  • A conehead!

  • whats the name of the song?

  • @darksolz

it's the song "My name" by Lhasa ( de Sela ) from the album "The living road"

  • @mcasual thank you mcasual i love Lhasa now =) , btw your video help me with my model for my rigging class

  • А ДЫРКА для чего??? lol

  • Nice techniqe!

  • A knight 2:08

  • hey

  • nice work mr jaques. woot!!!!

  • Very nice work :) She is sexy!

  • hey i like this vid and the music grows on you lol

but i hav e one question how r u attaching the verdicys like the neck to the head ?

  • @mobster725

in maya by holding sown the V key as you move a vertex around it will snap to the nearest vertex

later you can select 2 vertices and do a

    'edit polygons / merge vertices'

  • m_) hey that's not fair. 20% was never shown how you made it...

and it would be nice to walk me through a bit....

oh well, great video anyway and great song.

    m_) thanks for sharing.

  • song name?

  • it's "my name" by Lhasa ( de Sele ) on the album "The living road" ( she died recently at only 28 ) There's "Con toda palabras" from her that i like most - the video is probably still on youtube

  • @mcasual Thanks a lot!!!

  • Lhasa de Sela

  • how long did this take?

  • the head without the face maybe 20 minutes

the face itself maybe an hour

but that's just the base , then you can work hours and days until it looks acceptable

the eyelids the inside of the mouts the ears, ... hours

  • @mcasual thankU4 the answe.

  • nice! Check out my chanel for time lapse/speed modeling videos!

  • yea thats true .. You might have problems if you try to animate this character.

I dont recommend working this way

  • noob question how did u get teh backround face?

  • in Maya

sel the current camera to front view

    then do View/Image Plane/Import image

  • nice...

  • never seen that approach before...interesting

  • good work on this but I recommend you to buy an anatomy book to learn where are the muscle at on a human face. That way your head will look more realistic

  • thanks, if you youtube-search for | mcasual musique | you can see a series of videos i made while trying to get better looking faces - i was never good at human modeling , but some of the "musique" heads came out not too scary :)

  • man is blender hard to use i have trouble all the time

  • why is that sometimes people have polys that look like squares ( [ ] ) and other have a pine through ( [/] ) ??? and how to you switch between... also, how do i 100% reset maz without reinstalling??? (NOT file > REsET)

  • rosshildick I think sometimes that it is just a matter of choice whether you use triangles([/]) instead of faces([]). The only reason I know why people use triangles is because some games I know of need triangulated faces instead of 4 sided polies.

  • HI, m love 2 c this video... this is the very esy way 2 learn face model 4 d new users.. thnx...

  • is maya as easy as it looks (i use wings 3d but its kinda not so good for making people)?

  • i find it the easiest to use, but maybe i didnt try other programs long enough. For free you can get modtool from SoftImage, it's a slightly less powerful version of Softimage if i'm not mistaken. Then there's Blender3d which is free, a bit hard to start to learn, but there's tons of video tutorials for it on youtube, and with it you can do everything, a whole movie with special effects.

  • hmmm....... i have blender but i cant use it but i hear pixar used it (dont know if its true) i havent tried modtool but i may give it a go thx

  • I Use maya as the first program I ever learned in my whole life and yes its rly to use I use all my tools with my mouse ... u just need to get used to it and learn all tools ....but its an awsome program...at first I was like omg there is way too many tools but with the time ull know them...anyway u can cheak out on piratebay(dot)org I got mine there

  • hey probounder xxx i decided to try maya so i downloaded the demo and i can't get it to run do you know anywere i can find a working trial?

  • you probably can get the trial on their site web

just type maya autodesk on google

the trial will let you able to use it for 30 days. If u are a student and want it for 12months its like 100$ or something like that or if u dont feel like to pay type piratebay on google and download it

  • hey, i have the trial now so thx for your help but if i din't want to pay i wouldn't use pirate bay i would use rapid library and get a keygen or a crack lol but anyway thx

oh yea, how would i get a pic like that into maya (the head)?

  • o its ok I used pirate bay for years and never got problem thats why lol

anyway about the head u sould get a real head instead of the head this guy using bec it will improve greatly ur skills

go on google and type 3d head reference

in maya just make 2 basic plane and then make 2 new lambert and double click on it and then put the side view and then on the other lambert put ur front view and then ajust both planes and then u can work ;)

  • k thx you are really helpfull thx again and thx again

  • i have been trying maya but can't seem to use it so i had another look at 3ds max (i have the full version) and i actually found it easy. they are almost the same, there are a few differences but only a few :D

  • Because I had a project with programmers I had to use 3dsMax ._. and I can tell you there is some tools better in 3smax but sometimes ur looking for something rly simple but can only be done in maya ... :/

  • Comment removed

  • kinda looks like maya

  • 'tis

  • omg awsume... how did you learn how to use anim8or like that

  • thanks ! but it's not anim8or but anim8or could get the same results. if you're looking for free 3d modeling programs, there's blender from blender3d..org, it's a bit hard to start learning, but it has everything you need to make movies, search youtube for "elephants dream" it's a short movie done in blender

  • omg, I didn't kno that was done in blender. Cool

  • whats is the name of the command that merges 2 dots???

  • in Maya it's

F3 to bring up the Modeling menus

    then

    "Edit Polygons"/"Merge Vertices"

  • Weld

  • This looks similar to how it's shown in "The Art of Animation Master" ( but I suck at using Animation Master lol)

  • Around 0:54, does he split the cylinder and then extrude half of it?

  • yes split the upper surface of the cylinder then face-extrude the back half

  • you very good i cant even do that how you cut the circle in half

  • XSI mod tool is free I think its better then blender because you model like any commercial tool.

  • i tried the mod tool it's very powerful yes, there's a limit to the number of polygons in the scenes you model, but it's something like 60000, so you can create humans and cars with it

  • 64 000 is extremely easy to make a charactor with were have you been the future?

  • that's what i was saying too, 60000 is enough for humans and cars

  • sorry...i didnt see the comment before:)

  • who sings this?...is superb

  • in blender 3d i model it with a subdivided cube. bloody near impossible to make ears that way, tho.

  • you should make it 100% yourself, that face part was cheating -.-

  • the face was done by me but i didn't record the making-of , if you look in the video-responses i have the video "visage" where i model a face, it's not very good, but in the other video "when Valentina and Musique became one" i was able to make a head and body i liked :)

  • It is not cheating, it is in fact done by many people as a template so it is easier to model it in 3D.

  • What is the song?

  • it's "My Name" by Lhasa

there's many videos for Lhasa on youtube, i'm not sure if she did a music video for "my name"

  • Is this in Autodesk Maya

  • an older alias-maya

    I'll re-make that video in blender3d someday

  • yes it is easyer to make modle in wings but 3dsmax u can do much more it has turbo smooth with smooths your objects and it has simitry so u only have to model half like i can make a car and only model the right side and it copys it to the left

  • The Best one is Blender watch some tutorials

it was hard at first but its easy the best modeling tool ever

  • ok just to say blender is not the best no games are made in blender but if you got the money go get 3ds max 2008 not 2009 its not tht great i have it 2008 rocks i love it ive made so many cars and people and even helped on a game

  • are some games made in 3d max or wings 3d cause i think wings 3d is the easyiedt

  • I think games are made with whatever 3d media can export the right files into the engine. I know Elder Scrolls and prince of persia used 3ds max for the animation, but as far as models go, As long as it's exported in the right format (I think it's probably wavefront obj.) it shouldn't matter.

  • wrong xsi is

  • does anyone know the name of that program whitch is like a black screen with alot of little green squares and you basicly connect each of them and move the view to make a 3d model? my friend use to have it but i dunno the name

  • there's many 3d modelers, here's a few i can remember, spatch hamapatch wings3d milkshape anim8or 3ds max maya lightwave blender bryce - if you google for [ purdydesign 3d ] you can find a list of 3d apps

  • I was told wings3d is best for new people. So Im using that now

  • nice man what program??? i use anim8or

  • he is using blender

  • its not blender.I dont think Ihave blender..idk i could be way wrong

  • nope its maya.

  • wow that was great

how do you get that type of mouse that you are able to select half of it and delete and how do you get the side back just like the other one?

i hope you answer my questions because i am new at blender and i really would like to be good at it

    thanks

  • i did this modeling using maya, so the mouse actions are quite different from blender - i'm not very experienced with Blender but i want to switch to it someday ! :) if you look at blender org you can find the video and web tutorials

  • which program are u using for this?

  • it's Maya but that's too expensive - look for Blender3d, anim8or, Truespace - Truespace recently went free !

  • how did you add the face in?

  • That turned out pretty good, not how I would have done it but your way worked great. I would have just made vertices that bordered the face, connected them, made half of the face, and cloned that, but this worked fine.

  • i modeled it but i didnr record the "making of"

but i have videos titles "visage" where i model a face

  • can wings animate?

  • i almost never used wings, but i opened it a minute ago and did not see anything related to animation -

  • can you send me a mesage tell me what that name of this song is :)

  • not bad, but you need to show more on the face

  • what softwear did you use

  • mcasual..thats good..you're using Maya right..!?that was totally awesome..I'm an animation student..and I really like modelling above any other part animation..I salute you..!

  • Tou should widen the top of the head.

  • very good

  • Looks good, but would animate like crap. One word: Topology.

  • what program u used blender,anim8tor or wings 3d?

  • this is blender

  • None of any freeware 3D applications,it's Maya 3D and it's not cheap

  • where did the face come from at 2:50?

  • in this video i quickly wanted to show how i modeled the part of the head i'm showing - in the video response i posted a video where i model a face - my human modeling skills are not very good, but i'm showing what i do - so the face was imported then stitched, i had not recorded the making of that face unfortunately - around june 2006 i posted many videos where you can see the face structures

  • your good but i hat the music

  • whats the programm that you used for this one though?

  • Maya 5

  • dude where can I get that face image, to work off of?

  • you mean the blue guide lines?

  • yeah, that stillhouse of the face.

  • is all the animating software that you talked about free?

i have just got 3ds max so im not sure about doing heads yet

  • the ones called blender3d and anim8or are free - blender is very complete - on youtube search for 3ds head and you'll find some tutorials - i think 3ds max is so widespread it's a good choice

  • Not a bad method if it gets the job done although its possible you may be doing extra work. Check out Arild Wiro's page for a great tutorial on how to get that edge flow while modeling the whole head and face.

  • dear mcasual, u said "its not how the pros do it".. let me tell you.. you're my pro! thanks for the tutorial

  • hey i liked your video can i no the programme you use im new thanks

  • J'aimerai savoir si il est possible de "joindre" les deux verticles comme tu le fais, mais dans Blender 3D?

  • didnt help much...sry

  • you forgot a pice of neck and eyes

  • Good tutorial dude. I always end up modelling heads in wierd ways lol. Thanks for the upload.

  • welcome, i once saw a pro start with a 3d model of a skull, he quickly built a head around it, then he pretty quickly turned to z-brush to complete it

  • It depend on individual interest ...

If you prefer for the animation creation go for Maya.

If you like to create CG try to go for 3Dsmax.

Note1 : In 3Ds max, user can create pothorealistic in very less time and a few setting !... Maya abit difficult. But the effect rendering still same with both !

Note2 : You can download the trial version for 3Ds max 2009 in Autodesk official web abot 900++ mb. Trial for 30 day !

  • not bad at all, good low poly head. you use blender? never was good at using the interface. whered you get the actual face tho, i have a hard time modelling that.

  • thanks, in other videos i model a face, search youtube for "mcasual visage" . my methods are not too good, just take them as examples of amateur studies. in the series of videos titled "valentina" i was able to make faces that were not too bad :)

  • not bad at all, good low poly head. you use blender? never was good at using the interface. whered you get the actual face tho, i have a hard time modelling that.

  • nice :)

  • umm... where did you get the face? :)

    it kinda poofed in there

    was that visage?

  • nah i did "visage" later. the faces in my tutorial videos are not very good. but in the "valentina" videos, after much work i modeled a face that was kind'of nice :)

  • I dont even know hot to make a 3d shape.. help me!!!!!!!

  • is it maya you're trying to learn? If you want to make 3d images or 3d movies, the fastest and free way, is to go at daz3d dot com and get daz studio, its free and you get a few characters with it, one of which is Aiko - to learn maya correctly the best in my opinion is to get a thick book about learning Maya and read through it.

  • howdy,

Thats what i did, i'm going to learn maya now and 3d studio max later, but i got this nice book called "The Game Artist's guide to MAYA". It takes you through 1 character project and the cd has alot of stuff on it. I haven't had the time to play with it yet but later this summer i will.

Oh' you forgot to mention the learning student version of maya is free, and is it just me or is image blender down?

  • blender3d dot org is still up

  • it was down earlier today when i tried to go***

    :)

  • Oh that is very nice... I'm getting back into using Blender, used to be somewhat ok with it. But after a year, I've completely forgot everything. xD One thing I want to do is sculpt for Second Life :P hehe.

  • hey people im making video tutorials for maya for free 100% there going to be published on march 30th please leave messages on my page stating what tutorial you need doing and ille do it for you. subscribe to please.

  • nice !!

  • at 1:59 it looked like a reaper!

  • GJ!

  • you are so good only if i had a tutor :(

  • hey, ur good

  • why you are not tolking

  • It looks like a helmet rather than a head. I advice using the box modeling techinque.

  • bummer. thout you were gonna show how to model the face as well xD Cool technique though. Have you have tried the "box @ 45 degrees" technique?? You create about a 4x4x4 poly cube, turn it 345 degrees and make a diamonds for the eyes, nose and mouth using the split polygon. Its an Ok method, but I'm still looking for others. Thanks.

  • oh that's an interesting method i'll try it :)

in another video - the one in the "video responses" 3 inches above what you're reading - i show how i modeled the face - the result is not too too good, the face looks like a mask - later on i worked and reworked a face and ended up with a good result - thanks for the comment!

  • incredible, you got a different way from others, cool, im teaching myself, maya., very tough ,but im making progress, i think im ready to pull off this if i had voice while creation, with a little detail about things and the couple of tools u use!is there anyway you could re edit with voice instructions while video is going, even the first 45 secs of it,then i could refer back to the original, once i get that far!

  • thank you for the comment :) i used mostly edge-extrude - i made a video titled "Valentina, a 3d low-poly modeling test" on youtube i think you would like to view it -

  • wat program did u use?blender?

  • it's maya

i started learning blender and made 3 introduction tutorials for it, you can find them by searching [ mcasual blender ]

  • can ya help me out a lil in maya 8.5?

  • i think the best way to learn fast and well is to get a thick book about learning Maya - other than that, there's "the gnomon workshop" and digitaltutors who make video tutorials - at .digitaltutors dot com they even give some tutorial videos for free - then you can google for "maya tutorials" - there's a few videos about maya on youtube

  • pretty cool^_^

  • Very nice. You have talent my friend. I've never tried 3D animation myself, but that looks like it took you a while, good job!

  • I don't think it matters what software you use as long as you can produce something as creative and nice as this.

    Good job. =)

  • Flow could be a bit better, but nice method.

  • Really cool man, I tried cinema 4d, but I actually sucked..

Can you help me? haha :D

  • I think both Maya and max have been superseded by progs like modo and silo for modeling speed and efficiency, which sucks cos I trained in both.

I don't know about wings but it looks fairly decent, at the end of the day its what you make of it that counts and not the tools you use.

  • fak you wings3d is one of the best

  • haha, i dont know for sure but i think max is the best,

  • where do you find those images to model it around i use ac 3d and use i a 2d image to model it round but that works much batter

  • Very cool method.

  • im just starting on maya and i have no idea what you just did lol, but id like to thank you for the post just seeing what this program can do fires up my imagination, thanks so much! really apreciate it

  • its basically extruding edges from a starting polygon. Whats tricky is getting the proportions right. As always lol

  • Lol this is Maya you noob not Max.

  • thanx for thiS:)

  • what's the program?

  • Looks like Maya

  • It's actually 3D Studio MAX. It's my 3D engine of choice.

  • what about wings3d?

  • Wings 3D is what we call a pile of bull...

  • No, you're an idiot. Wings 3D is great box/subdiv modeler with wonderful workflow.

  • ur good, I love amateur vids, they are often better.

  • interesting modelling techinc

  • Nice face extrude and vertex merging but please tell me this is advance framing, If you can model that fast I have a project for you that pays huge money in florida for a music video, only concept started but once the process begins its a tight tight deadline

  • thanks!the video is probably played 5 times faster than in reality - i'm not very advanced, it's just a hobby for me - people that learned in schools and want to make a career of it are better - you could look at turbosquid dot com - and find good modelers and/or links to other sites where modelers hang out :)

  • Your good at what u do but your taking the scenic route in my opinion...Modeling heads can be approached in a much easier fashion.

  • in my video titled "42 quads" there's a base head where i was trying to find a more simple start shape

  • So you just pop in a pre-made visage. The hardest parts are the eyes, the nose, the mouth, and what about the ears. So basically all the heads you make look the same?

  • i have other videos where i do the face (titled "visage"). but for this video i just wanted to show how i did the head - normally i'd do the head and continue building the face - i also have the valentina/musique videos where i build a body and shape and reshape a face

  • one word

    Nice.
