  • The poster of this video is a racist and blind go back to mexico hate monger.

  • Instant favorite

  • The metropolitan area of Greater Los Angeles is the economic epicenter of California -The Golden State- , and 7th most powerful economy of the world.

Los Angeles- The most Mexican city in the United States. History speaks by itself! Do NOt ban Mexican-American studies, like the corrupt hate monger people in Arizona are trying to do. Feel proud to be Californian, Mexican, or Mexican-American. Latino and Hispano. Feel proud to speak Spanish!

  • @EkBalam707 Yes, Mexican-Americans should be proud of our heritage. Yes, we should teach our children spanish. Yes, we should preserve our traditions like quinceaneras, pinatas, and tres reyes. But we are above all Americans first! All these people who talk about "reconquista" should go and live in Mexico! We had nothing in Mexico! The cattle were better off than us! Mexico was mordelones, corrupt patrulleros, greedy landowners, and crooked courts! Be glad we are Mexican-Americans!

  • @EkBalam707 Hey, what about Central American... or South American or from the America islands? Yes! Feel proud to speak a European language!

  • The hispanics I grew up with were like these people. There were no gangs and crime like today. We would go to olvera st at least once a month after visiting the La museum.

  • You notice at the video 5:50 the mexican kids how they get humiliated by trowing change in the floor like animals, and how the life for many Mexicans kids how the government where treating them unfair allowing them to work polishing shoes that's why there where gangs like barrios recruiting kids like those in LA

  • @TheFableLookingGlass The mexican Kids are having fun! I noticed it, they are just having fun and playing.

Throwing coins is an old game loved by children. El Volo, is a tradition used in Los bautizos.

Your comment is your own opinion and it only shows your ignorance, prejudice and sourness.

    LOL

You are jealous and envious at Mexicans and Mexican history, culture, and identity in Los Angeles!

    LOL

    loser!

  • @EkBalam707 jelous of what of mexican culture, your are the big ignorant cuz you dont even know me and your given stupid opinions im mexican american duch bag. LOL. And for the other coment el volo is a traditoin use for the bautizoz come on man dont be that stupid this kids are not involve in a bautizo, they are working polishing shoes and some boody is trowing coins and thats is sad to see even if the kids are happy, sad becouse it harder to survive in 1937 for a mexican or mexican decent,

  • I think this was taken in the early thirties judging by the American women's clothes. Also, why was it the 'trend' to pronounce a hard 'g' when saying An'g'eles as if saying Los "Angle us" That cracks me up! LOL!

  • So funny to see a swastika like that in 1937... oh how the view of that has changed.

  • Ugh his Spanish.

  • @Joe402 atleast he is trying

  • Yeah I know.

  • Thanks for posting this. Its always interesting to look back and see how things use to be.

  • i bet they never would have expected one day an austrian american governor or a mexican american mayor . it takes time for prejudices to change. that is before hitler, the swastika. who could have ever imagined! there is a phrase, about the writing on the wall, but who could have known?

  • Actually L.A. by that time had long been overwhelmingly white. Even during the short time it belonged to Mexico, L.A. was just a backwater and here was hardly anyone out here, Mexican or otherwise.

I'm sure you have nothing but contempt for "Anglos" though.

  • @ONKlub most mexicans that were here during those times where of mostly european descent

  • what seen as a swastika , is indeed a gammedon, from a sanskrit aryan symbol of wishing good luck. Origin has been postulated as four limbs as a congress in a sexual sense as seen from above. Takes a bit of a stretch of imagination tho.

  • It is a swastika, but what is seen evil for some people, it's not for other people. The Swastika was indeed an Aryan symbol for the Sun god. Iranian, Persian, or Hindu people never condemned the use of the symbol. And it's correct, the word derives from Sanskrit and it means "Good luck".

Just to take in consideration: In 1937, Nazi Germany was still in power.

You can see what ever yo want to see.

It's an historic video of L.A. ( La ciudad mas mexicana en los EE.UU.)

    Saludos señor!

  • Yes, the Nazis were in power, but it would be hard to see this particular swastika as any sort of statement referencing the Germans. WWII wouldn't start for another two years and the U.S. wouldn't even enter that war for another four!

This would be no different than me putting up a poster on my wall today that contained a symbol that just happened to resemble the symbol for the New Zealand National Party. If you're scratching your head about how this makes no sense, then I've proven my point.

  • If you visit Los Angeles, you must see Olvera St.

It is really worth your time and the memories, pictures and movies you will have of this early part of L.A. will be amazing.

If you have never been to L.A. before, then you should take a bus tour that includes Olvera St.

You will learn more that way and won't get lost.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

  • Actually it was the Spanish who 'founded' California. The city of LA was basically created by white mid-westerners who came to the area in the mid-19th Century-bought up Spanish ranchos and created the various cities that make upo So Cal. The cities architecture, street names etc. etc. were transplanted directly from the midwest and US eastcoat. The Spanish side of my family settled the San Gabriel Valley in the 1840s- La Familia Garfias. My Anglo side came in 1870.

  • lastuvidaboy, we are all human, we all have a heart, 2 lungs, 2 feet and hands, skin is a organ we all have to protect us all from bacteria and viruses. Hitler and America, tried and tries to convince us all otherwise. Don't be suckered in to all of this stupidity. Think a moment.

  • @lasuvidaboy all the founder of california and LA were from the west coast of Mexico, there were also a few spanish

  • Notice how they called them streatcars and the didn't say Eighteen-twenty for example, they said eighteen-hundrud twenty. wow it has really changed! And by the way the sighn at 2:30 means "no nazis" there is another Synboyl above also.

  • Spanish was widely spoken in Los Angeles( Misión San Gabriel)and rest of California State.

Language is a cultural value inherent to any nation in the world. But unfortunately, the Anglo "Kultur-Krieg" in Los Angeles targeted our Mexican roots, heritage, and cultural values..That's why the Californian identity have had changed so fast since the western expansion of the US borders.

  • soft speakin olive skin guys.... wow ,what a legacy bestowed.

  • mmmmm, taquitos there deliciuos, pero mas los de escamoles

  • Is that a swastica on the brick wall at 2:30?

  • Yes it is.

Hard to believe eh? If you review your world history, you will check that in 1937, Nazi Germany was still in power.

  • Yes, however I was not aware of Nazi supporters here in the United States, apart from our Ambassador to Britain, Joseph P. Kennedy. Perhaps it is an Anti-Nazi message.

  • Locobuick....the Spanish civil war was raging in 1937. The Nazis were big supporters of the Spanish fascists. I think the Swastika is probably a gesture of support to the Spanish Fascists from an Hispanic community. Just a thought!!

  • That could very well be true. I have begun to research this a bit. Some say we used the symbol here as a good luck charm and were ignorant of it's use by Nazis in'37.

  • The swastika is a symbol that was used by many cultures throughout history. It is a sun symbol and a portent of good fortune. In this context it would have been used mostly by Indian people (from India). The traditional swastika rotated in the opposite direction from the Nazi swastika!

  • if you rotate the red circle around it about 45 degrees it becomes the symbol for no or "against". i think its an anti nazi and anti axis power symbol. im assuming it's that symbol in the upper section. i could be wrong.

  • Amazing!

  • Old L.A. fascinates me. How it grew from a tiny pueblo to what it is now is amazing.

  • It´s something most Americans ignore, Los Angeles like the rest of California were founded by Mexicans

  • Good Video! Los Angeles was and still is a great place in America!!!!!!

  • Oh, shit, they throw the kids money for diversion!

  • Great film. It really is a historical document. Glad to see that you saved it. Do you have many more? You should document as many as you can.
