The Defiant with phase cloak, transphasic torpedoes, and the super ablative armor that Voyager had would have not only ended the war but mopped the floor with any ship in it's path!!!! It would have been like the Argo in Star Blazers with their wave motion gun!
@hondansx1000 No it's not the Enterprise-D. Honestly I forget the name of the ship, but it is from an earlier episode when the federation first entered the worm hole into (The Gama quadrant),...Dominion space.
I never got one thing.....the UFP has nukes(they could build them), probably some kind of super nuke enhanced with some kind of 24th century material...just fire a volley of nukes, and watch the explosions of the enemy ships.....
In fact, in one of the orginial series episodes Kirk's crew built a weapon that was equal to 10,000 cobalt bombs. They were trying to destroy a gaseous monster. Spock mentioned that it would tear away the planet's atmosphere and possibly destroy the Enterprise while it was in orbit. You would think they'd use all the resources at their disposal for a war of that magnitude! Then again, the Federation is a peaceful organization.
The defiant class is quite impressive despite being overpowered . I wonder why they did not incorporate the forward pulse phazers raray into the much larger Achilles class (combat oriented class) there is room for them. But they have a tiny pulse array on the Achilles class.
I'd love to have a defiant! cloaking device and all, then turn most of the quarters to a holodeck hahaha. i'll orbit the earth w/out being detected and beam where i choose to w/out a passport
@mlthomp1981 Enterprise E would win in the end but it would be bitter sweet as it would be badly damaged. No voyager could most certainly not, janeway ship was only written as tougher than it should have been. Did you see intrepid fight in the war, no as the only ones you saw where Frankenstein back together and put on permanent guard duty at ds9. The only real intrepid you saw that was not janeway ship was relegated to diplomatic duty like the one hat went to Romulus
The M-1 Abrams tank was initially named the Norris tank. The army, out of fear of Chuck Norris, renamed the tank and promised to make a weapon more fitting of his name. That weapon is the U.S.S. Defiant!
The last episode of DS9 was let down by the reuse of old footage during the battle scene. I understand why they did it, but it was a shame. The scene at the start of the battle where the Defiant at 4:43 is awesome! If they'd have done the rest of the battle with this spirit, it would've been more memorable I think.
Tough, but hardly indestructable. With the barrage of attacks against her, it's a wonder she survived intact up to the end, let alone bring Sisco and crew home safely.
What I didn't get was, unless the Dominion enhanced Cardassian technology, how they were such a match for the alliance when, in The Wounded, Captain Maxwell rolled all over them in a Nebula class ship.
@Squiglypig He knocked out several Galor as well when they were sent to police him. Of course, being able to read their transponder codes would have helped too I think.
@OneTrueEdge Well I also think that a Galor class ship would be like a cruiser (probably heavy) and not be evenly matched against a battleship (like the Galaxy and Nebula classes were).
I would have loved if they had a scene where the enemy ships saw the Defiant decloaking and say "We're boned...." (or the alien language equivilant). You know someone did at some point
About halfway through DS9 they turned off the shields on every ship and wired explosives to the hulls. It's the only way to explain them exploding like popcorn in every battle past that point.
@WUZLE Haha yeah I read that they did that because of various time and budget constraints, apparently shields are "expensive" to render since each one has to be custom made compared to explosions which are literally pasted on the footage
The episode where Garak and Odo escape Tain and the Defiant comes to the rescue reminded me of the admiral's little speech at the end. He had specifically ordered Sisko not to go on a rescue mission. After the mission and the admiral finds out, Sisko tells him there were no survivors and then this is the admiral's reaction and I am paraphrasing here "....but if you do something like that again I'm going to court-martial you....or I'll promote you. Either way you'll be in a lot of trouble."
you do rember how to fire phasors? tough little ship" little? worfs reaction was classic way to go riker annoy a klingon " If u where any other man id kill u where u stand"
@kellyberry it goes "tough little ship" "little?"(keep in mind the Defiant is adrift by that point)
after that Riker asks the phaser question and Worf says "if you were any other man i would kill you where you stand" to Picard at the end of the movie before he triggers the auto-destruct sequence.
@LauxRO If you're asking where all those scenes came from, it was in fact DS9. Well, except for the few shots with Riker, that was from First Contact. Deep Space Nine became one hell of a series starting with year three. The space battles were some of the best on TV or in the movies from ANY sci-fi series.
This little ship could win a battle with a large and powerful Negh'var class.I wonder what would happen if starfleet managed to build thousand of this "compact battleship" before the Dominion wars was start.
This is perhaps (to my opinion) one of the best DS9 battle mix scenes yet. Just one question, because I have forgotten about one of these scenes: When the Klingon Bird-of-Prays were attacking DS9, why was a Cardassian cruiser doing the same thing? I thought that the Klingons were attacking the Federation and the Cardies as well, at the same time.
@Ashenion22 It was the alternate universe defiant in the episode shattered mirror (DS9 4x20). So technically it doesn't belong in this battle compilation.
this reminds me of myself playing Starfox back in the day. a single small fightercraft taking down an entire fleet of enemy ships some of which are 100 times bigger than I am with twin plasma cannons and nova bombs.
The Sovereign class was co-constructed by Scotty. Soooo... made of win AND awesome-sauce!
But the Defiant had one drawback in "First Contact": no Picard who still could listen into the collective and find out where the cube's weakness was.
Otherwise the Enterprise would have been debris a few seconds later.
Defiant's plus-points are the overpowered warp-engine, the ablative armor, its size, the cloaking device, the weapons... c'mon: it was hit by a Borg beam and remained "adrift but salvageable"
@lexpro It's only weakness during the battle of Sector 001 was that the Sisko wasn't onboard. If we was then the film would only be about four minuets long, and thirty of those seconds would be spent blowing up the cube, the rest of the time would be him personally kicking every drone up the ass.
I typed way too fast, and my comment above haven't the meanning I was intending. Let me rephrase it:
"Star Trek photon torpedo warheads (antimatter) are supposed to be the mega-ultra-super explosions, and they are usually used with caution in the shows, specially during TOS and TNG. They are very powerfull and dungerous weapons.
DS9 producers treated those heavy weapons like they were bouncing bullets, with zero blast effect."
@Sage2000 well, they've fought a war and not some little skirmishes from the previous series, and if you fight a war you don't spare bulets. You shoot torpedos as soon as they are reloaded, simple like that and quartermaster makes sure you always got enought :)
Small, cheap to produce, and highly combat effective. Could probably build and crew 10 Defiants vs 1 Galaxy by comparison. I'd take a Defiant into a tough fight over any other Starfleet ship any day of the week, just make sure I have a full armoury.
@hipstermi The Defiant was a pure warship, its only purpose is combat which was something virtually unheard of in Starfleet. The Sovereign though highly advanced, its a multi-role ship much like many Starfleet vessels with exploration as it's primary purpose. Not to say that a Sovereign can't kick ass, it can do a lot more then that. But for pure dogfighting, I'd still put my money down on a Defiant.
@hipstermi Finish that quote "Not to say that the Sovereign can't kick ass..." The Sovereign class is a badass ship with lots of capabilities. Its hard to argue that the Sovereign can probably take down an attack wing of say B'rels or K'vorts while taking atmospheric scans of a gas giant but if combat is your main priority, a Defiant can probably take on the same odds with a lower cost risk. I can only imagine a small task force of Defiants supported by a Sovereign as a C&C ship...epic.
"if sisko was in this film it'd be over in about 5minutes due to the awesome."
I'm with you that Sisko is awesome, but the Defiant seemed way out gunned in the movie. Not only that, but Worf seems as capable comanding a ship so not sure what you would expect different.
and who knows...if Picard didnt develop that new power of still being plugged into the Borg he wouldnt have known where and how to hit the borg ship!
@AcomsRazor1776 The Defiant is the reincarnation of Chuck Norris. 50% of all enemy ships are destroyed just because Chuck Norris drops out of warp. Resisting Chuck Norris is futile. Those aren't quantum torpedos, it's Chuck Norris flying out of the tube at light speed, roundhouse kicking the Jem'Hadar ship, and flying back in time for the next pulse to do it again.
@finalfrontier1701 Chuck Norris once entered the wormhole with a couple of thousand of Dominion ships - there were no survivors. Eventually, the Dominion surrenders at Deep Space Nine after a box of VHS tapes containing Walker: Texas Ranger, are found by Changeling spies.
The Defiant is actually tiny, the smallest ship in the Federation besides a Runabout or the NX-01. The Defiant is about half the lengh of the Enterprise-D's Nacelles. No wonder she's quick and hard to hit, she's like a wasp.
@NANOFORGE ...no...there are some smaller ships running alongside the defiant at around 3:16-3:18 ..theyre not enemy ships, theyre mini starfleet ships..smaller than defiant
If Starfleet had about 100 of these stationed at strategic locations around the federation to supplement other operations they would do themselves a favor. :)
@ZuKahta Sorry, I want Picard when I want clever, unexpected Machiavellian diplomacy. I want The Sisko in a brawl. I'd take Kirk as well, especially against sentient machines. If Star Trek universe ever met Battlestar Galactica universe, Kirk's the one I'd want fighting the Cylons. As for Janeway, she'd be the one I'd want in a guerilla action, she managed to get that ship of fools home so she'd be good to lead an uprising of farmers and peasants. Archer's the one I'd want fighting unknowns.
@Jalfmar3 well if you take Picard you get Data and Worf, both of which surpass Sisko and Kirk. getting Sisko does get you worf but that's about it. Another advantage Picard has is that his ship is better than the Defiant and has less flaws present in Kirk's enterprise.
I almost forgot to think about the defiant's incredible speed and manueverability at sublight/impulse speeds. That is yet another of its advantages.
The only weakness that I can possibly see with the defiant is that it is not the fastest ship at warp speed. Technically, she has a top speed of warp 9.5. But I can't think of a time they ever pushed her beyond Warp 9.2 (maximum warp) due to fear of the ship blowing itself apart. She is fast for her size but slow next to other starships.
Yes the defiant is/was a great ship. Of course, starfleet has now built several of them. The federation's first purpose built warship was better than anything else its size in anyone else's fleet.
Of course, Phaser Cannons and Quantum torpedoes help. But so do high power shields and ablative armour. :)
Not according to several sources I've read, which have it's length down as 475.6 meters which makes it shorter than the 481.32 meter Klingon Vor'Cha Class, the Sovereign class is listed at 685 meters.
@ThotPran My mistake, I was using Jeff Russell's STARSHIP DIMENSIONS site to try and measure it by eye than actual length. Stil, a lot bigger than the Defiant though.
The Defiant with phase cloak, transphasic torpedoes, and the super ablative armor that Voyager had would have not only ended the war but mopped the floor with any ship in it's path!!!! It would have been like the Argo in Star Blazers with their wave motion gun!

@hipstermi if sisko was in this film it'd be over in about 5minutes due to the awesome.

@DarkKnightBob1o1 You never mess with The Sisko and the "Ben Sisko's mother F*cking Pimp hand." It messes with you.

Nicely done, RifleMan, my compliments.

I enjoy DS9 for many resons, including the coolness of the space battles and specially the Defiant but they kinda blew it somethimes...
I have when we see Defiant flying inside explosions (usually enemy vessel warp cores exploding) like it was nothing.
And torpedoes dont explode, they bounce like bullets.... would you fire torpedoes next to the space station you are protecting? LOL
Sage2000 1 year ago
Good vid. Yep, the Defiant is one little powerful, armor-plated bad ass.

1:10 First volley severely damages the Bird of Prey, two more volleys sends the Klingon crew to Sto-vo-kor. Awesome!

The defiant doesn't have armour, it has Chuck Norris patrolling the hull roadhouse-kicking enemy torpedos and disruptor blasts away!

its a shame that on ST: bridge commander km mod they made it so so crap!
Si1301 1 year ago
@Si1301 in fact why have defiant class starships been dumbed down to barely dangerous scout-vessels in videogames again?

@TOK150 just cause its small they make it weak! shame

It's about time starfleet invested in ships like this.

why is the fed and the klingons fighting in the first part then allied in the second, I remember them being allies by what happened?
ZTFreedom 1 year ago
@ZTFreedom The later seasons of Deep Space Nine went beyond what you saw on Star Trek - including a fight between the Klingons and the Federation.
archivesbc 1 year ago
@ZTFreedom There was a conspiracy by the dominion that temporarily put the kilingons and federation at war with each other
AcomsRazor1776 1 year ago
@AcomsRazor1776 ok, I never got into DS9 so I know nothing of the Dominion War.

The Defiant is the ninja of starships. 'Nuff said.
DarkCrecent 1 year ago 11
@DarkCrecent The Defiant is the Chuck Norris of Starships
AcomsRazor1776 1 year ago
@AcomsRazor1776 The Defiant is the reincarnation of Chuck Norris. 50% of all enemy ships are destroyed just because Chuck Norris drops out of warp. Resisting Chuck Norris is futile. Those aren't quantum torpedos, it's Chuck Norris flying out of the tube at light speed, roundhouse kicking the Jem'Hadar ship, and flying back in time for the next pulse to do it again.
finalfrontier1701 1 year ago 2
@finalfrontier1701 Chuck Norris once entered the wormhole with a couple of thousand of Dominion ships - there were no survivors. Eventually, the Dominion surrenders at Deep Space Nine after a box of VHS tapes containing Walker: Texas Ranger, are found by Changeling spies.

Damm if they wanted to name a Defiant after an animal my vote goes to "Badger Class " She punches way above her weight .

The Defiant is actually tiny, the smallest ship in the Federation besides a Runabout or the NX-01. The Defiant is about half the lengh of the Enterprise-D's Nacelles. No wonder she's quick and hard to hit, she's like a wasp.
NANOFORGE 1 year ago 5
@NANOFORGE ...no...there are some smaller ships running alongside the defiant at around 3:16-3:18 ..theyre not enemy ships, theyre mini starfleet ships..smaller than defiant

If Starfleet had about 100 of these stationed at strategic locations around the federation to supplement other operations they would do themselves a favor. :)
jkeelsnc 2 years ago 2
100 defiants, can be made. But then, what;s also important is to have 100 Siskos, commanding them....!!!
yp06407012 1 year ago 19
@yp06407012
Clone 99 of them and do your best to keep them from knowing it. The Federation does have Cloning Tech (Canon)
karkkosvolfe 1 year ago
@yp06407012 or just one Picard
ZuKahta 1 year ago
@ZuKahta Sorry, I want Picard when I want clever, unexpected Machiavellian diplomacy. I want The Sisko in a brawl. I'd take Kirk as well, especially against sentient machines. If Star Trek universe ever met Battlestar Galactica universe, Kirk's the one I'd want fighting the Cylons. As for Janeway, she'd be the one I'd want in a guerilla action, she managed to get that ship of fools home so she'd be good to lead an uprising of farmers and peasants. Archer's the one I'd want fighting unknowns.
Jalfmar3 10 months ago
@Jalfmar3 well if you take Picard you get Data and Worf, both of which surpass Sisko and Kirk. getting Sisko does get you worf but that's about it. Another advantage Picard has is that his ship is better than the Defiant and has less flaws present in Kirk's enterprise.

@yp06407012
I am sure someone can find a solution to that.... ;)
karkkosvolfe 11 months ago
I almost forgot to think about the defiant's incredible speed and manueverability at sublight/impulse speeds. That is yet another of its advantages.
The only weakness that I can possibly see with the defiant is that it is not the fastest ship at warp speed. Technically, she has a top speed of warp 9.5. But I can't think of a time they ever pushed her beyond Warp 9.2 (maximum warp) due to fear of the ship blowing itself apart. She is fast for her size but slow next to other starships.
jkeelsnc 2 years ago
Yes the defiant is/was a great ship. Of course, starfleet has now built several of them. The federation's first purpose built warship was better than anything else its size in anyone else's fleet.
Of course, Phaser Cannons and Quantum torpedoes help. But so do high power shields and ablative armour. :)
jkeelsnc 2 years ago
@jkeelsnc I think in the long run they're meant to cover the larger federation warships, one of the first being the Promethius class.

i`m amazed no one has ever done a defiant vs a whitestar video, big star trek fan but the whitestar does also hold a impressive shit kicker record.
thanqualhighseer 2 years ago 3
@thanqualhighseer
There's one reason for it, in terms of scale the White Star is about the same size and length as the Enterprise E.
Tseuhadon 2 years ago
Not according to several sources I've read, which have it's length down as 475.6 meters which makes it shorter than the 481.32 meter Klingon Vor'Cha Class, the Sovereign class is listed at 685 meters.
ThotPran 2 years ago
@ThotPran My mistake, I was using Jeff Russell's STARSHIP DIMENSIONS site to try and measure it by eye than actual length. Stil, a lot bigger than the Defiant though.

No Star Wars here! No Flaming either! Keep Star Wars and Star Trek separated please. I dont wonna start blocking anyone.
Thanks you.
