yeah. I can memorize tenor music fairly quickly, but I FLY through snare music, because it's just piss easy to sight read.

I'm trying to become pro at sight reading tenors, though too (i've truly never been able to accurately sight read a lengthy tenor book straight on the spot). Just the technical parts with the drum changes make it difficult.

I have seen other people sight read tenor music that they've never seen before though, so i know it's possible. I just need to figure out the secret.

Get familiar with your rhythms & rudiments. It may not sound like knowing rudiments is necessary to be good at reading as opposed to being good at playing, but honestly, it's just as important because if you know how to play everything, and how to read/notate what you play, then sight reading becomes 10X easier. Just like the more rudiments you know, the more music you'll be able to play? Well the more rhythms you're familiar with, than the easier you can sight read anything you run into.
