It might well be to you but मेरे हिन्दी निकम्म सारा है। I can read and write Devanagari all right - along with the Sanskrit conjuncts - and a lot of the words are similar to Punjabi words but it is the small words that join the others together in a sentence to make it make sense - the it that this and so on.
In Punjabi, ख & घ, छ & झ, ठ & ढ, थ & ध, फ & भ have the same sound pairs (like ख and घ [ਖ - ਘ]) but the latter has a raised pitch. Is Hindi tonal like that?

There seems like very little difference between several consonants. I think I heard Ka Da Ga and Ja about 15 times!

@canaan1967 Yeah, there is 4 da, 4 ta, 2 ga, 2 ja etc. They are pronounced slightly different. For example, there is ka and kha, ja and jha, ta and tha, da and dha etc. Looks confusing but it's simple once you know the drill.
