@05swanbe I think you're right here, but even an accidental blow from the shark could be fatal, so it's best to evacuate the cage as soon as possible.

By the looks of it, there's a good chance this beauty is dead as well. In a world where we've lost roughly 90% of these magnificent predators, I wouldn't have expected Animal Planet to propagate the unjustified reputation these creatures have. People need to educate themselves before we lose sharks forever.

@ihategordonstoun those gaps were made for the camera. nowadays there are regulations on how big it may be - a shark doesn't fit in there anymore, at least not all of it :)
Exactly! I was there, and you are in no danger in the cage. They poke and nibble - one bit off a corner of the cage, but they are still only after the chunks we threw in the water, not us. Big gaps let us get great photos and touch the sharks, but the people outside the cage took more risk, and they felt safe as well. A well fed shark is a harmless shark.
He is not a camra man. it is a special water camera that is held by a rope from the boat. I use this camera when i go diving. so later i can enjoy watching myself in the water rather than hold a normal water camera and just watch some fish.
I love how everyone is saying there is a serious flaw with cage designs. Fact of the matter is, the majority of shark diving cages have this gap. It's there so divers can study the shark using particular equipment. It's VERY rare for a shark to come through that gap.

If you can't differentiate what was meant to be a horror-thriller from a real Great White Shark's behaviour and its way of life, that's your own fault.

Could be smaller, but it makes it harder for us floating in it to get a clear shot.. Buoyancy is not easy. We were all over the place trying to stay steady. The gap does not keep you from feeling safe. We lost a corner of the cage to a shark and still felt reasonably safe because that gap is where we could escape.I guess it's just a need to feel like you are interacting with them without bars that really completes the experience for some of us..

@FuryoftheFilmFan a film crew had filmed using that cage a couple of days earlier.. they had removed a couple of bars on the cage in order for their cameras to fit.. the dude hadn't put the bars back on the cage..he didn't think anything like this would ever happen. he was wrong.. after the two divers got out the cameraman filming these two divers cage dive was able to move the cage around and free the stuck shark.

For anybody who wants to know, one of the bars on the cage was removed for shark filming earlier. They never put it back, so it was just big enough for the shark to squeeze in. However, it was definitely not trying to attack, just trying to escape. Doesn't mean the divers might not have gotten nipped while the shark was thrashing. They're lucky they got out. Wonder what happened to the shark?

My thoughts: Just lay flat on the bottom of the cage, and there's no way the shark will kill you, even if it gets in the cage. It's too small to move around, sharks must be constantly swimming to survive, there's not enough room for the shark to "fight" for its food, etc.? I could be wrong.

@FuryoftheFilmFan a film crew had filmed using that cage a couple of days earlier.. they had removed a couple of bars on the cage in order for their cameras to fit.. the dude hadn't put the bars back on the cage..he didn't think anything like this would ever happen. he was wrong.. after the two divers got out the cameraman filming these two divers cage dive was able to move the cage around and free the stuck shark.

For anybody who wants to know, one of the bars on the cage was removed for shark filming earlier. They never put it back, so it was just big enough for the shark to squeeze in. However, it was definitely not trying to attack, just trying to escape. Doesn't mean the divers might not have gotten nipped while the shark was thrashing. They're lucky they got out. Wonder what happened to the shark?

My thoughts: Just lay flat on the bottom of the cage, and there's no way the shark will kill you, even if it gets in the cage. It's too small to move around, sharks must be constantly swimming to survive, there's not enough room for the shark to "fight" for its food, etc.? I could be wrong.
2:33, "just as the shark is coming in to take its first bite"?? Obviously its priority is freeing itself, I'm sure it doesn't even realize there are people inside. No need to demonize these animals....
