  • This is all foreigne to me lol...I try to do jpegs and it doesn't work...I noticed your pic was gif ...is there a way to do jpegs or pdf files?

  • if i buy it from u would i be able to use it with my cricut. and how much does it cost please leave me a message.

  • how do you actually get the files from your computer to the cricut?

  • I bought SCAL 1.016. Does this version work with Cricut?

    Pleaseeeeeee lets me knoww?

    Thanks

  • When i import the SVG i get a blank box, how do i fix this?

  • @Kylethemestupfile Make sure it's a path

  • Just so I am clear...all SCAL versions sold prior to date are compatible with Cricut machine?

    Thank you!

  • @sarahbowker3 That is correct you can no longer purchase any third party software to work with your cricut machine. You can thank provocraft for that! However there are many other superior cutters out there other than the cricut. And the third party software works with those cutters and the creators of the cutters are more than happy that programs like SCAL and MTC are making programs for their machine. Check out blackcat cougar, KNK Zing and many more cutters that are available.

  • I think that now I know what was happaning, but is there any way that Inkscape covert an image without put it in white and black?

  • Please help me with this... I am trying to import a file (to sure cuts) that i have convert already , but it always says... error, failed to load the svg file. I do not know what I am doing wrong. I'm following every single thing u do and I still can't do it. Please somebody help. I really need to import an image that I have.

  • @reginadotnet @reginadotnet Is there a SCAL3 or SCAL2? - Yes, Can you still complete the task of importing SVG's in SCAL2 or SCAL3? - Yes Can you cut with cricut in SCAL 2? - Yes. Even though SCAL2 is no longer being sold, there are still people out there who have SCAL 2 from previous purchase and this video applies. Thanks for your nice comment and video will stay up.

  • Any idea if the SCAL is compatible with the Cricut Imagine as well ?? i own an expression, but just recently got an imagine.. was curious if it would work !

  • Provo craft is suing the creator of Sure Cuts A Lot. This is rather pathetic and disappointing. SCAL is the only reason I even bought my Cricut. If they win this lawsuit and I am no longer able to use SCAL, I'm going to buy a new Electronic cutter. I am not going to buy any Provo Craft products again. I'll stick with sizzix embossing instead of a cuttlebug. If they want to keep their customers then maybe they should try meeting our needs. Pathetic.

  • Inkscape crashed my Mac and corrupted most of my apps. Beware.

  • Hi, Got a cricut create, when I used SCAL it cut two lines in the middle of the image, rendering it useless, any idea why?

    Thanks for the vids,

  • @cardznbeadz You'll have to use a registered copy of SCAL for it to work. Make sure you type in your serial number.

  • You have made my day, learning and playing around this has been great also for

converting my jpegs to svg and then i can save them in AI for other projects for printing. thanks..

  • can Cricut Imagine use it too??

can we cut the image we want use Cricut Imagine ??

  • @village283 Cricut Design Studio can't communicate to the Cricut Imagine. SCAL nor Make the Cut Software currently works with the Cricut Imagine

  • The guy sounds like the dude on OwnagePranks haha.

  • great tutorial

  • This is great! I have been under using my sure cuts alot. It's time to get to work. Thanks

  • Wow- i didnt even see that download button.. thank you for your help!

  • "UniConvertor is a universal vector graphics translator. The project uses sK1 engine to convert one format to another. It has an import filters for: CDR, CDRX, CDT, CMX, AI, CGM, WMF, XFIG, SVG, SK, SK1, AFF and export filters: AI, SVG, SK, SK1, CGM, WMF." i dont know what that means but im guessing that the uniconvertor is what we download..

  • @mzsweetiepetitie Go to inkscape.org and in the top right you will see the download button. Based on your operating system it will tell you which one to download. HTH

  • Yes, I know- i just bought Sure Cuts A Lot yesterday amd have been looking at the youtube videos, but it seems that the inkscape is still better than the one on the software since it can at least seperate the colors like your youtube video if you wanted too, and it also seems that the lines are more crisp..

  • I really appreciate this you creating these tutorials! However, i just went to the inkscape and i am extremely clueless on where and what to download.. Is it called the uniconvertor?? Because im reading that it exports all these files but doesnt say anything about jpg, gif, etc but it does say export svg...

  • @mzsweetiepetitie it saves svg's and doen't export them. But this tutorial was made prior to SCAL2 and Make the Cut software. they both have a tracing feature now that cuts out the inkscape step.

  • Im sorry I did not explain correctly, I mean Need to see the cricut machine cutting out the project from design to out put to the cricut machine. so i can see how the machine responds to SCAL.

  • I need to see the full process!!!! you guys show the software portion but you never show how the machine cuts it out I need to see the final product of what you are making!

  • @stewartpowerandlight every piece that we have on our website ScrappyDew are the actual photos of a finished product.

  • @ScrappyDewCreations Oh check out Scrappingtable's Youtube channel. She does demos software and shows cricut cutting.

  • I went to inkscape to download the program but was confused they had to many things to download. I have windows 7 can you tell me what I need to click on to download to my computer

    Thanks

  • MINE IT ONLY SAID IMPORT WHY

  • I am new to the cricut but I know I need some type of software with it. I just don't know what to get. What would you recommend? Design Studio, SCAL2 or MTK?

  • @nikstewart Design Studio is too limiting, meaning you can only cut that design out if you have those cartridges. SCAL or MTC is a What You See is What you Get, regardless of what cartridges you have.

  • @ScrappyDewCreations

    What's MTC?

  • @john146only Make the Cut Software- we have some tutorials on it if you care to see.

  • Hi, Rob: Why do you use inkscape to convert file vs. the scal program?

  • @NeedleJUNKY I made a video response to show you how to do this all in SCAL2. However at the time of the video we were using SCAL1. SCAL2 does have an Auto Trace now. However sometimes inkscape is still needed to get a desired results.

  • I use inkscape with scal because after you trace it you can edit the svg.

  • @NeedleJUNKY It is Make the Cut software... Latest software to compete with SCAL

  • How do we get the free svg's that we are to get when we buy the scal2?? I also want to know how do I get the cricut bug svg or where is it?? Thankyou :)

  • @KraftyKatsy Visit our website for Starter Package Details. Cricut bug is from doing a search on google and tracing it.

  • Thanks so much for your great tutorial!

  • Got it, but when I cut, it cuts lines through my project. How do I correct this?

  • That's one of the programmers way of allowing you to see the software and how it works. Once you purchase your copy those extra lines will disappear. They are just watermarking your image.

  • Thank you for your prompt reply! You are a great Trainer!

  • No problem we aim to train! Looks like you're just getting started with software. At least now you have an option SCAL or MTC

  • @ScrappyDewCreations

OK. I bought Make the Cut but now I am not so sure I bought the right thing. Could I turn this back in and buy the SCAL from you>

I bought DS and hated it. What shall I do>

  • @sgabbard2009 Yeah there is a 30 day money back policy. Inkscape is no longer needed to trace images. You may want to try out MTC's new trace feature.

  • do you know how to get sure cuts alot for free?

  • yes download the trial it is free

  • THANKS very much for the video tutorial! I was very worried about buying the cricut... with your help I feel a LOT better about using my own artwork now.

I will def. click your web link for the scal!

  • thank you very much for this tutorial!! i am just about getting a cricut, but i wasn't sure if it is something for me (i don't like those cartriges...) but if you can create your own designs..... WOW :D thanks a lot!!!

  • LOVE IT!!! Thank U

  • Thank you for your videos! So Much help!

  • Sure thing! Thanks for watching and if you have any requests for tutorials send them my way!

  • I got it, thanks! One more question... I have great objects (thanks to you!) but I need to learn how to remove outlines from them so I can center the objects where I want them on the page. Can you help on that one? I looked at your tutorials but didn't see what I was looking for.

  • Do I need to have a connection from my computer to the cricut?

  • Yes it's a simple USB connector that connects your computer to your Cricut. Same type of cord that your printer uses :)

  • what is you are tracing something that is alot of white? like a ghost for instance.

  • This video used a CricutBug(gif) as an image. It was all black with a transparent background. The best contrast is white background and black image.

  • Hi. I find your videos so very helpful! I downloaded Inscape and was successful in using it thanks to you, but I wonder if there is a way to crop pictures either before or after I put them in Inkscape? Thanks.

  • You can't crop, but you can clip. Draw the required shape (star, rectangle, pentagon) over the picture, select the shape and the picture, and set the clip (from the menu: Object -> Clip -> Set).

  • how does one send a private msg to you rather than posting here??

  • hi my mom has been dying to get one of these and i had alot of questions considering if you were able to use an image off of the internet thanks to this instructional video my mom is gonna love the cricut and as a bonus i play goalie for ice hockey and painting my mask is not cheap so thanks to this i can have my own vinal image for cheap thank you!!!

  • Yes you can. There may be some copy right issues involved. However there are tons of free or for personal use images/ clip art out there. The new SCAL 2 has a Auto Trace feature so inkscape may not be needed.

Make sure you check out our latest videos on this!

  • thanks so i will only have to download scal 2 and then my mom is all set.

Oh boy she is gonna go craft crazy! :)

  • How do I open up Inkscape in the view that you are showing in your video?

  • Go to View> Display Mode > Normal

  • Nice, and thanks for the tutorial. My wife will greatly appreciate this software as we are full-time students and dont have the extra cash for cartridges!

QUESTION: Which program did you use to make this video?! I love how it zooms in when you go to like File and whatnot like a spotlight deal! Thanks!

  • Thanks the program is called Screen Flow for the Mac computers

  • Thanks SOOO much!! I don't have either program but will have to get SCAL for sure now. You have explained this process better than I have seen. Thank you so much for your time.

  • Hi, This sounded good, so I took your advice and subscribed to Sure Cuts A Lot,

Downloaded Inkscape and tried to save my new SGV image to desktop - with no success. My image would not save anywhere! Any ideas please? craftyval

  • Some images work better than others... send me your image via our scrappydew website and I will see if I can help.

  • Hi again, Thanks for your reply. While I was waiting I kept trying various options.I have managed to save an image by 'exporting' it. Although this is slightly clumsy, it does sort of work.

  • Thank you so much!! Lots of help. I've had to come back and watch it over and over because I had forgotten.

  • Love your youtube channel. Lots of help. THank YOu :)

  • Hey, try Inkscape again. Even though I was not supposed to be able to use it with 10.3.9, the second install was a charm! Good luck. I love SCAL.

  • Hello, Great video but I tried to install Inkscape on my MAC and it does not work. Any idea what I can do.

  • I had the same problem... got an error. Didn't work. ;(

  • Awesome, thanks for sharing!

  • Great video. I really want to know how to use pictures I find off the internet with the SCAL. How do I get the image to an SVG file in my SCAL. You already had an image on your desktop ready to save as SVG file, can you explain the process before that? Thanks bunches.

  • Thank you! You can find the image you want on the net... Right click the image and select the "Save As." That is how I got the image on the desktop.

  • I followed all your steps, but when I go to SCAL and import the SVG file I created, the edges are all jagged on my image in SCAL and the cut is also jagged. Is there a way to clean up an SVG file?

  • Yes you can adjust the "nodes" after the file is converted to path. But this process is all based off the image quality. Send me an email with file attachment so I can see what you are talking about.

  • awesome tutorial...i don't think you could have made it any easier. i just ordered my SCAL today...i can't wait to get it.
