  • i love this version of elijah rock...who is the composer?

  • id love to see more videos of improvement in conducting...id like to see more fluidity in pattern and dynamic hand gestures. And phrasing with the hands too! Good work!

  • I finally found the version I'm doing for Chorus. :D But this is a faster version.

  • Doing this version in my high school's fall concert. UNfortunately, the basses don't understand how to sound "black", which is understandable since we have about two people in the bass section who qualify as "not white".

  • The sopranos are WAY TOO LOUD! Let the altos come out some...sheesh! I can barely here them at all. But overall, it's pretty good. I'm in a college choir, and we are doin this song this semester. It's a pretty GREAT SONG! =]

  • @angelomusic09 oh, your doing it in college? well were doing it for highschool and middle school select singers.

  • @ViLoveful Well aren't you special...

  • As was mentioned a while back, this is the Jester Hairston arrangement, which was for years the definitive arrangement of this spiritual (and still is, IMO). The score is marked as Moderato (half-note = 75). That is NOT a 'fast' arrangement! However, I don't know that I have ever heard it performed at that tempo- usually from 84 to 92. Here it's done at about 104, and it still sounds good- it's just a bit faster than many are accustomed to hearing it. Grt job by RM and choir, esp dynamics.

  • i love this song, but i absolutely hated it when we had to sing it in our middle school a capella choir. we didnt have anyone who could sing lower than combiata, and i had to be in that group to help out our two guys who were combiata and im a girl. there were other girls who helped out, but this one kept going way off pitch and it was horrible. but i really love this version of the song though!

  • i prefer the slower versions, but still amazing :)

  • love love love it!!!

  • this is pretty close to the version that my chorus group is doing at carowinds this year

  • the john jay choir is singing something like this version

  • I finally found the version I sung with my choir in high school. Please don't erase this.

  • @ashalayl1 ha, mine too!

  • This is the Jester Hairston arrangement. I like it much better than the other one. This performance, in my opinion, was too fast. But to each his own. I love the song.

  • Very nice. My chorus is doing this song this year. It's a great song.

  • OMGG im doing this song with the sdhs chamber singerss:)

    sopranoo right here:)

    choir roxx:3

  • lol, i sang this last year for my choir concert as a soprano. i remember how badly i wanted to sing the alto part because of the beginning.

who knew it would take so long to find a specific arrangement to feel nostalgic? =___=

btw, you guys did great. very nice (b^_^)b

  • lol! i sang it last year as a soprano too!!! but i have a VERY high voice....sooooo....yeaaahhh XD

  • We never did it that fast either, we did it sorta fast tempo but not to this extreme, but it sounded good. The only thing I wish they would have done, was when the men out their little Elijah rock chanting, if they turned up the volume a tad because it was hardly audible and it almost scared the crap out of me when the women start..it was like BAM! haha! so I say if the men were louder at their chanting, though I'm thinking it was quiet because your instructor told you to be...ok im done :)

  • this sounds soo good.

  • Holy crap! This is wwaaayyy faster than my ensomble did this!

  • he he elijah...

  • if u hav the jester hairston arrangement the first soprano line is elijah, elija-ah not elijah, eli-ijah

my techr thinks its a typo but dats wat it says

    yall were osm

  • lol wow this is fast

  • this version is supposed to be faster than others.

  • yeah, it depends on how you want to interpret it. When I did this at my college we didn't do it this fast. *lol*

  • I know there are many arrangements to this song. This one in particular is fast. Personally, I like this one.

  • I like this one too (But slightly slower *lol*) I wish I had a video of the one my choir did

  • We sang this arrangement in my choir class. Do you know who wrote the arrangement? Its less popular than Moses Hogan's but I like this better.

  • @TrpM1 neil ginsberg is the one who write it & he works at my school hehehe & i had to sing it :D hes amazing

  • im in 6th grade and i sing this song!

  • same!!! but they sing it soooo fast and weird lol

  • my concert choir did this song too, we tried to make the guys the louder ones though er deep and chesty kinda. but we did the same version of this song sooo its different the way it was sung but all in all good job =)

  • that was really good.

    awesome job ^^

  • MY NAME is ELIJAH!

  • and alter unto the lord twelve rocks twelve tribes for the god he adored!

    =]

    sorry i posted two comments...

i had to finish the song.

  • elijah elijah elijah elijah rock!

elijah rock shout shout elijah rock comin up lord elijah rock shout shout elijah rock comint up lord elijah elijah elijah elijah satans a liar and a conjure too if you dont watch out he'll conjure you if i could i surely would stand on the rock where moses stood. elijah rock shout shoutelijah rock comin up lord elijah rock shout shout elijah rock comin up lord elijah elijah elijah elijah elijah was righteous man his name means yah weh in the holy land he built

  • I so enjoy this Jester Hairston arrangement of Elijah Rock. Very nice job all around. Well done.

  • i sang this song before at in the choir i'm in it's really fun to sing!

  • I'm doing this song in my Middle School. Our teacher picks all the hard pieces for us XD.

  • ...this isnt a hard song >_>

slightly difficult but not hard once you get into it

  • This is a really impressive performance.

The only complaint would be that at some key moments the female sections covered the bass line a little too much.

    But still. Very good!

  • i like how they made it their own.

i could easily describe this choir based solely on sound.

i'm part of the lewis choir. we're looking forward to seeing you soon.

  • I've sung this song as well...

But... Wow... You guys doubled the tempo we did. Though it is a 'very' boring song when you think about it. However, I think this was TOO fast to be extremely entertaining.

Regardless, this sounded excellent. Good job!

  • hm interesting lay out. i like the way you guys did this.

  • Was this version arranged by Moses Hogan too?

  • no. he only did the moern one. this was by...some african american slave a very long time ago i believe. its an old song. so pretty and nice tho!

  • i didnt do this version but it was kinda like this one

  • i go to Tahoma Middle School in washington and we did this song

    it was fun :D

    its so pretty!

  • i like this song:)

  • i love this song it rox!

  • FRANCISS LEWIS CHOIRRR !!!!!

    lol. word. Lewis Choir ftw.

you guys sound better than these foolss, psh. XD

  • chorale sorry

  • were doing this in odessa high school choir in texas at our west side concert this tuesday october 14

  • interesting ,

ive never heard this arrangement ...

    good job (:

  • im singing this same version as an alto for all county

  • i'm doing this song this year as a soprano! this is an ok version!

  • my choir teacher showed me this today, it's so cool

  • im doing this song this year and im in the 8th grade!!! it is a good song... i like singing it.

  • tooooo fassssstt but well done. the speed wasnt the fault of the choir. but im singing tenor for this song this year.

  • not too fast. this is performed the way this version was written. there are so many versions - all of which are beautiful.

  • This sounds great! This is the version we are doing now my Junior year at WHS. Though we aren't singing it as fast. I like this version better than the other. Our concert choir is like half of this choir we have about 2 or 3 soprano 2s,7 soprano 1s, 6 altos, and about 5 bass, and 4 tenors.

  • im singing this as a soprano 2 this year

  • lol im doin this song this year as a bass

  • its really easy.

we did it at mpa and got a superior!

  • I'm doing it this year too!!I'm an alto

  • me too

  • woot!! go basses!

  • I did this song in Choir my Sophomore year. It's a really hard Soprano I part. Bah. LoL. Y'all did really good, just a much faster temp than we did. =]

  • hv u heard the Gema Sangkakala's version at the choir olympic games in 2005?

  • y is it so short. they didn't really sing.

  • That's the way that this version of the song was arranged.

  • wow. they r good. i've never heard that version.

  • this is a very good. our choir's planning to sing this song soon! ;)

  • MY chorus sung that !

LYK OMGGZZ ! thate xact same version..

  • yje soprinos like sounds like angels

  • i meant soprino

  • the soprimo line is so pretty. they sound like angels.

  • Cool. Real fast. I maybe have to conduct this on my exams on monday. Cool song. We use the same arrangement.

  • Good luck with your exam!

  • thank you very much! =)

  • our choir did this 1 too ours waz really really good

  • omg this is amazingggg

our choir is singing the same version just a bit slower...this choir sings very well!!!

  • Awesome!

My choir did this 2 years ago the same arrangement. Of course it was an all female choir, so it's nice to hear it in a mixed choir

  • This is a really weird arrangement.

    Really.

  • Well done... We are doing this in my choir. It sounds simple but it is quite difficult. We, however, are an all girls chamber choir trying to get the same volume as this. Very nice and congrats to the student director!

  • we are doing this song for our choir in high school but we have a differnt arrangemt

  • Great Job! Its really surprising that a student conducted this...wow. But i must say personally i like the other arrangement of the song

  • He's an NYU music composition major now (in his 3rd year). He's a great musician.

  • wow this student is amazing we're doing thing song as well in our madrigals, but they are going waay to fast

  • good job conducting...

Different... but i liked it. I think that's how the guys are suppose to be but it was still hard to hear them in the beginnig even if it was suppose to be like that... but its over what can you really do.

  • do u see the guy in the front who keeps raising his eye brows, yeah i think he is gay!!!

  • my choir is doing a verison like this but not exactly the same.

  • pretty good. we are doing this version but you can barely hear the guys in the beginning and end

  • I've neer heard this version before -- it's different - i like it

  • this is the version we're doing. great song, but wayy too fast! amazing conducting tho! :) guys need to be louder. overall, very amazing!

  • i complelty agree with u when u say way to fast, we did a slower version. its awesome slower. but still awesome vid. while we were singing it, i got chills, just sining it. so awesome

  • barely here the guys

  • Great Dynamics... Not really the style that I had in mind for this song. The tempo and rhythm was different from the way I would've conducted it. A very rushed song... But nevertheless, Great performance!

  • great but way too fast

  • nice job as conductor....i'm a choral director myself and i know the strain it can cause...nice job :) nice job to the choir as well...wish i could have heard the guys more and less of the sopranos...but nice job overall :)

  • im singing this.. i really like it, but this is reallllyyy fast!

  • wow!! that sounds awsome!! i like the one moses hogan wrote, but this is great!!

    his was more gospel tho.

    this is so cool!!

  • it was great but a little too fast

  • Norwood High's Women Choral is now doing this song but since we have no guys girls have to do the low part is rly hard

  • It just so happens that im a talented singer also i am a man and sing base and tenor ( yes i know i gor really low ) and im in 7th grade and we sing this song so anyways my choir teacher makes me sing solo's in BASE and TENOR octives. Ya know how nervous i get??? But i do it anyhow and all the honor choirs love me.

  • do you have any idea:

1.how many people that read that won't care, and

    2. how conceited you sound?

  • ...um, so?

  • you guys are awsome! singing all this in

    a cappella

  • The sopranos and altos sound a mess! They need to OPEN THERE MOUTHS WHEN THE SING SO THEY WONT SOUND FLAT!

  • Nice goldie things [sorry I have no idea what they're called!]

  • The goldie thingy's worn around their necks are called "stoles."

  • o they did good but the R. Nathaniel Dett High school choir at the Cleveland School f the Arts Did a lot better u should here them in person....

  • My choir can this better louder basses!!!!!

  • omg...our choir did it so much better..

  • hogan was great the best ive heard and a bit scary to sing a test for sure but fun none the lest these kids did a great job though

  • great dynamics. I love this arrangment. I've performed it before ;)

  • i dont really like this version. i mean these guys sang it great. but i like the other one better.

  • which other one? i've seen other schools and choir sing this but so far the best is those ust singers.

  • You guys have a good sound and it sounds like you're selling yourself short on the difficulty on songs you can do. We did this in our sophmore choir and doing Hogan's version in our AA top choir this year. You should try that version. Its a lot harder but its a lot better too.

  • This was done a few years ago. The student conductor is now in his junior year at NYU as a vocal performance major.

  • exceptional ( a little too fast) . . . i like this arrangement better than the moses one

  • waah..

    tooo fast..

  • we sing this song, too. it´s a great song

  • We did this in a choir concert (just over an hour ago actually), this is pretty good, but the timing sounds kinda weird. I'm probably just used to how we did it though.

  • This is cool! I'm glad that this song is on youtube because I have to sing it in my school concert tomorrow, but it's a simple version of this.

  • Gotta love the Hairstion arrangemnet!!!

  • This is NOT Moses Hogan Version, His arrangment is way better! But they did good!

  • i sang this @ districts this year...we sang the SSAA version though...good job

  • Bravo!

  • were singing this!

  • hmmm werid dynamics... my choir just took this song to contest this past march and recieved a superior rating. I dont know... just did not like the dynamics and the sopranos opening part.

  • whos the arr of this? nice arr! nice sung, no question, nice sound. HOwever, it wasent the full version of what Diana Shaw sang. You really sound great for the amount of people you are!

    -cre

  • Jester Hairston arranged this version.

  • I have to sing this song in choir!
