I live in Peabody the next town over and I can see it from the top of my street it looks so cool but I always wondered y they made it look like a castle
The pictures are beautiful but the contents are so frighteningly sad for the helpless people who were committed to a place like this...it once again shows mankinds inhumanity to mankind.
i definitely would give major kudos to Dr. Thomas Story Kirkbride for this amazing building. it would still be in operation if corrupt psychotic doctors in it in the first place. DSH was in excellent condition before the closure and as soon as heating systems were shut down, a massive water lead busted on the top most floor flooding an area and lead to one of the rooms top floors to come caving in on consecutive floors below it. sad to see it destroyed and converted...
meant to say that the place would still be in operation if the corrupt psychotic doctors were not in it in the first place. thats the only reason why it closed is because of their abusing the patients. i pray that God lets them have their peace as they have done no wrong.
@hellsmaw84 When Danvers was shutting down, the Maintenace Dept was told to keep the water lines open. When they state why, they were told so the pipes would burst! The state wanted Danvers to fall into ruins.
@LarsonsMom the water lines bursted because they were shut off, not because of being open. if they were left open, water would of been able to return to its proper place when the building began to freeze during the winter. water lines closed = water line expansion = water line burst = water leaking when spring and summer came around. and the state was stupid for ruining such a great hospital.
good photos in video. I wish i could have visited this institution before the fire. During the years i have been a patient at various psych wards so when i see institutions like this i cant help but feel like part of my soul is there too. Lifes energy plane that connects lost souls in places like this.
heck yea! i loved this video, and i wanted to visit this place sooo friggin bad! cept they had to go and demolish it two friggin years ago!! gerrr... but it was really an awesome video!
It did burn for about 24 hours((I can't remember when)) but only one building that I can remember was damaged... now some company owns the lot && demolished DSH for condo's && housing structures :[[[
many people that walk up to the building get an eerie feeling about it, and it does make me wonder if the people living there have reported seeing ghosts. i know i wouldnt want to live there because of the management being complete asses to thier tenants. its amazing how this place was registered as a historical landmark but was torn down by the greed of a company and state.
John, I thought I recognized these photos from the Danvers State Insane Asylum website. Your photos are beautiful. Great use of lighting and wonderful composition. You create quite an atmosphere: eerie and poignant, desolate and chaotic. Well done. Very well done. I enjoyed your site, if the Danvers State Insane Asylum site belongs to you. Great information and, again, great photos! I'm sorry they demolished it. The architecture was amazing!
@sammywammy. It's been destroyed since 06

The real star of Session 9; the old building itself. It had a very creepy screen presence.

What music is this? It sounds like the type you'd hear in one of those "seek and find/ hidden object" games. It's very appropriate.
