  • Hazel was/is the real deal times ten.

  • the world will never again see the likes of hazel. what a gift she has given the world!!! she will truly live on through her music and her fans....... we will miss you.

  • Too sweet and deep feelings through her voice. She put more than her voice and gift to sing this song, she also put her painful and last wishes of her heart. I love this song, thanks for sharing it, I've just discovered her!

  • Which singer and what a voice, it gives us a very good legacy RIP Hazel

  • This is one of my all-time favorite recordings. Hazel sings so beautifully, with an understated emotion that just grabs you. She was a true original. I will certainly miss her.

  • Lovers of authentic bluegrass and working class people everywhere mourn the passing of a true national treasure. Hazel, may you rest peacefully. Adios.

  • Good thing only 2% of the listeners were misguided! Love you Hazel! I'll miss you!

  • R.I.P. ;-(

  • R.I.P.

  • So sorry to hear of her passing on. She was a great singer.

  • We do a tribute to Hazel Dickens in almost every concert we do because we were so impacted by her music and her life. Her passion for what she believed in has touched our lives more that she will every know. You will be missed and I never even knew you!! Maddy Delaney

  • RIP Hazel Dickens. What a gift you have been..

  • RIP Hazel Dickens...your sweet soul will be ever present thru your gift of song

  • rest in peace hazel

  • Sad to see another of the great ones go so soon.

  • is it true or is it a rumor hazel has been taken away from us???

  • First heard her in MATEWAN(1987).God what a singer she is!!

  • This lady is great.thanks

  • today I read that britney spears is now in trouble because she stole lyrics from some country singers. you see what I am talking about ?

  • She is probably the most authentic singer I have ever heard. She isn't polished but she is something that transcends such things. She is a pure appalachian mountain voice. There are lots of them back in the hollers and dells but almost never are they heard by the outside world even today.

  • EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT...HONEST AND TRUE SINGING

  • I dislike country music--old or new--but for some reason this song really touches me. I love her voice, the guitar is sweet, and the lyrics are honest and strong. Hmmm...Maybe it's time to give country a re-listen.

  • @endora60 It's moved away from this, sorry to say...country has very little in common with folk music these days. :( You might like Alan Jackson's "Little Man", though, or Jerry Reed's "Better Things in Life".

  • The real music Country done right,Thanks

  • We're pretty proud of her she's my Aunt used to love

hearing Hazel, Mike and my Dad Arnold Sr. get together

in the living room, Dad and Mike are gone now we lost

a lot when them two went home.

  • @ArnoldDickens You should be proud. Cant hold back the tears, for the memories, of my own.

  • good real country.....not fake like they play today

  • she is one of the really great american artists and has more feeling in her small finger than all those one-dime-a-dozen-lap-dance-disco-queens of today in their entire recording oeuvre

  • This song always puts a tear in my eyes. It is a perfect example of what makes the old country traditional music so different that the clap trap formulaic stuff that dominates the Nashville output these days. But this stuff survives and there are still people performing it and every once in a while a real voice still comes along and still goes back to sing the roots material. But no one did it better than Hazel.

  • God, this woman's voice goes straight to my marrow. I've been a fan since 1980 but had never heard this song, by her; I'd heard Dolly's. Nice picking too.

    Lord!

  • Still one of my favorite songs on utube. I come back here an listen often.

  • My brother just introduced me to this video; my heart opened up completely. Thank you for taking me back to what's real in music!

  • Such soulful honesty in this voice...such beauty. Thanks very much, Suze. Really loved it...

  • So I thank you for posting this.. A real treasure and something not to let be forgotten in time. Hats off to you for posting it. :)

  • I love her song "West Virginia My Home" Thanks for posting this.. As a young boy I remember the tails of the plight of the "Coal Minors" their hardships and the story of "William Blizzard" The man that stood and fought for what he believed in. I used to often wonder as a little boy why in my home state of california people would look down on these hard working people. I never made sense to me. I loved their ways I loved their music. My own father wouldnt let me play a banjo or listen to this.

  • You are truly talented. With a style that reminds me of the great days of C&W Patsy, Kitty Wells. You truly have brought a smile to a New Yorker who remembers the C&W greats & the old days of the Grand Old Opery. Thank you & God Bless, Lenny Waller NYC

  • Oh lordy, this is one of my favorite Hazel songs. Thank you, Georgie, I have a feeling I'll be listening to this one all night.

  • One of the greatest songwriters from her generation...Strait from the heart , too.. Give a listen to " Mama's Hand", or "An Old Miners Grave", Or "Play Me A Waltz"...we used to sing a lot of her songs,,,gotta love her
