I heard this song first on Madden, and I thought then that it was about tv even though that's sort of obvious, but there are plenty of things people get addicted to that can control them and paralyze them. It's just that he most obvious metaphor for a box that controls how you live and what you do and that takes away your voice is television. On the other hand, Lupe is known to go deeper than that and the instrumental of this song is darker than just for a complaint about the media.
