@TheMasterpiece007 the difference is huge and vital. in a race where the best swimmers take 24-ish seconds, whereas the best runners would take 5 or 6 to do the same 50m, you want to cover as much distance in the air rather than in the water as you possibly can.
Swimming is very hard...really hard. But I think that cycling is a bit harder. At the Tour of France they do 3 weeks putting 200 km a day in the montains...doing 40km/h...
Swimming is very hard...really hard. But I think that cycling is a bit harder. At the Tour of France they do 3 weeks putting 200 km a day in the montains...doing 40km/h...
@pbmcabral I'm a swimmer and I have to disagree. There is a very good cycling-guy I know and I'm able to follow him even when he's sprinting. If he tries to swim however, he's not even able to complete a third of the training I do twice a day :)
I don't think you can compare the two. While the 50m sprint is certainly not as hard as a tour of France, the 200m fly is def harder then following the peleton. I thing both sports go to extremes to compete and are not "harder" or "easier"(unlike soccer)
i just turned 15 this past month and this is my first year swimming, my 50m free at best was a 24.38 and i just got my 50m fly time yesterday, horrible becuz ive never done it before, but it was a 30.02
Swimming is like weight resistance training on all of the major muscles in your body plus the aerobic training that runners and soccer players have to go through. its hell, and then there's the water that you constantly swallow when your teamates swim by you and their bow waves smack you in the face when you turn your head to breath
for me to get where i am with swimming i have to do 9 2 hour swim sessions a week, 2 1 hour gym sessions and 2 1 hour spin cycle sessions. being required to sprint for as long as 2 minutes is not intense when you run however water is 4 times as dense as air and you are using all your limbs to the greatest extent you can... it is a lot harder then football
i remember my first day of club swim practice i was like man it cant be that hard 2 hours later i couldnt feel my legs or arms i was wobbling while i was getting dressed if i bent down i needed someone to help me up swimming has to be hardest sport ever never knew it was gonna be that hard
alright so he swam twice a day, in the morning and then in sometime in the afternoon. he averaged around 17 or 18 thousand in the morning and aroun 20 thousand in the afternoon. google it or something.
By that measurements the hardest sport to preform will in is the one with tha hardest competition.
Football (Soccer for americans) is no doubt the hardes sport in the world to become the best at. But on the other hand you cant really measure how good you are in a sport if it doesnt requre some kind of scientific mesurement (ex: clocked preformance).
At the highest level, any sport is hard. The whole point in any sport is to beat your opponent and, to do so, you must push yourself harder than your opponent. At the highest level, not only is your opponent extremely skilled but his/her will to win is also extremely high and, assuming yours is as well, the result of this pairing is the optimum utilisation of your body...which hurts like a bitch.
I disagree. Golf may not require the same stamina as swimming but it requires fine motor skills and mental control that are as hard to master as ANY aspect of swimming. But then again everybody thinks they are special and their sport is the most unique..... It is just human vanity.

everybody thinks their sport is the hardest... yeah and everybody thinks they are the most deserving. Come on grow up. Swimming is no harder than chess or golf.
I've played soccer for 6 years, and when I first started club swimming last year, i almost died from exhaustion. I find swimming competitive far harder than soccer, or football.
yes I am kidding you haha I find soccer far harder than swimming. If you play soccer competitively it is just as hard as swimming and veeeeeeeery exhausting. You run and run and run, for at least 90 minutes. If you play soccer socially then I agree with you. Social soccer is easier than competitive swimming!
I think both sports are equally phisical demanding but what makes swimming so difficult is the dam water!even the slightest movement of your body creates a reaction and u have to be always looking not to create much drag in soccer u dont have to worry about the air conditioning you're speed
gymnastics is the hardest sport in the universe. anyone can play waterpolo or rugby. maybe they play HORRIBLY, but they can play. 1 in 100,000 can probably do a double twisting double somersault on floor.
Its not what you do. Its how you do it. By simply playing underwater rugby you dont go far. By simply doing a double twisting double somersault you are really good no matter how it is preformed.
@ABCba5tard dude, your an idiot. competitive swimming is without a doubt the one hardest physical stains you could ever put your body through. for example, my first swim meet i threw up then passed out in the middle of a 100m butterfly, i thought i was in amazing shape just because i had done football the year before and had a six pack, i'm going to Olympic trails in 2012, and i can honestly s.ay that the only sport that can come close to the cardiovascular torture is wrestling
@ABCba5tard and i've been training extremely hard most of my life, averaging in about 47 miles a week, i am going to the Olympics next year and i am going to beat eamon sullivan

WOW! Swimming is arguably the hardest sport on the face of the earth, along with Water Polo. Swimming requires the use of every muscle in the body, which equates to exhaustion. I would love to see you swim, if you think it is so easy.
@Adamalgorithm You're an idiot if you say that, You're comparing CHESS to Swimming? That's the most ridiculous thing I've EVER heard in my life. Chess is the LEAST most athletically demanding sport I can think of. Anyone who thinks that Chess is harder than swimming (you) is either high or really stupid.
@dallowsaratoga haha you obviously do not have a clue what you are talking about. YOu are like a creationist explaining to a scientist how stupid he is for thinking religion true. Perhaps you should play competitive chess before making a fool of yourself.
@justineswim totally agree man I've been swimming competitively for a little over 2 years and I have fallen in love with it and it is far harder than any other sport. those ball games are just games swimming is an actual sport.

dudes. its just which muscles of yours are strong or not....
swimmers= mostly upper body and some lower body
soccer= all lower body
football= id say lower body and a strong core
track= all lower body
if you dropped a runner in a pool and said swim theyd prolly suck
if you dropped a swimmer on a track and said sprint theyd prolly be slower.
TryToTopThat 2 years ago 2
Disagree with swimmers. Swimmers need pretty much everything. Strong upper body, core and legs. Each being just important.
