the 1000HE will play garrys mod (a half life 2 mod) at playable framrate if you overclock the graphics card and lower the resolution and graphics settings
I really wish they dident stop making 8.9" netbooks. Ive used a eee pc 900 before and LOVED the size. I just find it much more attractive than a 10" netbook.
Do you want a big performance boost in your pc games?
You should overclock your graphics card. You just need to tweak some simple settings, and you will get a huge boost in the quality, and the speed of your games! Get the guide which tells you how to do it, 100% free, 100% safe from:
Do a Google image search of "Montreal Central Train Station", or "Gare Centrale Montreal." It may not look like much from the outside, but the inside is an integral part of Montreal's Underground City. In fact, if it wasn't for the departures/arrivals sign in the main concourse, you wouldn't even know you were in a train station.
New York City's train station is a museum. Toronto's train station is a soulless dump.
I'm still using my 900HA, though it's falling apart. I foolishly walked into a wall while holding it (it was dark), cracking the right rear corner off. Then, it fell one story onto a hardwood floor. But it still works!
I'm waiting for the T91MT (8.9" tablet, Z520, multitouch, Windows 7), though I've given a lot of consideration to the HP Mini 311 (Atom N280, ION graphics). The only thing I don't like is the large size (11.6"), but going from GMA950 to 9400M graphics would be a nice upgrade.
Very clever review! Trying to decide on a netbook myself. I wanted the Samsung Go N310 because I read about it's great 6 cell battery... Turns out that's only in the USA, not Ireland or the UK. Bummer.
8.9inch screens are the perfect size for netbooks, 10.1-11 are starting to get a little bulky, edging more towards sub notbook not really netbook. Asus need to update there 8.9inch line up not end it. the best Eee was the 900a perfect for mobility, harddrives are a bad idea for mobility
But definitely Asus should keep making 8.9" netbooks. It may be only an inch smaller, but that dropped inch has a huge impact on the unit's overall size and portability.
Nope! It's still being used as my office computer!
My next review might be a Supermicro 5015A-H rackmount server. What's different about it? It's less than ten inches deep, and it's powered by an Atom processor!
could you please do a video review comparison between 1000HE and 1005HA? even though the specs of the 1005 are supposedly better i've heard it's less comfortable to use and less reliable...
Asus does consistently improve their product lines as they release new models, so don't hesitate to check out the 1005HA with the 10.5 hour battery especially if it's less expensive than the 1000HE. The 10.5 hour battery should last about 6.5 hours under realistic battery use, which is excellent.
Very well done, sir! I've been spending the past hour and a half watching 1000HE reviews on YouTube, as I ordered one today. Yours is my favourite, by far!
The Canadian perspective is also greatly appreciated, though I'm hoping my eee's keyboard is not the busy-looking bilingual one.
Coincidentally, I was thinking of using my eee for mobile recording/mixing with my Xenyx mixer and same Behringer USB interface. Glad to know the machine can handle it well.
Radio Martini for the credits, Acid Trumpet (a.k.a. Acid Jazz) for the background music. You'll need to overlap Acid Jazz just a bit if you want it to loop properly.
Actually, 1080i doesn't really have a standard horizontal resolution. It can be 1920 just as it can be 1440.
The dining room table scenes were all recorded on a 1440x1080i HDV tape based Canon HV20. The HF200 footage was recorded at the highest possible quality setting at 1920x1080i.
Except that the frame rate is all screwed up. The resolution of the original video is 960x540 at 30fps. YouTube's video processors can't handle that unconventional resolution even though it's officially called one-quarter HD.
I chose that resolution because the final video will play back properly on Intel A110 based UMPCs.
Not necessarily. The trick is to prepare a preliminary script as before you record or evaluate anything, then plan all your shots around the script and fill in the blanks.
The longest step is evaluating the computer itself. That can take a few days, especially when you're evaluating a long life battery!
A multilingual keyboard layout (it has French accents drawn on it which I need), and both French and English language versions of the printed material and the operating system (I prefer the English version -- not interested in relearning all the French versions of the computer terms).
Your video is of great help. I just have one question.
Is the 0.3 webcam resolution of the 900HA really horrible when compared to the 1000HE? I'm thinking about using it for skype as well. In Australia, the 900HA is $300 cheaper then the 1000HE right now so I'm thinking about getting one of them, (most likely the 900HA)
The 0.3 Mp Webcam is fine. It's definitely better than many standalone Webcams out there, and is perfectly suitable for video calls.
My problem with Webcams is that I now find them all to be of poor quality after having connected my standard definition camcorder directly into the composite input of my video capture card. The picture was so much cleaner and better balanced than anything I've ever seen in ANY Webcam.
hi i have a 900ha which the battery life is only 4 hours which kinda hurts my ass compared to 100he so i went on ebay and found some 6,8 cell batteries for my eee pc, do you recommend buying them or not ? are they safe ? if not is there another place which i can buy a battery ? THX
Be careful with third-party batteries. Try to get them from a well known company. Google the company name and see how many complaints turn up.
Also, make sure the battery is designed for the 900HA. If the ad says it's suitable for the 900HA and with other 900 series devices, the company might have added "900HA" to the product literature without first checking for compatibility.
Too many obscure Chinese companies are notorious for making shoddy products and lying about them. Be careful.
Do note that I'm pressing the keys pretty hard to make the keyboard flex. However, the flex isn't so bad that it feels as if the keyboard will give way. For me, the amount of flex is well within reason for a notebook keyboard.
The French Canadian keyboard on the 900HA however, from what I saw in the store, is a cheaply made keyboard that feels as if you can fold it up into a paper airplane! :)
Hello François, just a quick question, what is the brand of that rather dapper and functional rectangular (black) bag you shove the 1000HE into at 7:35 of the video?
