You know, anyone can do this. It just takes hard work and determination. A year ago I could barely do a cartwheel, now I am working on my round off backhand spring full twist. Hard work will get you far, trust me.
I undercut and land in a sorta curled up ball shape :/ I've figured that once I build up my confidence doing them on a flat non-bouncy surface, I can work on my technique, but I don't want to develop bad habits... I'll keep practising!
@lipglossbaby99 -- I had the same problem, i thought it was cuz i was to weak but it wasnt i wasnt giving myself enough time to lock my arms after i swung through..........When you dip and swing back you need to give your self time to lock ur arms..... swing through and give ur arms time to lock (you can do this by jumping up more)
Hmm this video really helps. I didn't understand what hollow body meant till saw this. Back handspring sideways is definitely my biggest fault. I tend to look over my shoulder a lot because of the fear of not knowing where my body is going. I should get one of those barrels but I'm not sure where to get one. :P
if you lean back, make sure your knees don't go over your feet, and whip your arms back a bit further than your ears, you will most likely NOT undercut! hope I helped :)
I always go crooked. ALWAYS. Ive tumbled for a while now and ive never been able to go straight. I dont look over my shoulder though. I think i snap my legs crooked. Its weird.
@13Chloeee If you go crooked you're more than likely throwing one arm back faster than the other. Make sure your thumbs are in line and look at your hands as you jump back so that your head stays in line.
i do a deep seat but no as much. but i go further than supposed to. i get scared when i do a backhandspring without the deep seat so how can i fix it?
how come you don't have turned in hands? that's the problem i have. I just threw mine yesterday and the problem i have is turning in my hands or not jumping back enough. Although i did do it right a few times, the majority is me either not jumping up/back and/or turning in my hands. how should i fix this?
@thepeacegirls1234 oh well i recently fixed it. before you start, when they do the 5678, squeeze your bum and hands in blades on your sides. then when you sit back release the tension. I also bought wrist braces for both wrists so they dont turn inwards, and they help A LOT!
Ok, so this is about my 4th time watching this video. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Last week I was pretty close to getting my BHS, but tonight I was landing on my head. I think this was a combination of my arms collapsing (due to 2 1/2 hours training before) and possibly not travelling back enough. Are there any drills that anyone knows of that I could do to help strength, or any tips? Thanks a lot :)
@Ainkara Just lock your arms to avoid landing on your head. If you're not traveling back enough, you can get a tall mat, that comes up to about your mid thigh, and practice jumping back on it like you're about to do a bhs, but just jump back. Our teacher makes us do these :)
My coaches said that I'm not jumping enough, so my legs come over too slow. Is there anything I can do to fix that, drill wise? I was thinking just practice straight jumps at home, but if anyone else has pointers, that would be great :)
Oh, and fantastic video by the way, this and the other back handspring one. Love them. :)
@Ainkara I had the same problem when i started and the only thing that helped me was thinking about hitting the handstand positing. When your hands hit, you should be in a handstand, therefor if you arent jumping enough, you wont hit that position. My problem was, when i threw the skill i focused on the landing. not everything else.
I use to do the looking over the shoulder thing but now i drop my chest in the swing back. I usually dont realize im doing it but if my coach tells me im doing it, i can fix it...
you may not be jumping high enough. Next time try to jump higher like yuor rebounding. I kept doing that today, but i jumped higher and it helped, but don't sit back more or you'll squat too much
ok like im working on mine. Instead once u go to leave the floor follow your arms and look inbetween them once u get off the ground. Should get u striaghter. I still go slightly crooked. Possibly if u try to lean opposite the direction taht u go it might level it out? I unno just ideas
the real objective which i see to gain speed is to go back. Most people not afraid of doing a backhandspring going higher, but going back makes people feel like their gonna hit their head when in truth thatd only happen if u didnt jump up and back. What i noticed about these bhs's that i tried yesterday and in one of them i got ALOT OF MOMENTUM it was scary.
Start off straight, swing arms up and down to get feel. Attempt: Stgart arms forward, Then swing arms back, bend knees and throw arms back while going back and looking back. Your trying to stretch to let your hands touch the ground in the shortest amount of time possible to get you over faster. So if you lok back and try to follow your arms you should just go back. Try not to jump high up youll see the difference. Going back instead of up feels cleaner. Ill make a tut sometime for help =]
nah, just make sure you REALLY push and get a lot of power out of your legs, the leaning back is important, but rememeber to lock your arms or they'll collapse in the middle
means that you don't travel enough in your 1stt flight phase, causing bad arching of the back (no neutral handstand position), and making it impossible to give power to a 2nd flight phase... well, from what I understood.
there is no difference, there is more than one way to attempt a backhandspring. just standing and doing a backhandspring as shown in the video. or round off into a backhandspring which is easier and helps with momentum
I double bounce in the set for my backhandspring, i don't jump forward like the girl in the video did though, i have tryed to fix it but i feel like i get more power double bouncing
can you please do one one how to strengthen arms and how not to bend them. mine are perfect except i bend my arms and i collapse on my head. HELP ME!!!!
i kno me too i was highly pissed as were my coaches they were like if u bend ur arms one more time i'm gonna make you do frog jumps (pain to the fullest).
practice handstands with or without the assistance of a wall if you can, this is good conditioning for the back hand spring. Aim for straigtness and good form
I could do a backhandspring but now whenever i do it i do a backflip
