  • Damn, that bitch is loud. I just built a system (waiting on 2 parts-SSD and wi-fi PCI card) and installed an XFX 7970 in mine. Although I've heard they are ridiculous, even compared to CrossFired 6900 series.

  • Epic lotion placement. Graz ^^

  • lol anyone else notice the bottle of lotion?

  • @Coolbri1191 "Citrus Apple" scented lol

  • @Coolbri1191 For fapping, perhaps?

  • @SuperStrive60 Hahaha nope I've got some good shit for that, hands get really dry in the winter! Fapping's alright but sex is much better :)

  • @Coolbri1191 screw the lotion im eyein those raising son, im hungry as hell haha

  • Okay then. I just figgured that it would be really good to have because my nephew Jonathan said that a friend told him that any thing that's good for gaming is twice as good for every thing else. So I just thought applying that logic, what the hell, this will be twice the best Media Center card ever.

  • So, would you say it's a no go for home theater? Some one told me I was insaine for thinking of using it just for that, but I want the best of the best, and the only reason I don't game is because I can't see. But yeah, would this effect your abillity to hear really suttle noises in a movie? Or would this noise not even be a question in watching Blu-Ray disks.

  • @MrHamit64 I don't think it would be too loud at all on auto fan speeds, but I'd recommend something like the HIS Silence HD 6450 2GB for a home theater setup because of the low power consumption and lack of a fan, but it will still do great with HD videos and such. HD 7970 is purely a gamer's card, highest performance out of any single-gpu currently and I've still never encountered a game it struggles with.

  • Wow! it sounded a bit like a vacume cleener. It's pretty loud. Or is your mike kind of sencitive?

  • @MrHamit64 My mic is pretty sensitive, but you're right it sounds like a very small vacuum haha

  • What kinda temps do you get on auto? cause i am going to get my income tax any day now,and am shopping for a 7970.

  • @trainergames Ambient is 74.8F or so in my room right now, card idled at 38C @ 20% fan speed, after an hour of Battlefield 3 there was a max temp of 76C (which surprised me) and max fan speed of 41%. Bit warm in my room right now. It probably would've stayed a little cooler with more airflow on it, I need to wash my dust filters for the front intake fans haha. My old HD 4890 used to full load at 80C+ with 45% manual fan speed so this isn't too bad!

  • The Core Edition is way louder that the Black Edition. It's the only reason I went for the Black Edition. Good thing is they rarely ever go that high anyways.

  • @Drebln893 Is it really? And I know mine never spins up to audible levels on auto. I don't mind the noise though, I have 5.1 speakers and I'm always listening to music or gaming with them pretty loud. And I bought the card the day they came out, it was damn near impossible to find any in stock, I was F5'ing the Newegg page until I saw one finally come in stock and hopped on that shit before it sold out which it did 10 minutes later haha.

  • @jessehalloween ....looool....OMG, I thought I was the only one that does that. I did the same thing to the overclockers dot co dot uk website. I planned on getting a second if I liked the card, which I do. But they are sold out now. AMD released a beast of a card I have to admit, even tho I tend to be biased and favour Nvidia. The 7970's are from another world. Come to think of it, these are just the early versions, imagine what's to come when people liquid cool these 8-O

  • @Drebln893 Hahah damn Crossfire that'd be nice let me know when you get a second. I figure I will one day but for now I'm just running a single 1920x1080 monitor and I can max out anything and everything without the card even breaking a sweat! Ah man I can't wait the temps are gonna be so cool, and from the overclocks I've seen on air this thing goes far, with a good waterblock these things will be pushed to some incredible speeds! Wish I could afford a nice watercooling setup.

  • Its kinda hard to tell. Theres lots of airflow (=noise) in your case, so its hard to tell what noise is made by the card ad what does your case fans...

    Anyway thx for the upload.

  • @Cone419 Haha I know, my case fans blow a good amount of air. I can't hear the 7970 over my case fans until 50% and it isn't disturbing until 60% just to give you an idea. In a case with quieter fans, I'd say it would become audible around 40% but still not really annoying until 55-60%. Thanks for the comment!

  • Yes, above 50 to 60% it becomes to noisy, left at it default its nice and quiet. Best leave it at its default setting and allow it to wind itself up to find its own speed dependent on load. I'm getting the oc xfx black version in a few weeks when I have sold this rig, and am buying the bits for my next PC.

  • @Puzzoozoo Hell yeah I leave it on auto fan speed unless I'm overclocking for benchmarks, and it stays quiet! Good shit upload some videos when you get it!
