@Gemma8121985 Com'è vero! Allora vevo 17 anni e ci bastava poco per sognare. Questo disco mi ricorda una mia compagna di scuola che mi piaceva tanto e che non mai più rivisto.
this was one of the "oldies" I heard on the radio that I had to have I didn't start buying 45s until 1962 when I was 12 in NY I took an express train into NY and then the subway to Bleeker Street in the village where the "House of Oldies" was later there was a second store on Bleeker and there was a record store in the subway station at 6th ave and 42nd st. they all had huge selections of "oldies" (but I think there's even more available on Youtube) I did find "That's all right Now Mama" on Sun
i love this song. i was in jr. hi school when it came out. guess that dates me. my husband who is a musician{now teaches music and is chair of the fine arts department at st. phillip's college}backed the diamonds, coasters, shirelles, and he played with edgar winter, roy head and others. we both thank you for posting!
The other version was recorded by the Diamonds shortly after this one was and the vocal quality is much better, and I have heard both on the versions on the radio.
When I was a kid and this was a hit song, I never saw this group perform it. I only heard it on the radio. I assumed they were a group of black singers. I was very surprised to find out after I reached adult age that this was a group of white singers. Black or white, doesn't matter to me, I still really enjoy this song.
@mortygwhiz That's probably because the recording is a cover (remake) version of the same song recorded by a black doo wop group called the Gladiolas. Ironically, the Gladiola's recording (found on YouTube) sounds less 'ethnic'
I love the 50s and I wish I too was born in that era. To have experienced it must have been great. Bring back the 50s music & fashion for a calmer world
"vwestlife" - I agree with you. This is a fun and creative song, took alot of creativity ! Thanks; and a nice job here ! The Best ... from Seattle : )
yeam for sure on that my dad loves records an to be honest its so much better to listen to some oldies on viynl then on cd it sounds so much better not made to be so clear an bright you can hear a pin drop like a cd
For forty years I've heard this song and had not realized that the singers were white until about 10 years ago when I saw them on a PBS special. Always liked the song.
I'm from Ontario. When I was 7 or 8, my parents had a 78 recording of this song. My mom told me that when it was first released and listeners heard the lead-in to it, they thought the guys singing it had flipped because it had such a different sound than what "staid Canadians" were used to hearing. Lucky for us!
Yes, it was a wonderful time to be young. However, we also had some problems, an unpopular war (some things never change)and racial divisiveness (still). Overall, I'm grateful that I can look back with fond memories of my childhood. Hopefully dear, you will too.
What a HOOT! I won a copy of this from American Bandstand by sending in something (can't remember - old age!). My first 45 and the probably the one I will always cherish. Thanks so much for posting this song!!!!
The Gladiolas did this song first but The Diamonds version was rushed out and became the hit. The original was writen and sung by Maurice Williams who later on had a hit called Stay, later covered by The 4 Seasons.
I am 65 and I was 10 when this song knocked my socks off...it still does...!!
