I'm sure if he got pissed off he could scramble, and fight and wrestle like anyone else. Who knows how I can hide these comments? I try to avoid them but i'm like a moth drawn to lantern.
i compare watching eddie bravo on the ground to watching ali throw combo in the sweet science.. u have to be mesmerized.. ima a striker & wouldnt even try doin this but u have to appr it
@theiommi You weren't freaking out when Mike Lullo went through the rubber guard steps and damn near secured a gogoplata in the UFC? I guess you're a better fan than me, not being entertained by that.
@pearcemark2 I don't mean boring by the finishes, cause bjj isn't only a submission game... Boring, in terms of stalling the action for 5 minutes, without scoring any points... I'm not saying the system is shit, (I practiced it a bit, I have a blue belt from 10th planet), I'm just saying it makes boring fights, as the 50/50 guard does for gi matches...
@theiommi Quit being passive aggressive, that's a woman's quality. "No don't get me wrong, I love that boring system for gay faggots." Just say you're not a fan.
I completely disagree about it beig boring. You know what's boring to me? When I watch MMA and time after time, these high level BJJ black belts lay in guard getting elbowed for 15 minutes, not doing shit to be offensive. They lay there and make their art look shitty.
I'd take 15 minutes of working rubber guard any day over that.
@pearcemark2 First; ''stop being passive, aggressive'' thumbs up for the joke but bjj wise, it's more than an advantage, it's a requirement, bjj is all about timing and reaction.
Second: why do you guys always talk about fucking MMA when I talk about BJJ?!?! It's not the same, I know you like it in MMA, cause it's new and fresh, but IN BJJ, it makes BORING fights, cause people stick to it for the whole fight without doing other stuff, cause they don't know the basics (there's few exeptions)
Naoya wasn't rolling 100 percent but it was a good match nontheless. I'd like to see Eddie go up against some of the trickier Japanese grapplers though like Imanari or Kitaoka.
I must also say that Eddie's game is very subjective. In other words, not everyone has the physical qualities to pull off his moves nor can they gain those physical qualities.
holy fuck...this entire match....it makes me think back to what eddie thought about the whole tenth planet thing.....what if there was an alien race that had some mad jiujitsu skills....far advanced from us....eddie and that guy was like straight evolving their game on the spot to roll with eachother....fuckin sick!
your not tight enough if your getting passed. and even if they do pass, if done right they fall directly into an omoplata. you must squeeze your legs together the whole time, and ensure their elbow is on the mat. and make sure to squeeze your kneee to your head with your arm, they shouldnt be able to move, let alone pass, and if they manage to sneek out the back, just sitting up will throw on an omo.
thanks, but I have question if you have the answer. Okay I know the basics of rubber guard, I get that you have to hug the knee of the leg you pull up and all that but what should you be doing with your other leg? Mine, usually just hangs out in the breeze and does nothing, I'll just plant it on their thigh or something, but I never really see anything I can use it for.
@AudienceKiller66 It should be on the guy's hip. If he backs out of your R.Guard, put it around his back and leg curl to stop him from backing out. if he stacks you you can stick a butterfly hook in with that other leg and mess with his base. When you go for the omoplata (transitioning into the Jiu Claw) it pushes on the guy's hip as you do the Kung fu move.
@Lahed92801 You know your stuff! In addition if you have the flexibility needed you can explore double bagger control and it's options. Happy rolling my friend!
Sort of like half guard, with your opponent standing and you sitting. It's hard to describe. It's usually a transition into de la riva or to the back from what I understand.
Maybe a better grappler than I can describe it better.
It's basically when you have a half guard at your opponent at the calf instead of the leg. It prevents the guy from advancing and hopefully allows you to transition fully into the half guard. It's the weakest of all guards and you can't do much from it except stall or try and advance to something better.
that electric chair at 4:35 was SICK.... I nail ppl with that shiet constantly.... And the invisible collar was equally disgustingly effective. I love how he transferred his hand over to make it even tighter.....
It's an air choke. You see he has the wind pipe of the Japanese dude pretty just below his should muscle on his bicep. He grabs his left forearm with his right hand and just steadily applies pressure on the other guys throat until he can't breathe anymore. At least that's what I saw. I could be wrong.
Air chokes are really hard to do and thus seldom seen because most maneuvers for blood chokes (such as a rear naked) are easier to do and yield quicker results.
That's exactly what it is, Apollo is just a name for that particular arm triangle. There's a set-up in JJ unleashed where you're reaching around your own head in an S-grip which is why it's called the Apollo
I plan on visiting the school the first day I learned the rubber guard on UTube LOL I submitted twice a blue belt and I am a white belt only studying for one month and half. It works!!!
that last choke, the arm triangle, can u do that from normal half guard? cuz it looks like uematsu's free leg got crossed over his body and ended up on the same side as the trapped leg, which may have made the triangle easier to get, although i'm not really sure, that might be a normal half guard, i can't ell from the vid, has any body gotten this technique?
wow, his guard is really impressive to see in action. one of the problems with it, i think, is that it's a guard that may take a toll on your knees in the long run. knees just arn't supposed to bend like that and add in that you are also grappling with someone who is struggling and the chance for injury seems to be high. i wonder what eddie would have to say about that?
A lot of people make this comment about the rubber guard. Having a degree in anatomy and bio mechanics and having been using rubber guard moves for 2 years I feel I can give a honest opinion. The knee actually takes very little of the stress in the mission control position. Its in actual fact the hips that require the most flexibility esp external rotation of the hip. provided the flexibility rubber guard should be perfectly safe the real problem is when people try it without flexibility
ah thanks for you input. i can see what your saying. without that hip flexibility you're putting more torque on the knee. that's the one thing i don't like about bjj. hardly any schools do any stretching of any kind. around where i live anyway. always thought that was strange.
yeah totally agree some people just dont have the level of flexibility for this game. I must say I dont see that much scientific stretching done in bjj schools. The great thing about bjj is that if flexibility isnt ur gift then there are other games that u can use garcias no gi guard game is great but dosent need as much flexibility as the ruber guard game.
You should have enough discipline to stretch on your own...same with physical fitness...I pay my instructor to teach me jiu jitsu, not how to stretch or eat right.
Doesn't hurt my knees at all. My instructor keeps saying you need to be super flexible, but i'm not even that flexible and I can play rubber guard fairly easily.
If you don't like it, don't use it. Same with X-guard, De la Riva guard, etc. Hell if i roll with fat guys sometimes i can't even get closed guard. Does that mean closed guard doesn't work?
If you look closer you will notice that his forearm is against Uematsu's neck. So he tapped from the pressure from Eddie's right leg and right forearm. Tis a choke.
It's called the "invisible collar." Eddie's forearm is wedged into his neck and collarbone. It's kind of like a pain compliance move. It's not like a choke where if the guy doesn't tap he's out. Sometimes it doesn't work, and some guys just won't tap to it. If you read his book, he says he'll try it, and if the guy won't tap he'll move on to something else.

his rubber guard stuff is great but I think his haf guard is really on another level. So much confidence whihaning on t1 leg from the bottom that is awesome
I really think his ideas in both areas are breakthrough. You see his half guard game in "The Twister" DVD, but I've never seen him doing rubber guard in competition. However, the guys who are doing rubber guard and who do it well get extreme results with it. Anyone who rolls with Eddie, and I'm fortunate to have been in that group, will feel the danger they are in when the rubber guard comes up and you begin to feel trapped with chains of submissions imminent.
Anybody would get "tooled" by Vieira!! The guy is a Machado Black Belt first of all so yes he's very good on that alone. Secondly, he has introduced some solid shit into the Jiu Jitsu world. I can't do any of it but it's still sweet.
There are alot of top level guys around who respect and listen to Bravo. There are some who don't but there are alot who do. To say that he's crap because he got beat by Viera is pretty narrow minded. That's like saying that Sakuraba is no good because he can't beat Silva. We give props to guys who've not done as much as Bravo has. I don't understand why everyone disses him so much.
never said he was crap but not as good as his arrogant mouth lets on to be.Had he still stayed on the world circuit after beating royler he'd have more respect for his grappling.Personality is very irritating and loudmouth and that alienates a lot of people.
Dude, have you attended one of his seminars? Have you trained at his gym in Cali? Have you read his Rubber and Twister books? Have you talked to him in person?
