@Ivkilik149vI His name is in the title of the video - why not simply google James May if you were in doubt? But to answer the question - yes. Yes he is in deed.
Hnnnnnngh, I can't afford any of these hobbies. I used to play a lot of lego when I was a kid. Now I live in a small apartment where the most fun I can make without any clutter is playing a simulation of a builder such as The Sims or Terraria. If I ever get my hands on AutoCAD, I'll probably get stuck airfixing on my computer. Maybe once I escape from LA...
2 months ago after wathcing this show, i got my first revell kit. now i finished 7 ww1&2 planes and a b17 all in 72nd, all-in-all it cost me about a newly release video game. may is a huge inspiration...
I'm 18 and I make model planes too! They're not airfix but some other trademark. I then use them to make 3D models for games such as Flight Simulator X. It's an awesome hobby and I pitty those who would rather be stuck in their PS3 playing CoD or battlefield....
@youdontknowxpand So do I, being a keen modeller myself. Doubtless we can include Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond in that list though - both seem to have disliked this video.
I would like to be in James project, because noone at home ever supported me in this.
But I always loved to build my trucks and road cars and play with them as I had my first computer when I was about 14. Nowdays the computer-childs are useless in anything other, olny a few of them I see outside on the streets riding on bikes
I use to have a phase when I was 3 or 4 where I would take all me dads toys and play with em, then from when i was 5 till i was 8 i played computer games. now im 14 and im making stuff out of wood and metal...
In all honesty I think this is a hobby for adults. Even if these teens like it, chances are they will soon abandon it for another hobby (it's very time consuming). At least, having been introduced, they might get back to it later in life ...
When I was a teenager I used to build models and James is right, the shop was always brimmed with men who were 30 and up. In 5 years I never saw one person below the age of 20. I've still got a model in the attic waiting to be made.
Where would I buy Airfix nowadays? Any chain retailers that sell them, or do I just need to search independent toy shops? This programme has really inspired me to have a go, as I never made any as a child.
@ScottMills1988 Airfix and other model brands are still widely available mate, large hobby shops and some chain stores have them and there are a lot more on the market than there was 20 years ago.
I make airfix and im 14 I love it theres nothing better than finishing a model and felling proud of it and finding a nice place to put it in my room airfix rule
I'm 17 and I do stick and fabric airplane modeling, which is a lot more sophisticated than plastic airplane modeling. I also play a fair bit of computer games. I do sometimes feel I'm too young for me hobby sometimes though...
Airfix's spare parts service is brilliant. I was building a quite large-scale Lancaster bomber, and appeared to be missing the left-hand horizontal stabilizer. I sent an email off to Airfix HQ and got exactly the part I needed in the mail just a few days later.
I'm 16 and I absolutely adore Airfix. I play guitar and drums so most of my money goes into them, but if I ever have spare money and an Airfix model catches my eye in Hobbycraft I'll buy it =D I've forgotten what my first airfix kit was. It was a boat and the name Vosper comes to mind....anyone know what I'm thinking of? xD Cause I don't! =P
Earlier this week as a 1 off, I made an Airfix comeback when I made a 1/72 Spitfire of N3277 as I've got a rc model of that very Spit. And I fancied making an Airfix model of it.
I might hear it but,..... this guy shoulda gone to Japan to get the kids/people involved. Seriously, I am convinced the Japanese are the best model makers.
From the comments on here, I'm gladly starting to wonder that it's a myth that kids would only rather get hooked on computer games than actually make something like a model kit. My L.M.S. is normally crammed with kids on a saturday lunch time (quite a small shop), and I guess that's partly down to this programme!!!!
I can't believe those kids were like that to James. I'm thirteen and I love airfix. James, come to my school, you'll get a much more welcoming response, and I want to meet you!
This is so true. Everything james is saying about model and building things! my boyfriend is from that era and he loves models and tinkering. Now I understand why lol
This is a good excuse to mention "IPMS, UK" (International Plastic Modelers Society, UK) those that might feel inspired by these videos should check them out. :-)
@COma4c yep my nephew loves model cars, those cars that you build yourself and comes with the dynamo from japan... its not airfix but hey theyre still models...
Darn Computers! Im 14 and I have a unfinished model railway, and I have a plane from airfix unfinished because it broke but Im trying to do it, ( I got it like 3 years ago XD)
@guilhugas I'm 24 and this video makes me very happy xD well... never to old to play with toy's!!! I still do LEGO!!!! Building robot's xD and fly my rc helicopters!!!! But women don't understand...women grow up and getting old...and men never grow up :p
@jnm2008 some say that he his skin color is green, and that he hates christmas...all we know is that he's called The Grinch!!!! (sorry-Top Gear reference!!)
Now don't bash the Blue Tits. My younger sister worked on this kit, though how much my brother and I ended up doing is a mystery. They still sit in my parents' china cabinet 30 years later! I have built the Catalina and Beaufighter this year. For all the great childhood memories of building dozens of Airfix kits, I'd forgotten that the fit could be poor, notably the canopies. A tip for the Catalina; instead of following the instructions, assemble the entire wing below attaching to the fuselage.
I knew that was a Hunter, even though i havent made the kit. But I have my own personal airforce, half of it is made up of Spitfires. I want airfix to make a new Blenhem kit.
@didu52 You're not alone. I'm working on a JU 88A-4 from airfix, there is also the mistel kit thats takeing a heck of a long time to work on and i Brought the Sea Harrer FRS1 today. I got a friend of mine stuck into airfix, and he just can't stop, nether can I.
I'm an American 14 year old and I love making Airfix kits and watching this show. We Americans get a bad rap in Britain (and the rest of the world) but I want them to know that some are not uneducated, fat, lazy, video game addicts with no knowledge of the outside world. Cheers!
@JPnintendofan Keep on building yank, I'm working on the new airfix Hawker Hurricane MKIA. My first kit was a spitfire MKVc, I might get the PE-2 next.
im 13 this is actually interesting and wat is that fatass doing on the xbox playing call of duty or sommit im sorry but not all 13 year olds are like this
I used to make models like that, but they always broke because we threw the airplanes out of the window to see if they would fly ( wich they didn't do to good)
@ojyhofoy; James May seems to love saying BlueTits on TV because he often refers to them on Top Gear. I would say it all the time too though. I think its funny as hell that they names a bird BlueTits. HAHA
I knew it was a Hawker Hunter

I'm an American 14 year old and I love making Airfix kits and watching this show. We Americans get a bad rap in Britain (and the rest of the world) but I want them to know that some are not uneducated, fat, lazy, video game addicts with no knowledge of the outside world. Cheers!

HAHA
