I'm 13 years old and plan on serving in the Australian Navy when I'm older. It's been pretty much what I've been planning since I was like 3. My Uncle was an officer at HMAS Albatross down at Nowra working on the helicopters. My Grandfather was in the US Navy & a Brig. General in the Filipino Army. My Dad served on HMAS Perth (DDG) and HMAS Newcastle (FFG). It's in my blood, and it's awesome (:
Yeah yeah.. been there done that. The marketing makes it sound so great and you will be important n special n all that. Absolute croc of shit. U'll be treated like shit!!! Hence why they are so desperate for ppl to join.. becaus their sailors are leaving in droves.. straight to the mines!!! Ofcourse in a war the army will always come first but the navy is always active
Twenty years serving in this outfit and while I cant say every bloke I've met has been a champion I can say every day has been a privilege because of the champions I have met.

Why would you say such a thing? Australia and The United States are very close allies and have been since World War 1. What you said only makes us Australians stereotype Americans as obese, fast food eating, red neck yanks. So in the interest of your country, I would watch my mouth if I were you.
There has not been any English convicts sent to Australia since the 1850s. Many of them that were sent here did very well for themselves, they prospered economically and became pillars of society. There were a lot more opportunities here than there were back in England. Why do you think most of them stayed here once they had served their sentence?
There is no such thing as an "AEGIS class destroyer".
AEGIS refers to the combat system. Ships with the AEGIS combat system include the USN Ticonderoga class and the Arleigh Burke class, and the future RAN AWDs.
The Australian economy is very strong dollar is nearly one to one US dollars, why don't Australia purchase some AEGIS class destroyers and Cruisers to make its outnumbered navy stronger?
@FeelFree3 Becuase we don't need a stronger navy. We just need it strong enough to be the major military force in the region, which means have a better navy than indonesia and the pacific states. Not exactly hard. Besides, the navy has a serious personnel shortage atm, we only have enough people to keep one of our four submarines crewed at any given time. No point buying more ships if you don't have people to crew them.
@australianfastbowler But one AEGIS class destroyer have much more defence power than one lower class destroyer that Australian navy is using, so if Australian navy is outnumbered to neighbour countries for example Indonesia than it should choose AEGIS class destroyer, because the same number of crew can bring out more denfence power.
Imagine if Australia was ever invaded!Great Britain would destroy the enemy of Oz and be there!Australia knows that if anyone threatens them, the UK would be there totally, then the USA would follow!
You are correct, there are several other coastal cities in Australia. But Sydney is home to the East Coast Fleet (larger than the FBW fleet), Sydney is the most populous city and NSW is the most populous state. Plenty of US navy ships come into Sydney every year. Not so many British ships.

BTW the Royal Australian Navy is the BEST navy in the world. and not only australians says that americans wont cuz there cocky =P
Mmmm fair dinkum mate, the USN would have our navy for brekky and still be starved for action. They'd finish the RAN in about five minutes. Let's not be too cocky ourselves. USN: Over 350,000 personnel. RAN: 13,000 personnel. USN: 9 CVN-68 Nimitz Super Carriers 55+ DDG-51IIA Destroyers 30+ CG-47 Cruisers 20+ FFG-7 Frigates 50+ SSN Los Angeles Nuclear subs 4+ SSGN Connecticut nuclear subs 14 SSBN Ohio nuclear ballistic missile subs. Then there's the Amphib/ USMC support sealift vessels.
ur right i look at it this way for our size we are one of the most capable and more than pull our wait and i think we are equal with the usa when it come to training and tactics but not fire power because of our small size
@kaidalen Nuh mate. When you do the Aptitude you qualify for jobs in the army navy and air force. I Did mine in January and qualified for jobs in each. so the aptitude is the same but i think the assesment day is because they ask different questions because as you could imagine navy is alot different from army.
@kaidalen Many people in the US navy admit it. In a straight war they would win through sheer numbers, but no naval military has the same level of training that our sailor recieve, and our clearance divers are among the most elite special forces in the world.
@kaidalen The Aptitude is a general test you sit for any defence job. Navy Army, Airforce. The outcome of this test which is not a pass or fail, will determine which jobs your suited to. you'll get a print out, Some jobs may need you to be good at puzzle solving for example while others more hands on/technical. depending what job your going for you may need to sit another aptitude test later on. The aptitude test is valid for 12 months
@kaidalen Its all the same. You'll do one test and then see the careers bloke who'll tell you what you might be good at or what you might like out of all the defence jobs.
@kaidalen I can tell you exactly as I am joining myself.
The YOU session is exactly the same as Army and Air Force. You will find there'll be a group of about 20 people at the same time doing it. Its very simple.
It's after the YOU session that things get different. Depending on the job and position you are applying for there may be extra testing.
iam going for my assessment day soon , is the physical, beep test hard at all.. and wen u go for your medical is it true ur gana hav ur testes examined??
I just had my Assessment day mate, you dont actually have the Physical till way later on...........haha and yes you will have you balls cupped while coffing
1000 miles away was much more effective and moving. This one seems like a poor attempt to re-write that one. Although it is a fairly accurate video, even shows a duty watch muster. If only it could depict how much fun 6 hour gangway watches are :)
Thanks very much for all your help and comments, I am about to do my assessment day on the 18th of Dec (Electronics technician) Can anyway give me any tips?? Is it as hard as people make out it is?
Category (job training) school is hard, with a higher than normal dropout rate, but the job is one of the best you can have on a ship, because you don't have to stand night watches.
BS markflorian, I just watched a USN add and it was a jingoistic glorifying crock. This was much more down to earth and showed more of the human face of the service without glorifying it, like the replenishment in rougher seas footage, etc, but it still made it look appealing. I thought the ad was actually a bit touching.
I'm reapplying for the RAN in december, and I'll be honest... this video... has just re-amped my enthusiasm! lol had you going there! :p but seriously excellent video! and to whoever said it was a joke(didnt read that far) but dude, kiss my patriotic australian arse! XD God bless australia, we're not perfect, but we're pretty good anyway!
Why don't you change countries than? Seriously, changing countries in the year 2009 is easy, that their is no excuse to have to live in one when it allows you the right to leave.
So please, leave Australia, and take your imaginary friend with you (Allah). Don't hit yourself on the way out.
Australia, united with the coalition forces are helping locals in Afghanistan from the Taliban, the ADF also defend people like you and people like you don't appreciate it!
if you dont like Australia thats fine but to say you hate it on my home soil and to say that our military and navy is a joke then why dont you fuck off out of our proud nation
@Rasverix82 Ok your address and what state and I should be glassing your face soon :) CUNT YOU LIVE IN A LUCKY FUCKEN COUNTRY AND YOU GOT THE GUTS TO SAY THAT! GO LIVE IN IRAQ OR SOME OTHER FUCKED UP POVERTY COUNTRY YOU FUCK! Bet your a fucken foreigner to!
I am a 33 year old male who is about join the Navy, will be doing an Electronics technician Apprenticeship, can anyone tell me if the Navy is worth joining,.....and at my age???
mate their is even older people in the navy doing that exact same trade....id say its worth it....im currently doing my training for marine technician and their is some guys i work with who are 30 and up...we all enjoy our work and the benefits that follow you would be silly not to join..
We have bought a Amphibious landing craft. but thats for helicopters, Later on down the track although the Navy not considering it now, but there have been talk about the Australian Navy purchusing some F-35s for them, all they will use the RAAFs ones
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Navy loses its better people to the RAAF... all the fucken rejects stay in grey. Anybody considering joining the ADF forget the Navy & Army altogether.
lol TCfan most probably got discharged because no liked him and he sucked at what he did. and only the Air Force would let him join with special considerations
well i guess you woudn't want to be 40-50 and be a sailor told what to do by a 24 year old Officer, so i guess you either leave or you go for a commision.
Been wanting to join the navy since I was 10, even though my parents don't really support my decision. I've decoded though :) great vid

bennnification 2 years ago
Waayyyyyyyy less, haha. Imagine what the RAN could do with more, like say:
4 Canberra LHDs (instead of 2)
8 AW Destroyers (instead of 3-4)
16 ASW Frigates (instead of 8)
16 Littoral Combat Ships
16 SSGK submarines (instead of 12 on the drawing board, which is still a major leap
for the RAN. Fingers crossed that the government delivers all 12 with full capability).
& a major recruiting push, with a decent flotilla that might actually attract the crews necessary+ a decent slice of the GDP.

Squall876 2 years ago
Category (job training) school is hard, with a higher than normal dropout rate, but the job is one of the best you can have on a ship, because you don't have to stand night watches.
enghave 2 years ago

BS markflorian, I just watched a USN add and it was a jingoistic glorifying crock. This was much more down to earth and showed more of the human face of the service without glorifying it, like the replenishment in rougher seas footage, etc, but it still made it look appealing. I thought the ad was actually a bit touching.

Explain?
SCVideoProductions 2 years ago
Why don't you change countries than? Seriously, changing countries in the year 2009 is easy, that their is no excuse to have to live in one when it allows you the right to leave.
So please, leave Australia, and take your imaginary friend with you (Allah). Don't hit yourself on the way out.
Regards

LiwamGeebon 2 years ago
Sorry, It's not true?
We have no reason to buy one.
We have bought a Amphibious landing craft. but thats for helicopters, Later on down the track although the Navy not considering it now, but there have been talk about the Australian Navy purchusing some F-35s for them, all they will use the RAAFs ones

Navy loses its better people to the RAAF... all the fucken rejects stay in grey. Anybody considering joining the ADF forget the Navy & Army altogether.

Can someone tell me where i can get an Australian Royal Navy flag,i want to fly it from my flag pole in England.
BAYCITYROLLERBOY 2 years ago
Royal Australian Navy,maybe ebay lol
014649 2 years ago
You cannot purchase the White Ensign. Its illegal to have only commissioned ships and establishments are allowed to fly it.
Albany425 2 years ago
just out of interest how come theres no old guys in the video? If you join as a young guy what happens when your in your late 40's? Do most leave?
sheetbug 2 years ago
well i guess you woudn't want to be 40-50 and be a sailor told what to do by a 24 year old Officer, so i guess you either leave or you go for a commision.
