I had Marshall Major, lost 'em. Looking to buy new cans asap. I mostly listen to trash/heavy metal. Would also use them with my electric drum kit. Would you recommend Sennheiser HD 25-1 II or Beyerdynamic DT1350?
@JimBeamRulz I just did a blind test with the HD650 cable, and with the HD25-1 stock cable, and actually guessed the stock cable as the HD650 cable. So just stick to the stock cable.
if you wnat headphone's with great bass and amazing sound quality, go for the ''Marley Positive Vibration'' Headphone's well worth the money, they are great for all area's in music, such as pop, hip hop, rock, metal, dubstep, DnB, and all the dubstep sub genre's, they are perfect for everyday use and will not break on you i own a pair and don't regret paying $70 dollar's for them (:
Hi, would you recommend the V-Moda M80 over these for general music listening and some music producing? And congrats, truly admire your work! Greetings from Brazil
@pdrfurtado The HD 25 and the M80 are roughly similar in ability. The M80 has a mellower, recessed treble, the HD 25 is the opposite with its aggressive, emphasized treble. I think Tyll prefers the M80 over the HD 25, though I would pick the opposite for my taste. The HD 25 has a pretty good, linear midrange, if recessed, for voice recording. I don't actually own the M80, don't know how they would hold up in a pro environment.
hy ... please ...can you make a review on ALLEN & HEATH XD-53 ? or AIAIAI TMA 1 ? everybody praise them but I want a professional review as you managed to do for other headphones ... well ... we really thank you. youare very helpful
@jeremywusoccer They're two completely different types of headphones, apples and oranges. You should pick by how your going to use them. HD 25-1 II is sealed for isolation, it's a good headphone for drummers, dj, and working with them on because they're very stable on the head. The 598 is open and don't isolate you from noise, so they're good for uses around the home and office.
@InnerFidelity How would you compare the audio quality though? I won't be bringing them outside often, but its nice to have the option. Im looking for the best sounding headphones for a variety of genres. If the 598s sound better than the hd 25s, than im probably going to get those because portability isnt my first priority
Literally no leakage on low volumes, on high listening volumes very small leakage, but still good enough to use in a library or some other quiet place.
@OriginalMindTrick Nope. Differences are too small to measure with these methods. There are ways to measure cables alone ... even there the differences are very small. Significant amounst of snake oil here, but I have heard differences between cables.
I got a good deal on the adidas pair. For $200 they are absolutely phenomenal for my music (i'm a metalhead) I also own some alessandro ms1 and some shure srh840. I prefer the hd25 1 ii more then those others.
I bought these headphones a year ago, and they are hands down the best investment I have ever made when it comes to electronic equipment. I will use them for the rest of my life with 100% certainty.
Yes these are a very old pair of Aviator headphones, unfortunately they have not seen much use recently as they need some more work on them, i tried to use them for dj'ing and after not such a long while the band came away from the cup. Now the speakers have lost their connection again so time to try some more soldering on them and patch them up with some gaffa. I think i'll go for a pair of HD 25-1 II's for djing although Allen heath 53's look great, & the pioneer hdj 2000 look indestructible
There are a few things that would concern me with these, one is the little plugs where you plug the replacement cable, i had problems with these same plugs on an old set of Aviators, finally i soldered the cable straight to the speakers. I can't remember exactly now but i think i've had a problem with ear pads coming off on an old set of these whilst borrowing some during a dj set, has anyone else experienced this?
@izzzzzz6 How long ago was that? If it's more than about 8 years, there were problems with the little springs that the prongs on the cable slide into. The springs loosen up and became intermittent. They've since went to a stronger spring and the problem seems to have gone away.
hey inner fidelity, fantastic reviews, keep up the great work! could you review the xones xd-53s? im about to buy new dj hps and are undecided between what seems to be the two bes: xd-53s and these sd-25s
I've been watching alot of your reviews and I think they are just fantastic and very handy and interesting. Thanks for all the info, but I have a quick question. What would you recommend, the hd 25 1-ii, or the dt 1350s?
Hey, Tyll. I'm looking to buy the HD25-1's, but I don't think I'll be able to buy a new cable for it. Might I just look at a different pair of cans since I've heard so much about the infamous steel cable?
@KawaiiKyle The HD650 cable was only marginally smoother than the stock. I wouldn't let the steel cable bother you ... it's certainy not bothering the electrons much.

Would you recommend the Sennheisers over M-80 to a rock music listener? The genres are britpop, indie rock, punk, and hard rock.
Also, I'd like to have the best isolation.

Also have you seen any difference in the graphs between "audiophile" HD-650/800/LCD-2 etc cable and stock cable?
