That's just phenomenal. You're such a talented artist, and a young one at that. I like to draw myself and I thought I was pretty good for my age until I saw how old you were. Man, I'm not going to lie, I'm actually a tiny bit jealous. :P
Dude... I can draw and all... but actual people? No way. I admire this. Looking pretty good. -coughnotetoself,stealhisawesometalentwhichisfarsuperiortomyowncough- ಠ_ಠ
i like to draw freehand better, one i used a grid, and it took to long. bvut i guess your like the most patient person in the world, spending a rear and a half on that project in animation, that cool.
Did you take art courses to be able to draw this well or is this through experience and practice? I always loved your drawings and animation! XD Thank you for posting another awesome video!
@klFiretears i know, just cracking a joke. Also, I got to say, u deserve praise for your animations! COntinue the work! Great sound, voice, music, effects, and overall animation! Your really talented
@klFiretears Using such a grid is practically the same as tracing. there's absolutely no skill involved with drawing like that. the only skill in this video is shading.. don't you want to draw freehand?
@tomvanharmelen Are you implying that I cannot draw freehand? For your information, using the grid is absolutely not the same as tracing. The purpose of a grid is so the artist can focus on the lines and details of specific isolated areas in the image. The purpose of a grid is so that the artist does not trace. Furthermore, drawing with the guidance of a grid is not easy, coming from experience. For you to believe that drawing with a grid requires no skill whatsoever is quite ignorant.
@klFiretears To add to your comment. Without using some kind of guide, the picture will usually come out odd looking and distorted. My art teacher taught me how to draw people by using your pencil to do the sizing and spacing like a ruler.
@klFiretears Actually, drawing with a grid is A LOT easier than doing it by eye and guessing where the lines are and how the proportions translate from picture to hand to paper.
Not realizing that using a grid turns drawing freehand by skill into an almost mathematical process is rather ignorant from you. if you look at a square in the grid and compare it to the same square in the picture, you can easily decide that, for example, line 1 starts at 1/3rd of the top line and angles to the left
@tomvanharmelen side of the square, which makes it a lot easier to draw those lines because you dont have to use your own skill of seeing how the shapes and lines are placed compared to eachother.
So yes, being able to visually see where lines are placed on a grid IS IN FACT easier than having to see the placement in your mind without any visual comparable reference.
@tomvanharmelen I did not say that drawing with a grid is any more difficult than drawing freehand. What I am arguing against is your claim that drawing with a grid requires no skill and is just a "mathematical process". It's almost as if you are saying that math itself is not a skill. Artists use math constantly for composition and proportion. So are you implying that using math is cheating in art?
@klFiretears@rinrik no its not about who has more talent or whatever, what I'm saying is that art takes skill in the form of translating things from view to paper by sight alone, not by using a grid to get it right, look at the user cgsbgs on youtube, that should explain what I mean about the difference. by using a grid, you get an accurate drawing proportionally and all that WITHOUT actually thinking about where to place the lines, because having that grid already shows you where to put them
@tomvanharmelen And about your description about the usage of the grid.
" if you look at a square in the grid and compare it to the same square in the picture, you can easily decide that, for example, line 1 starts at 1/3rd of the top line and angles to the left "
Is that not the same as drawing without a grid? It still requires the keen eye to draw the lines within the grid; you are still recreating the lines on the paper as you do when you draw without it.
@klFiretears so that explains why it takes less effort into getting it to look right compared to drawing without a grid. also, the comparison with construction by using rulers and math isn't quite applicable to what im saying because you have to use math and rulers in that field of work because they prevent mistakes and you HAVE to be precise.
Art is different in the fact that the skill and talent is shown through proper hand eye coordination and rulers are not NECESSARY.
@tomvanharmelen The sole reason why I use the grid is for accuracy. If I were to draw Kiera freehand, I wouldn't have bothered to choose a photo with unnecessary detail. Here, it's not about originality, it's reproduction of the photograph in a larger scale. I'm not focusing on the drawing, I am focusing on the technique. Why else would I record myself shading the portrait? The purpose of the video is to show the process of my technique, not how I draw.
@tomvanharmelen Moreover, I do not understand why you are objective of me using a grid. I've never used a grid before, and I will continue to be accurate if I have to. But the fact remains that I am still learning, and there are NO limitations to how to go about learning to draw, whether it is the usage of photo references, a ruler or a grid.
dude, using a grid or not does not take away the fact that she is talented, people have their own way and own personal ways of doing things you cant say just because she used a grid its less artistic then if she didn't. you need to get your definition of art sorted dude :/
@tomvanharmelen What you are implying is that an artist should not use a grid for proficiency. Let's make an analogy. It is similar to stating that construction workers are cheating when they use rulers and math to constuct a building using a blueprint. Why do they have measurements? For accuracy.
@klFiretears I am a terrible artist (unlike my older brother who if he practiced a ton would still be a few notches below you). Anyways I took an art course last semester and grids are very helpful for basic forms and proportions and outlines but when there is a decent amount of detail it requires a lot more skill. With this considering the INSANE amount of detail this requires top notch skill like the top 1-2% out there
@tomvanharmelen Um...using a grid has absolutely NOTHING to do with tracing. klFiretears used it so that he makes sure that he uses correct proportions and locate specific details of something. So there's no need for you to try and act like a smart ass, I don't see anything this good on your channel...
