  • This song was used in the muppets

  • Check out that bass!

  • In some way, he looks like my best friend, Robert Emler. He was a basketball player though.

  • Have a look:

    h**p:// w**.youtube.com/watch?v=acTX1pIurTo

  • if I could play a synth this is one I would like to play.

  • Imagine being 10 years old in 1979 and hearing this when it was released.....and now when I'm 42 I still listen and enjoy it. It still sounds like the future. Enjoy. Bearhug. tx

  • This man was the god of electronic and futuristic sounds back in the early 80s and late 70s,i was crazy for his music and now 25 years on or more i still play his music..fuckin amazing!!!!!

  • my favourite bit is at 1:36

  • I loved this song for years, and its still not getting boring!!!!!

  • Odd but I'm not an electronica fan, much less a dance music fan. I'm, more or less, a rock 'n' roll boy. But I simply LOVE Gary Numan's earliest records along w/ Kraftwerk's Radioactivity album. And I think I finally figured out WHY I love these: because Gary & Kraftwerk basically replaced the electric guitar (which was, after all, Gary's primary instrument) w/ analogue synthesizers. They used rock beats (Gary using actual live drummers & bass players). It's definitely rock music, not disco!

  • @donedave Disco in that most electronica/dance music comes closer to disco: really fast beats & heavy bass lines over melody & groove. Rock 'n' roll while definitely emphasizing the beat, lends itself more to melody & harmony than strictly beats & bass lines. I just don't get off on most electronica/dance music (with some exceptions of course- LOVE Madonna's Ray Of LIght record!)

  • Chills at 0:33 - that melody struck me as a teenager and never left my consciousness. Absolutely perfect start to one of Numan's best albums.

  • in the 80s a bunch of friends and I at a club made the dj play this (continuously pestering him)...

  • Mediocre Films! FTW!! lmao

  • good stuff. Simple and addictive.

  • Haha Well Said People ! ! Well Said ! I Ussta hang out with Gary ! ! It's The 'Clack Clack Clack Clack Clack That Makes The Tune ! ! J x

  • Dark genius, so far ahead of his time, as most innovation. He gives me a glimpse of a possible future that is brutal, yet beautiful, sterile, yet oddly fulfilling. A future that I don't know if I want, but one which I find mesmorizing.

  • His music so dark, I love this.

  • my favorite numan song.

  • MASTERPIECE, creative, inventive, original, bizarre, odd, unsual, eccentric, superb, interesting, i could say a lot more, awesome

  • I seeing him tonight at Enmore Theatre Sydney. To all the Gen Y Wankers, listen...and you will understand.

  • I live my life in this sound !! makes me feel good

  • most amazing synths ever, it goes straight into your soul

  • this is good not like eminem he sucks man what up with that shit

  • I got this album given to me for my 8th birthday!

  • Numan. Strange, unique genius. Noone has ever sounded like him, before or since. "Airlane". First track I ever heard. Immediately riveting. Favorite track? "Down In the Park". Beautiful. Dark. Ominous. And eerie... as... hell... Numan, one of the great originals.

  • requested this in a club in the 80s... people were liek "???"....

  • gary numan is a legend

  • 100 people out there are giving me faith in humanity.

  • Great tune....anyone who disagrees....should be shot.

  • Back when electronica was cool...

  • one of numans best

  • @nightjammer I was 10 when i first heard this album, my brother gave it to me for my birthday and I played it non stop. Makes me feel old too. Funny how music seemed so much more important back then, you wouldn't find 10 year olds getting hooked on downloaded album like i did with practically everything by Numan

  • Coolest thing is playing this for people who never heard anything else of gary's but 'cars', after about 3 or four of these early songs, they are digging at the CD or DAT trying to figure out what's playing... I send them home with an unmarked mix and let them stew for a week or two. They are universally floored that this is Gary Numan. 100% new fans.

This is 80's stuff yeah, but it just sounds so freaking good again!

    mark of genius, i say.

  • they will be playing it in the year 3000 in the underground cities long after we are a distant memory

  • @jakkman69 We will not be a distant memory if thery still playing gary/tubeway....They will wish they were us in our time I know I've been there...The anunnaki brought me there to see...and yes its all gary numan and peace...No one goes with out food...no stress and free education....I wish they would take me back and leave me there.

  • @jakkman69 i agree, wtf could it be an unbelievable party. this kind of music in a dark neon room with black lights and people all dressed in black. gets you out of space and time. such a simple, but epic synthi riff. and so people still dance in the 30th century, it will be this kind of music

  • Gary Numan is touring the U.S. right now! Don't miss him!

  • @tjsbigidea Going to see him at the El Ray tonight in Los Angeles!! Hell Yeah!!!!!

  • real drums..real bass...reall guitar...sureal keyboreds...rock on :o)

  • Looks like is about to kick that pyramid's ass!!

  • My mother used to called Garys music "Cemetry music"...

No i do think any parent at this time, had a clue what he was about...

Im 44 years old now, and am still so proud.

To have been alive, to witness this little peice of history.

My hat goes off to you Mr "Legend" Gary Numan

  • Best listened to in a dark room just chilling.

  • replicas-pleasure principle-telekon..artist nowdays doesnt come anywhere near gary numan.....

  • replicas-pleasure principle-telekon..artist nowdays doesnt come anywhere near gary numan.....

  • how come i've wasted 17 years of my life not knowing about this man? i feel ashamed but at the same time i feel blessed to finally know about it now. this shit makes me high as a kite.

  • @SlaytanicMegaforce

I feel the same way about Thailand

  • Yeah, this is a track. Awesome!

  • Gary Numan is my favorite robot!

  • Ésta maravilla de LP me la compré con ahorros del dinero que mi papá me daba para el colegio. Siempre fué impresionante escucharlo.

  • I was 10 when this came out i turn 41 on sunday Real Music

  • i was 16 when this came out and i was seduced by Numan and John Foxx.

  • I was 10 when this came out . . . blew me away . . . still blows me away . . . a true musical master . . .

  • This is missing one of the audio channels information, you can't hear all of the instrument parts, upload again using stereo mix :)

  • I bought this album when I was 11 yrs. old and played it over and over again with my ear pressed against the speaker box.. I drove my family nuts.

  • I have this CD, it's awesome.

  • yeah , biaach! ultimo! screw everything else.. GN is god

  • I was 14 when this was released-a friend at a college radio station (WRSE) loaned me the import vinyl-fall of '79,I think. I was playing this months before it came out here in the states. Awesome album-still sounds light years ahead of it's time!

  • i had the 8 track of this whole album and i still like to listen to this very good tune

  • Fuck Nu Metal and Hip Hop, this is real music. Not your tuned down guitars that sound like shit (korn) and your sampled rip off songs (lil Wayne), this is a real form of music, made by a fucking genius called gary numan

  • I concur. I think in today's music, the problem, there is not enough artists that dare to try new things... that's what made Gary great, he came up with his own thing, you know.

  • I agree but I'll say not just artists don't dare to try new things;the record labels are guilty too.

Nowadays I really like people like Beck,Josh Homme or Mike Patton 'cause, in my opinion, they still original and passionate...

  • @MercyfulMaiden congrats for your comment i agree 100%.

  • @MercyfulMaiden -- YES !!

  • @MercyfulMaiden Just saw his show in Toronto Sunday night. Brilliant.

  • @darklordbunnykins Yeah, me too; that was awesome. :) I actually got to meet him and shake his hand. He was completely real and down to earth.

  • @MercyfulMaiden i happen to love Korn and Gary actually, and a bit of hip-hop ain't to bad :D

  • @MercyfulMaiden lil wayne is not hip hop, man. hip hop is amazing..thjats like calling nickelback Rock

  • @MercyfulMaiden Modern metal is very good actually, if you've heard any Black Dahlia Murder or Whitechapel you'll know how much talent that actually requires. Gary Numan is a genius, but only in his comfort zone of synth pop.

  • @MercyfulMaiden Genius being the keyword there my friend!

  • @MercyfulMaiden Not to be a dick, but there is no such thing as "real music". It's all about taste. Everyone has their own opinion.

  • @MercyfulMaiden look , you ignorant dip-shit .. i LOVE gary numan , but i also love bands like BMTH ,architects , BFMV , a7x , escape the fate , Korn .. and plenty of other bands .. just because you don't like a genre of music dosnt make it shit... *cough* IDIOT *cough*

  • @3m0skatiish I agree. Fucking elitists.

  • One of the best synth songs ever. Highly influential on later electronic artists, as well as hip-hop acts and Nu-Metal. There's not enough good that can be said about this man, and the best thing is that he's still out there, kicking it.

  • I was 9 when this came out, 3 years later when I was 12, this album was my life.

  • I was also ten when my mom bought me this album. I listened to it over and over and over again with my ear pressed against the speaker box. I drove my family nuts. I bought Telekon soon afterwards and did the same.

  • Was it one Cassette or Vinyl?

  • Saw him performing that in Dublin 3 weeks ago. It was unbelievably cool! :-)

  • breathless song

  • ARW WE NOT MEN?

  • @ohare100 We are not Devo, we are Numan.......

  • saw him 1st time when i was 10yrs old..Liverpool..stunned with the sound.. november...going to be Epic!

  • excellent synth song...Gary is brilliant! canna wait for November's Pleasure Principle tour n actually see this song performed live

  • Already went, it rocked :)

  • Great song, even better on Living Ornaments '81.

  • I was 9 when this came out and I thought somehow that is was David Bowie (hey, I was NINE!). My brother gave it to me for my birthday when I turned ten; he pranked me and told me it was Donald Duck before I took the wrapping paper off the LP. I literally played this thing until the needle would no longer stay on the vinyl! Good times. God damn it, I'm old . . .

  • @nightjammer Best prez EVA ! J :)

  • @nightjammer dude i am hating you XD. i wish i had that LP of gary numan. i love synthpop and electronic music and all that great classic stuff. even trained my ears to listen 2 vinyl, and analog sounds. i wish i was around for when all these great bands were. dont beat yourself up about age, you were born in probably the best era of music. something other people cant experience, unless someone makes a time machine! probably when i am about your age hahaha.

  • @nightjammer - Great story - brings back memories ...Wish I would of had this ... listening to vinyl as a kid was fantastic .. I can remember laying on the floor with some huge headphones on - and listening to a whole side over and over - lots of stones, Led Zepp, etc. ... wish I would have known about Gary Numan before - just got into his stuff in the last 5 years ... amazing artist ..

  • @nightjammer I too was 9 when this came out! I too got it for my birthday (via record token). I was never told it was Donald Duck but I did play it to death. Still do.

  • i was 10 when this came out , i asked for replicas for xmas but my mum got me this... i soon fell in luv with it though , fantastic album !!!

  • Thats Ironic,,,,I was ten that Christmas as well.I also asked for Replicas. But I got the first Tubeway army album instead,it was awfull.

  • Crikey, what an absolute CRACKER. I remember the album....

  • One of the best album covers ever. the simplicity of the image is excellent. seeing him on tour soon - touring with this album The Pleasure Priciple 30 years after it was released..

    ATVmidlands

  • Live was even better, it had guitar lines in the song.

  • sounds so much better live.

  • since 1979

  • this is vintage right here.
