@oblivikid you have the intellect and comprehension skills of a gerbil-you better be proud and like being english because the rest of the world think your idiots!!
The Welsh language is spoken mostly in Wales however large communities in Patagonia, Argentina speak it. There are also thousands of Welsh speakers in the United States (where 0.6% of the population claim to be of Welsh descent), Australia, New Zeland, and of course Scotland, Ireland and England.
i know my history and the english did control a quater of the globe and the battle of hastings was fought by tierd english soilder who had just taken on thew saxon invaders then had to travle miles to hasting and news flash we owend your country since 1012-1999 and some welsh wanted us to stay but cakes won now go get stonded you sheep shagger
If you think you owned Wales then you obviously know VERY little Welsh history. The English may have been tired but they had an excellent position on the hill yet they still lost due to the better tactics of the Normans. If you study the 200 years of fighting between the Welsh and Normans, you will see that the Welsh owned the Normans on many occasions. Due to your poor spelling and lame insults I know you must be a person of very low intellect, so I tried to keep that explanation simple.
By the way your facts are horrible. The Anglo Saxon English had marched north to defeat the Norwegians not the Saxons at Stamford Bridge, having had their northern armies epically defeated by the Norwegians. I'm not even from England and I knew that! Shame on you.
No it isn't- the English army had been decimated at Fulford, that's why Harold had to fight the Norwegians at Stamford Bridge by taking them by surprise. The idiot I was arguing with at the time claimed that the English fought the Saxons (when it was clearly they were fighting Norwegians and Normans)- I was merely setting him straight.
i hate the f****** welsh all yopu have to be proud off is cakes and rugby now the english well an empire that coverd a quater of the globe and the laung is alive in lots of countrys unlike the welsh laung which is dead stone dead
@acecombatfan438 actually ull find it was the welsh archers not the english, the english had crosbowmen they used the welsh archers who where the best in the world
@fuzzage1 Actually the Archers were vastly English extraction they were called YEOMEN, and any way it doesn't matter because Wales didn't exist back then it was conquered in the 1200 by the kingdom of england.
@clodester invaded only once conquered but oucch look at a history book or wikipedia WALES CONQUERED by England their language and culture all but annihilated just English people living in wales now, FACT over 75% of Welsh people have English surnames from ultimate rape in history
@mastercheff1216 ah wikipedia.....as the word of wiki is law? its obv never fallible! Every school child in wales has to learn welsh by law and now 80% of welsh ppl speak welsh! Second welsh have english surnames? you've clearly never looked at a welsh phone book! Glyndwr was never betrayed by anyone and never caught, William Wallace was, and the Kings of Scotland bowed to the english! The welsh didnt! I dont see your point! England is not english anymore, Wales stil is!
@clodester You don't see my point? oh dear it's very simple friend you claimed that the English were defeated at the battle of Stamford WRONG they were overpoweringly defeated and resulted in only 24 viking ships of 300 to return the wounded to norway, and simple excuses such as wikipedia isn't reliable, 80% of the time the sources their have references to verify the statement thanks common names in Wales Smith ENGLISH, Williams ENGLISH, Edwards ENGLISH, James ENGLISH, Harris ENGLISH
@mastercheff1216 ok ok, i'll grant you edwards and smith, james on a good day and harris true. Davis WELSH, Jones Welsh, some of the most common, popular names in england and Wales.....both Welsh.
The English Tudor dynasty.....Tudor is a Welsh name from the North! Mrs Windsor's blood line is so diluted shes hardly English. St George....not english, Georges cross, is the Georgeian Flag! St David only British saint to be born in their respective country.
@clodester St Georges flag was adopted by Richard the lionheart ion the Crusades, and the difference between the English having Welsh names and the Welsh having English Names is that the Welsh took those names on and have no Genetic similarities, The Welsh have English surnames due to the fact that Migrations of English people in Wales Genetically changed a huge bulk of Welsh people which they don't like to admit, same as the lowland Scots.
Also the Welsh and English are genetically almost identical anyway, the germanic invaders appear to have been overlords over the English Celts rather than replacing them completely. But they did manage to wipe out the original Celtic language of the English Celts. SInce they never made it to Wales that's why the Welsh language exists today.
@GrandMaster1136 there was no such thing as english celts ro england when the germanic invaders first landed=there was only celtic britons who then ended up mostly in wales scotland ,northern england and cornwall, try to think before you spout nonsense
@clodester Your a colonised English sub country my friend, Language Welsh is learnt as a first language but 80% of Welsh people Speak Welsh on casual? Only 21% of welsh people claim to speak fluent welsh and read it, the rest speak English my friend the facts are tough but deal with it.
@clodester I hardly get my Knowledge off of Wikipedia I also read books looks at statistic poll, have a interest in Genetics of people of the Isles, And I am not knocking Welsh culture or Pride I'm just sick of them slagging of the English due to something that happened 700 years ago and has no relevance to the English today!
@mastercheff1216 there is relevance. Welsh devolution is a half hearted consolation prize by westminster . Prince of Wales, stolen from Wales for the Prince regent. The reason Welsh people have english names is because of English feudal dominance over the Welsh which has evovled through the Acts of Wales during the 16th (i think 16th) which basically made it offical that England owned Wales.
The hatred is stupid i agree but it exsists in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and in the republic
@clodester Wales wasn't in Feudal dominance it was incorporated into the Kingdom of England in 1282 after Llywelyn ap Gruffydd died in battle and effectively ended the Welsh rebellion, after that English laws were forced upon welsh people and many English people moved there, Edward I of England then assumed control of Wales as part of England.
Normans conquered the English in 1066 and conquered the Welsh by 1283, took them 217 years! And how many of those 'English' names are actually of French origin? Over a quarter of English words are derrived from French words introduced by the Norman overlords of the Anglo-Saxons. Ultimate rape in history? Not sure about that, I mean look at what the Normans did to the English, you should be angry at them not the Welsh they raped both countries.
@GrandMaster1136 normans are the english oyu twit. it wasnt england as a nation until the normans took it form the SAXONs stop speaking nonsense. and true. the normans (modern day english) were origanlliy from france or a protectorate of some sort. the welsh fought valiantly but being so small and so close to the heart of england in the end they failed which is why ppl look down on them its sad
Actually the English existed as a people long before the Norman conquests (the Anglo-Saxons were the people of the Kingdom of England), so he was right. But the Normans basically overhauled a lot of English culture and their language, so the English today are culturally more a mix of Celt, Anglo-Saxon, Viking and Norman and probably several other peoples.
@fuzzage1 actually most of the english archers were english. they just coppied the long bow tactics from wales which had invented the longbow. most english armies were made up of englishmen thought they did have have some mercenarys. sometimes over 50% was mercenary regiments (seldom)
You are obviously a sad and frustrated little person then. What do the Welsh have to be proud of? How about the Welsh Silure tribe's fierce resistance against the Roman forces, how about the fact that Wales stayed independent after all of present day England had fallen to the Saxon hordes, or after they held off the Normans for 2 centuries unlike the English who fell to them after just one battle. The Welsh language is not stone dead you idiot, oh and P.S learn your history moron.
Whenever I play as the Welsh I attack England in the first turn, blitzkrieg their arses. I annihilate their armies before they can form a cohesive defense, and within a couple of turns I'm at the gates of London. Once in a while they'll be able raise a huge army to challenge me, but then I pull some Hannibal shit and slaughter them, while razing london to the ground mohahahahaha!
lol, i only played the britain expansion once andi also picked the welsh. i noticed the same thing. i began attacking the english to fast for thewm to react properly so they were crip[pled before they knew what hit them. i had a harder time w/ the enlgish barons but they would eventually die too!
