If the Imperials stomp out the Stormcloaks, they might beat the Elves. If Ulfric wins, without the Imperials Skyrim will be taken over by the Elves. @poolranger66 if you follow the rebel soldier you can get some heavy armor before you leave, but if you follow the imperial you can get some two-handed weapons, other then that you might get better item's in riverwood if you follow the rebel but i don't really know.

@poolranger66 they have you do all the main story quest's in whiterun before the assault on it, and after the battle you can go back in, but you will want to do the main quest thalmor embassy before you join the stormcloaks, after you do some rebel quest's the thalmor will attack you on sight

@eragonkill22 I'm not sure that many people realized that they could follow Ralof. I sure as hell didn't know when I first played. I was busy trying to escape the dragon. It wasn't until after I had already entered the keep with Hadvar, that I noticed it said "Enter the Keep with Hadvar OR Ralof."
