The Employee Forced Choice Act takes away the right to keep ones vote private, allowing union goons to intimidate workers into signing on. The right to secret ballot is fundamental to democracy.

There are many small business owners that take great care of the employees, but there are some who don't and those who don't deserve it when the workers unionize to get what is deserved. If the majority of workers want a union now, there is nothing stopping them from voting for it in a secret ballot. There is no rational justification for this legislation. The Employee Forced Choice Act takes away the right to keep ones vote private, allowing union goons to intimidate workers into signing on. The right to secret ballot is fundamental to democracy.
Worse, the act forces businesses and unions to accept government arbitration in strikes, whether both want it or not.

One problem with your idea FAH. There is no secret ballot currently in place. Please do a little research for yourself and check out the NLRB process that is in place right now. The EFCA actually adds a place for secret ballots. (once enough interest is shown in Organizing) The places that spout off lies about the EFCA removing any secret ballots are funded by the same Big Businesses that would rather spend millions on misinformation than thousands on liveable wages and health care.

The only way this would be an employee free choice is if it was the right to vote by secret ballot. This act will subject employees to intimidation and is a one sided act in favor of unions. Give all sides a fair shake. By taking the right to vote away you are implying that employees do not have the intellect to make the correct choice for their future. . You think you need unions only if you hear the lies unions tell you. I know that sounds harsh, but seriously, I have never seen a union that hasn't lied to its members. Unions, in the long run, end up stifiling buisness. Giving in to union demands was what killed GM. It wouldn't make it's car-making process more efficient because then it would have to fire workers. Even when GM was dying, it wouldn't fire workers or lessen wages, and that was the death of the company.

GM died because it made stupid business decisions, like keeping on with huge inefficient cars when the market was moving to small compacts. The unions had nothing to do with it. GM made bad cars. Everybody in the world knows that. And if the bosses want their employees to listen, they might want to try and talk to them, rather than treating them like retards and talk over their heads. They could, for example, treat the workers representatives (aka unions) as partners, rather than enemies.

GM faced pressure from the UAW to not make cars more efficient to produce or make them smaller, because then there would be fewer workers needed. The bad buisness decitions that GM made was fueled by it's desire to please the UAW.

I work as a consultant to manufacturers that wish to set up or expand in Mexico. What this dumb bastard, Maddow, doesn't understand is that this legislation will create lots of jobs...in MEXICO. The legislation could allow unions to intimidate. Employers already have tons of ways to intimidate employees. It's good for the unions, and the GOP has basically fixed themselves permanently as an anti-labor party.
Back in the 70s (and even 80s) they would sometimes manage to win support from a union or two.

Government elections are held in private for good reason. They let people vote their conscience without undue outiside influence from.
The same holds true for union elections. Maddow claims that businesses intimidate, but the same is true of unions. Maddow also claims employees could choose to hold a secret ballot, but how would they choose? Secret ballot? A show of hands?
Elections should be by secret ballot. This protects the employee from intimidation from businesses and unions.

Unions have been responsible for every workplace benefit this country affords people, unionized or not. There's one great example we are all thankful for every single Friday: It's called the weekend.

Paid vacation, sick leave, weekends are all the result of Unionized workers fighting for benefits that then became standard for all workers. Of course, a lot of non-union workers don't get paid time off, or sick days, or reasonable work weeks. I wonder what would happen if they were unionized...

i do know what i am talking about ....retiring at 55 with outrageous pension, and while they are working "skilled" jobs (MY ASS) a fuckin robot can do they get paid way more than the competition which is why the products become un-buyable and then the industry tanks. ENTIRELY THE UNION FAULT, and then they don't want to do what is neccessary to fix the problem so the idiots just lose their job. I have never been union and never will, and i always have had sick days, paid vac. and good hours.

I 100% agree with that. There are many small business owners that take great care of the employees, but there are some who don't and those who don't deserve it when the workers unionize to get what is deserved. However, fair pay goes both ways, a job is only worth doing if the right compensation is there, and a job is only worth compensating well if it is done right.
