  • i have a 2007 honda accord with a 166-hp engine that is as fast as this car. actually, it is rated at 0-60 8 seconds with an automatic, but mine will do it in 7 to seconds without ever even getting the rpm's up over 5000.

  • @sticher314 If you can truly hit 0-60 in 7 seconds flat with an unmodified automatic 4-cyl Accord, you should post a video of it because that would be record-setting. The 328i per the magazines runs a bit faster than I accomplished in this video, so suffice to say the average 328i would mop the floor with the average 4-cylinder Accord. I've driven a 2004 Accord 4-cyl auto (and a 2003 manual) and can assure you it feels much slower than the 328i.

  • @Threxx yes I will agree that German engineered BMWs definitely have better handling than my fusion im just saying I think people should go big or go home when it comes to luxery cars. I meen why would BMW make a 1 series...that is a joke.

  • @Mrjack45241 u sir are uneducated in bmw. The 135i is super fast and handles amazing. I used to agree with you about 3 series owners but then learning the 325i, 328i 330i and 335i all use the 3.0 inline motor and have 215,225,255,300 hp respectively. I would rather have a loaded sport package 06' 330i or 335i compared to any 5 or 7 for 20g's. The 5 and 7 series are a dime/dozen and are not so much sports cars as they are v8 beasts. I do like the idea of a 550i 6spd manual tho :)

  • @Threxx if you are I driving enthusiast you shoulf get the M series BMWs because they are designed for speed. And ive done a 0 to 60 in 6.4 in my fusion.

  • @Mrjack45241 Maybe because the 335i is fast enough? In most comparison tests the 335i was just as capable as the previous generation M3, if if you were happy with the M3's performance a few years earlier, you'd be happy with the 335i today. My 335i stickered at 48k.. a comparable new M3 would have cost around 67k. Too much.

Your Fusion's 0-60 is faster than most all magazine tests. I'm sure people have gotten 328is to go faster than my test here, too. Don't forget handling - 328i wins easy

  • The 3 series BMW's are for made for people who dont have any money but want a status symbol so they can say the drive a BMW when that car is only 20 grand used...my '10 ford fusion will dust that 328i and it is 20 grand also.. Dont get my wrong I LOVE BMWs but if you have money you get the 5 series and 7 series fully loaded.

  • @Mrjack45241 If you are a driving enthusiast, why would you want the larger and heavier 5 or 7 series? The 3 series is FAR more fun to drive, and if you get the 335i (like I used to have), it'll smoke most cars in any form of race, especially your Fusion.

Aside from that I honestly think a 328i and a V6 Fusion would be a pretty good/even race in a straight line, and would hands-down favor the 328i on road course. Edmunds shows the 2010 Fusion V6 getting to 60 in 7.3 seconds.

  • @Mrjack45241 your a dumbass. yeah you can get a bmw 3 series for 20 grand... a 2006 or 7 with 75k miles!

  • My parents are buying me this car for my 16th birthday. Do you have any idea what the 0-60 would be?

    Thanks

  • It sounds like shit.It can't compare with sound of diesels.

  • @RaoulEmilian i agree i like the sound of my 325Ci much better

  • @legoman844 youll toast it trust me. i have a 328i. if you have the option to get a 335i, youll be toasting mustang gts.

  • @3flipmafia Not the 5.0. But the 335i is a wonderfull complete package.

  • Cars slow over 100.

  • once u put it in DS does it shift itself? and to put it in DS u just move it left from D right?

  • @kayu38 Yeah, both D and DS shift themselves. DS just shifts at higher RPM, tends to hold lower gears without upshifting (especially in corners), shifts more firmly (snappier), and at least in my 335i (I didn't notice it in this 328i) it seems to leave the torque converter locked up at all times except when you first launch the car, so you get more of a 'direct' manual transmission feel to the revs vs your gear/speed.

Also DS will hold your manual gear selections indefinitely whereas D won't.

  • sounds identical to a v6 honda

  • I would prefer a manual more.

  • From the split second the revs increase im getting 6.5 sec, and if i time from when i hear the tires screech (when the car is actually started moving) im getting 6.2 sec. How did you time over 7 sec?

  • threxx, great video!! :D Also, that 2nd gear sounds awesome!! Personally, the sound of the engine in the 328i sounds better then the engine in the 335i, but not the M3, of course, because it's a V8.

  • @LazBro123 But i have to say, the 335i has an amazing engine sound too. It's just the gear change of the 328i is nice.

  • shave a couple of tenths off of the 7.05 high sixes

  • boo automatic

  • 7.05 is a bit slow. I've gotten 6.6 to 6.8 (5 different runs). That's with an A/T in DS mode, DTC off

  • i got 0-60 in about 7.5 seconds

  • dis looks like its slower den a acura integra type r stok.

  • And how do you turn the Traction and Stability control off?

  • Push the button with the 'caution' looking red triangle. It's toward the upper part of the center of the dash. That turns off stability control. Then to disable traction control you need to push and hold the button down for somewhere around 5 seconds. You'll know when you've turned off traction control because it puts up a big warning on the info center. You can let go then.

  • Is it the DTC button? or the hazard light button? I have 3 buttons up there. The hazard light button, lock/unlock doors button, and DTC button.

  • Yeah sorry I turned my 335i back in a few months ago so I forgot. I meant to say the DTC button. Though the warning that comes up on the info center kinda looks like the hazard light (that's why I got it mixed up). Just hold DTC for a few seconds and you'll know when more than just stability control has turned off.

  • alright sweet. thanks.

  • DS? Why don't you shift it yourself? I have the 07 model and once you move it over to the left from D you move it back and forth to change gears. Or did you have paddle shifters?

  • My experience with my 335i was that the DS mode resulted in a better overall time than my manual shifting w/ the paddle shifters. Reason being that the car knows the ideal shift points for each gear at wide open throttle (Which are not always necessarily at redline). So that's why I chose to do that in this 328i I had. Another reason is that I was holding the video camera while driving... I didn't have a spare hand to shift with, especially since this car didn't have the paddle shifter opt.

  • Oh, didn't know that. Haven't had mine long enough to notice any differences. But that's acceptable.

  • @IconRiderZX6R I have a G-Timer and my 0-60 is .5 seconds shorter letting it shift for me in sport mode as opposed to shifting myself.

  • The 328i is pretty quick especially equipped with a PBX, peformance exhaust, some suspension work, and a AFE intake.. That's the current setup on my E90 and at this point it hauls ass and no longer has that damn throttle lag.

  • @Delta0311 Is there a need to install a Sprint Booster when we can get a pbx for similar price? I 'm having a Sprint booster but not a pbx, feel like I 've waste my 300 bucks on it since I be getting a pbx in the future anyway.

  • this is 0-60 in 6.35 sec. How are you timing 7.05?!?

  • Before I even uploaded it to youtube I did a frame by frame analysis in Adobe Premier Pro starting from the split second the speedo moved from 0 to the split second it hit 60... Premier told me that the clip was 7.05 seconds long.

  • Comment removed

  • about 7seconds to 60

  • 7 Seconds... Not bad! Remember people this car was not ment to be fast, I am sure they could have made it a lot faster, but then that would make the 335i look slow.

  • all bmws are sport luxury cars

they are all meant to be fast

  • The 335 will never look slow.

  • The 335i does 0-60 in low 5s. The 328i should be in the 6s to be competitive. The 3 series is the same size car as a Civic ... Not the same class, but a Civic Si is a 4 cyl n/a car for just over half the money that runs 6.3

  • People who shop 3 series will not cross shop a civic. I am sure 0-60 means less to a BMW owner than a Civic owner. (0-60 is a benchmark, but it is not the whole picture)

  • @kensai69 I know, I was comparing it to a cheaper car for technical comparison.

  • @kensai69

I think you meant to say that 0-60 means less to BMW 328 owners than is does to civic SI owners. People who spring for sportier versions of a car tend to care more about performance I would assume.

  • The 328i I drove in this video is an automatic. The Civic Si only comes with a manual. I think the 328i manual is quicker, not to mention you're comparing my non professional driving to what's probably a more professional driver in a civic Si.

The Civic Si severely lacks in torque, which means you have to rev it up a ton to get any satisfying power at all. It also barely gets better mileage than the 328i. The 328i is also far more luxurious in all ways. It's really apples to oranges.

  • @Threxx I realize the differences. I drive a Si and I'm probably going to get my wife a 328i Xdrive automatic next year. I was just under the impression that even with automatic, the 328i should run 0-60 in well under 7 seconds - it's a small car with a 230ish HP engine and plenty of torque.

  • but a 3 series is rwd not fwd like the civic. tthats a big enough reason to get a 3 series. but the si is a good fwd car.

  • A Civic Si to a 328i? Really now?? And who cares about 0-60 time, bro? Sure Civic Si will beat it from 0-60, but what does it prove? Nothing. Yes, nothing. Because once Si hits 80mph, the 328i will pass it without even trying. Have you ever realized why the Si is fast 0-60 but doesn't mention 1/4 time? Its not geared for racing past 90mph. Don't believe me? Drive one and see for yourself

  • @nabizzle123 I do drive one. I'm also thinking of buying the 328i for my wife. All I was saying was a car with as much HP and torque as the 328, and only a moderate increase in weight, should do 0-60 in well under 7 seconds. I think I was right all along, because after looking into it I've seen reports of manual models doing it in 6 flat. By the way, Si 1/4 is 14.8 @ 94 according to Motor Trend

  • I see your point, but "moderate increase" in weight is an understatement. The Civic Si weighs 2895lbs while the 328i weighs 3428lbs. That's about a 600lb weight difference, which is a BIG difference. Also, there was a video I saw right now that showed a 328i doing 0-60 in 6.7 secs according to the owner of the video...so the 328 CAN DO 0-60 in under 7 secs

  • @nabizzle123 wow I thought it weighed 3200 but a quick google shows you're right. 0-60 in 6.7 sounds reasonably good, though. 7+ would be a bit sad.

  • haha yea dude...sorry to keep bothering you, but I had to prove my point

  • @nabizzle123 Hah no worries. Most YouTube discussions are a LOT more bothering :) I actually came away from this one a tiny bit smarter...

  • @JordsterMovies hahaha glad i could help :)

  • thats pretty sad...ya know the guy with the 530 below? i think even the old e28 535 i had could hang with this thing...this car is a pig now....needs the Jared diet and lose 500 lbs

  • That was pretty slow.

  • Its not an incredibly fast car. Less than 300 hp.

  • Wow, the 2008 models have a lot better transmission than my 07'

Or maybe i just suck at shifting? lol

  • its an automatic

  • He has it in DS mode...automatic sport.

  • i got a 2003 320i. getting this or a 335i soon.

  • i hope that wasnt a coupe because ~7sec is terrible, my '94 530i does that and its 15 years old.

i finally drove the 335i coupe and it's the first good non M 3-series that BMW has made, i'm sure you love it

  • It was a sedan... but the sedan and coupe 328i have virtually identical acceleration numbers since they weigh within about 50 pounds of each other.

Your 530i only had 11 fewer horsepower than this car, plus more torque, and a similar curb weight since the 3 series has gained quite a bit in the last 15 years... so it's not surprising that my non professional impromptu time of the slowest 3 series currently made is about the same as your 94 530i V8.

The 335i is definitely a blast, though.

  • Haha I wasn't trying to be mean, but that was exactly my point; similar power and weight 15 years later, I would hope they deliver power to the ground a bit better! I realize that a base 3 and a 5 shouldn't really be compared but I have just always had a problem with cheap 3s i guess. I applaud you for getting a real 3 series!

  • I totally agree with your statement. Just would hope 15 years later that they would get it together.

  • 2008-1994= 14 years lol and an E36 M3 can blow the doors off of your 530i and the 1995 is 13 years old so age is nothing but a number by the way 15 years 15 years 15 years 15 years 15 years 15 years 15 years 15 years

  • Congrats, you can add! The '93 535i would satisfy your "math," and it's a bit faster than my v8. I said non M line for a reason, I could easily dinan out an e34 and it could hang with an e36 m3 for the same price so don't play that card.

like i said these cars shouldn't be compared as they target two completely different buyers, but my point still stands: 7sec is slow for ANY new 6cyl bmw

  • lol wtf?

  • ambienflier I keep seeing you trash talk BMW on all kinds of videos. BMW's are great cars if not the best, find a better way to manage your time.

  • ok u guys, im probably gonna get dissed for this but which do u think is better for a good car that will save me money in the long run honda accord coupe v6 or da 328i sedan i love i mean love the coupe but i think its a bit much but the accord is that that bad looking plus much more power and faster times. So please just reply back. Thanks.

  • If you are going to buy the car instead of lease, and keep it long enough that the manufacturer's warranty goes out, then definitely go with another car like the Accord, TSX, TL, G37, Altima or even the new 2010 Fusion. The 328i is just a time bomb waiting to destroy your wallet with out of warranty repairs. My 335i has had so many problems I can't even begin to remember them all. It's still under warranty but I just gave up bringing it to the dealer. The lease is up in 4 months anyway.

  • hey man thanks i really apprieate it i really wanted the bmw but now i look at it he honda is a better deal. THANKS. and if u u dont mind me asking how much did u pay for your car and how much for repairs?

  • My 07 335i had a 47k sticker... IIRC I paid around 43k for it after negotiations, but it was also a lease. BMW has very good lease rates. It's due back in only a few more months so even though it has required a lot of repairs, they haven't cost me anything. I can't imagine what they'd have cost if I was out of warranty but fortunately I'll never have to find out.

  • If you're looking for the long run, DO NOT buy any bmw. They are great cars...until the warranty runs out.

  • I drive a 318ti with over 210,000 miles,its a great car.

  • haha nice i got a 2009 328i coupe loaner once..it was pretty quick well too me. i raced all friends and raped them haha. went about 120 in it.

  • ive gone almost 120 in my 1986 325e

  • which do u guys think is better 328i sedan or coupe, i was debating on this for such a long time i wanted xenon headlight with all the extra luxury features that the coupe offers like the extra speakers and other things

  • The upgraded 13-speaker logic 7 system is an available option on both the 328i sedan and coupe. No difference there. Xenon headlights are standard on the coupe (which costs more) but still optional on the sedan. I have an 07 335i sedan which came standard with both features and they're two features I actually do appreciate. Many others on the car that I paid for go unused. The coupe and sedan handle and accelerate almost identically, FWIW. Sedan is more practical, coupe looks better.

  • def the coupe....aside from all those other features it just LOOKS better and feels better to drive

not that the sedan is bad, i just happen to favor the coupe

  • it all depends if you want people in yr car..if u dnt mind taking like 3 other ppl. then sedan is for you..if you want a more sporty look and less passengers. then coupe..i'd prefer coupe

  • try again. Based on my frame by frame its 6.93 to 60

  • What are you using for a frame by frame analysis? Youtube's play/pause button and a stop watch?:p

I used the original video before it was uploaded to youtube and Adobe Premier's frame by frame movement at 30 fps... subtracted the start time from the end time and got 7.05, which is close enough to 6.93 to believe that the difference is an opinion of when I started accelerating, when I hit 60, or you not having access to a true frame by frame like I did.

  • I used quicktime pro! I started when the mph needle moves from resting point until it is directly centered on the 60 mark.

  • To bmw 328i owners:

    Try this:

-put it in "DS" mode, hit the gas all the way down with the click.

-The SECOND time it revs up, dont allow it to hit 7000 rpm. let up on the gas real quick at 5000- 6000 rpm and smack it down real quick.

Thank me when u try this.

  • haha i love how fast the fuel economy gauge drops

  • not bad for a auto.

trust me, manual 328 is a very different car

  • you mean to tell me its slower in a straight line than a pathfinder v8? there are buicks faster than this, its a nice car no doubt but its slow

  • With a 7 second zero to 60, there are a lot of cars that are faster than this, but that's what the 335i is there for. By the way, I did a search on pathfinder V8 0-60 times and most of them were about the same as I ran. Yes there were a few that were just a tad faster, but my time in this video isn't exactly the best published 328i time either. I'll keep it in mind though next time I'm in a BMW loaner car and pulled up next to a pathfinder V8. lol

  • 328i gets 6.1 secs i think for 0-60

  • Maybe with a manual. This was an automatic. I was going just slightly uphill and I'm sure I could have driven it a little better but there's no way there's another .95 seconds I could shave off that car's time to 60.

  • the bmw x5 4.8is does 0-60 in about 6 seconds and the x5m and x6m do it in 4.5 seconds so whats your point this is among the slowest and cheapest bmws... the nissan engine is like twice as big. By the way the pathfinder would never keep up after 60

  • no a x5 4.8 can do it in 7 flat not to mention its useless off road which defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place, and if u want a useless go fast suv u can have your self an fx50.

  • Put in a cold air intake, peformace exaust, and tune the car (yes the 328i can be flashed) and this E90 will smoke most cars out there.

  • im sorry to say but this car is not fast for having what it has

  • I'm sorry to inform you that you've lost your mind.

  • I love people like you...your bullshit gives me a great laugh haha.

  • what a tard, i get 2.5 cuz i know exactly when the vtec kicks in.

  • M52 I6 = German Excellence

  • this is an '08 so its an N52 (or N51) depending on ULEV or SULEV

  • @MetalicB0x it's n52

  • how does this compare in speed handling and over all quality to a 2004 bmw e46 330i zhp performance package?

  • Its funny that this is an 2008, I drive an 1999 328is (e36) stock, and its honestly just as fast.

Ive got a 0 - 60 video of it on my page, keep in mind it starts at 2secs.

I think its just that BMW have pretty much kept to the basics on the M52 engine. perfect engineering.

  • 328i was the highest end of the regular (non M) 3 series back then, though, right?

IT had 190 horsepower and a 3200 pound curb weight.

The 2008 328i is the low end of the spectrum for the 3-series, has 230 horsepower and weighs 3400 pounds

I could see how they'd be similar in performance... the current one has 40 more horsepower but weighs 200 pounds more. I'd still expect it to be faster, especially in automatic form (6-speed auto vs 4-speed), but I bet it'd be pretty close.

  • ha everything you said is pretty much dead on, yea correct, i'm impressed ha

  • I say its quite impressive for a ladies car........

  • A ladies car?

  • yea the men get the 335i with the turbo...lol

  • I prefer the 335i, but i'd take either one.

  • lol, theyre both nice...but we all know that the turbo is fast fast fast...

  • hell yeah, the turbo does 0-60 in under 5 seconds!

  • Yes, the dealer gave me the ladies car while they fixed my man's car. I still have yet to get a good video of my 335i for a comparison run but I swear I will very soon.

  • i own this car and i love it :) i dont care that its not the fastest thing around.

  • Right. Thats still only one step you take.

I oringinaly included a little message on my comment of u doing that, but had to shorten it.

(you'll notice, thats why my comment is divided into 3 posts. (500word limit)

  • I've beaten the

    08' e350 (268bhp)

    04' clk320 and e320

    08 accord (268bhp)

The 328 will impress you, just as long as you know how to bring out the beast! ;)

  • But heres the trick,

-rev up the rpms to '2' where the wheels dont begin to spin.

-let go of the brakes while hitting the gas all the way.

-once you hear the engine noise more, and see that the car isnt accelerating as it did at about 30mph,let go of the gas quickly and slam the pedal to the metal. (until you feel that click)

-BOOM! You'll get your 0-60 time 1 sec quicker.

  • You're talking about brake torquing (loading up the torque converter) which I did in this film, albeit very quickly.

You'll notice that the revs jump up for a fraction of a second without any tire squeal or movement from the speedo... that's because I was on the brake. I would have been more deliberate with the brake torquing (and possibly gotten a better time as a result) but I had cars coming up behind me so I didn't want to be out there at a complete stop any longer than I had to be. :D

  • Buddy listen, I've been driving this car every day for the past 6 months.

What you should do is not place the 328i into 'DS'mode. Just leave it alone in 'D' mode.

  • Sorry dude, but if you think the Taurus has anything on the N52, that's a problem.

BMW's usually conservative with their 0-60 times, like with the 335i. They say it does 0-60 in ~5.3 seconds, when in reality it's closer to 4.8 seconds.

  • I wasn't quoting BMW's 0-60 time, I was quoting the time I ran in this video... 7.05 seconds, which is slower than the 6.5 seconds Ford says the 263hp Taurus will do it in. BMW quotes the 328i at 6.9 seconds so I was just off of that (might be explainable by the fact that I was going up a very slight incline). Yes BMW quotes their times as 'normal' rather than 'absolute best case scenario'. I own a 335i and doubt I could ever manage a sub 5 second run, but I'll try (and make a video!)

  • i thought BMW 's were fast its slower than a ford taurus

  • Why would you assume a car is fast based on its brand? The 128i, 328i, and 528i are cars that I wouldn't describe as slow, but definitely wouldn't call them fast, either.

The new 3.5L V6 263 horsepower Taurus out today runs (according to Ford) 0-60 in 6.5 seconds... so yes it would be faster than the times I got in this car. I wouldn't so much say that's a knock on BMW as it is impressive for the Taurus which has traditionally been a far slower car in past generations.

  • sad.

  • Whats that yellow sign on your car? the triangle surrounded by a circle?

how does it help or whats it for?

  • That indicates that I have the traction control turned off. On the current 3 series there's a button on the center dash that you push to turn off stability control, and if you want to turn off traction control as well, you push and hold the button in for 3-4 seconds. You will typically get better acceleration times in any car with a little bit of wheel spin without the throttle position being cut back - thus traction control being left on won't give you the best times.

  • I did a 0-80 video myself. But filmed from the outside.

The 328, if done to bmw specifications can reach 62mph in 6.2 sec.

    The sedan in 6.3

Well, thats what bmw admits to.

  • thats manual though, auto was expected to take longer

  • 0-60 in 7.47 not 7.05

  • I did a frame by frame analysis of this in Adobe Premier. It's definitely 7.05. What are you basing the time on? Your rough estimate watching the vid on youtube? Check when it hits 60 what the time is. Now also consider that for the first ~1/3 second of the video the car is not accelerating... it's revving up, but not accelerating. This is known as brake torquing which loads up the torque converter before launching the car.

  • my ZHP is faster

  • ZHP = 330i, right?

If so then I'd expect it to be faster than a 328i.

My 335i is faster than your ZHP, though.:p

Speaking of I REALLY need to get a video of my 335i up.. I said I'd do that months ago and still haven't.

  • it sounds awesome, naturally aspirated bmw engines are the greatest engines, hence they always win engine of the year award.

  • Great vid! It really shows that the 328i's are no slouch, Since this was a loaner car i bet people have put in regular gas which can also make the car slower, good numbers though

  • thats pretty fast, better than my IS250

  • the is250 was never meant for speed, nice car though

  • I have a 328xi loaner today while my 525xi is in the shop getting worked on. It accelerates well for a small car. Its the size of the Mercedes C300.

  • Do you know or does anyone know if the 2009 328 has come out?i heard it would be available in july but i am not sure.

  • Colombianivan... I accidentally hit 'remove' instead of 'reply' to your most recent comment asking about the difference between "D" and "DS". I'm not sure about this 328i loaner but in my regular 335i "DS" causes the torque converter to permanently lock up all the way from a complete stop/idle to top gear... it never appears to unlock. Shifting also becomes quite a bit faster at all RPM, and once you use manual mode (paddle shifters) it stays there and holds all gears you choose indefinitely.

  • ohh ok.thankyou.so is DS better or D?

  • DS (drive sport) is better for racing... faster shifts, more direct engine to wheel power transfer at all speeds (less power lost in transition), and if you aren't using the paddle shifters, it holds higher RPMs, especially through turns, which makes accelerating out of turns much more responsive.

  • awesome.thankyou!

  • The 328i would be most closely comparable to the IS250, which it is generally faster than. The 335i compares to the IS350, which are pretty close in a straight line but the nod still goes to the 335i, and definitely does on a road course. The M3 would be compared to the IS-F which are pretty close but in this case based on what I've seen the slight nod would go to the IS-F on the strip, but back to the M3 on the track.

    So yeah of course IS-F and 335i > 328i

    :P

  • It looks faster than 7.05 sec 0-60, but still much slower than a 335. Still looks fast enough for me to consider

  • I checked it out frame by frame... def 7.05. I definitely could have gotten a better time if I had brake-torqued it to load up the revs first but it was hard to do that while filming and all on a public road. The first .2 seconds or so of the 0-60 time were primarily spent revving up and loading up the torque converter with the wheels doing almost no moving.

I'd guess 6.8 is about the best I could have gotten it to do. Watch for my 335i 0-80 vid here in a few days. :)

  • first gear not push to the max, can do this faster, or have some limit in first gear ?

  • I did notice what you're talking about... it appears to shift 500-600 RPM before red line in first gear. I definitely had it floored though. I know sometimes cars will actually achieve better results if they're shifted earlier than redline in certain gears. It has to do with the fact that peak power usually occurs a few hundred RPM before red line. The automatic transmission in this car is probably programmed by BMW with that power curve in mind for 2nd gear.

  • yes you are right about shifting 500 - 600 rpm before red line... sometimes is better and faster... But did you try accelerate in tiptronic mode and goes with first gear up to the red line ?

  • No... I'm sure I could have pushed it to red line then and maybe seen if I got any better results (I know people have done at least a little better than I did in this video but it was warm summer weather and the road was at a very slight incline... probably worth a couple tenths of a second).

The problem is I was by myself, holding the camera in one hand and steering wheel in the other.. I needed a third hand for tiptronic! :D

  • hahhah third hand haha you are good (Y) :)

hmm next time put some girl in car that she can hold the camera :P

  • same as my audi a4. check on my video

  • Cool. :)

I actually had an 06 Audi A4 2.0t, FWD, w/ 6-speed manual. I ran a 15.1 @ 93 in the quartermile at the track which by seat of the pants feels faster than this 328i does, but in reality is probably pretty similar since turbo cars tend to feel a bit faster than non turbo cars with similar actual performance.

  • THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE. yeahhhhhhh

  • it sounds like automatic, but if you drive the manual is faster respond.

or else test drive the bmw 335i.

  • Yep, it is an automatic (loaner car from BMW). I actually own a 335i and it's MUCH faster. I plan to make a video of it doing the same run in the next week or two for comparison purposes.

I've heard many times that the 335i manual is not any faster than the auto (I have the auto)... I believe it since the ZF auto shifts very rapidly in the 335i (more rapidly than the GM auto in this 328i) and has the same # of gears as the manual.

  • oh really, mmmmm,, didnt know that.

but the 3 series is very comfort compare to the Z4.

  • slow..slow..slo...:(

  • Yeah it's not fast, but you also have to consider it's about the performance of, say, a V6 Accord or Camry, for a price that's not all THAT much higher than a V6 accord. I think the sticker on this car was 34k... and a comparably equipped Accord would probably be 6k less.

  • Is this the coupe or the sedan? Mine's the coupe...I probably shouldnt say this but its fuckin sexyy!!!!LOL

  • This is the sedan... I think BMW only gives out 328i sedans for loaners but that could just be the way my dealer is.

My 335i is also a sedan... I prefer sedans just because I hate letting people in and out of the back seat, plus the long doors can get annoying when getting in and out of the car.

BUT I definitely agree the coupe is better looking than the sedan... especially the hard top convertible coupe!

  • It's true about the doors...I have to park my car backwards in the garage just so I have enough room to get out, even then its a hassle, it's more like climbing out...But I love the 335i, I started one at the dealer and the noise is just pure pleasure.

P.S. I've driven the older and newer 325 loaner cars but I could never get more than a little wheelspin even with DSC off...the auto tranny always got in the way...wish they gave out manuals...hehe.
