  • 27:23-27:23 is my favourite part. I'm so grateful that you shared this video so that it could be inspiration not only for these lucky people out there but also for me. :) I'm moved and touched by these wonderful words. and I was happy she quoted Jung! :)

  • Meryl Streep is wonderful = ). I want to visit Columbia University this Summer. See how it's like.

  • alright , so i'm in love < 333

  • There is this website.. It upset me and I wasn't sure how to remedy that. So I posted Meryl's speech on it. whyarewomensostupid (dotcom)

  • @NicoleEckenroad I didn't even know such a atrocious website existed. It is sickening! Thank you for posting this on that website. Unfortunately, you can't shine truth, heart, and/or reality into the eyes of the feeble-minded.

  • so glad i got to watch this as a freshman college theatre major :-)

  • how she works on her giggle :D:D:D

  • That was really truthful and brutally honest. But her feminism agenda was a bit too rosy. The women practicing feminism are immature fruits. They neither can part with their past nor assume full responsibility. Making men adapt is not necessary a win, if the World becomes a worse place of it. But I think Meryl's struggle shows the internal conflict and many potential pitfalls that awaits this generation.

  • Meryl forever!!!!

  • I don't know why I keep watching graduation speeches

  • great!!!!

  • I heard that she speaks more than English. Is it true that she speaks French?

  • Amazing speech. She talks such truth!

  • She's so humble, funny, creative, inspiring, enlightening. I loved Meryl Streep before I watched this, but now I love her even more. This was so amazing to watch and I have even more respect for her than I ever have before. I love Meryl Streep!

  • great speech! funny + very, very motivational.

  • Meryl Streep is a GENIOUS of cinema art!

  • Nice knockers!

  • I liked her speech with the exception of how much emphasis she placed on feminism. Not that I have anything against women's rights, but I believe that the men in graduating class put just as much effort if not more to be sitting there and they also deserve recognition. I mean maybe Meryl Streep doesn't know what it is like to be in the same college with boys, but, really, the demands are the same. Especially, today. Nobody gets and easy pass.

  • @utubeology Barnard is an all woman college.

  • @Andreadoria56 I know. But Columbia University is not. And I'm sure there are male students graduating that year. And being all woman college is even worse, because it is the 21st century. How are you gonna come out and speak about equality while completely isolating yourself from male gender. It's kind of contradictory to the whole speech that she';s giving. Anyways who cares.

  • @utubeology No. There were no male students graduating from Barnard that year, because there never are. It's an all girl's school. Which means...no men. Which means, by proxy, that Ms. Streep's speech was given to a student body comprised entirely of girls. Not a penis in the whole group. So I don't understand where you got the idea that there were men in this graduating class. There are men in the OTHER Colleges of Columbia University, but this speech was only for Barnard. So...yeah. No men.

  • @happenstance26 Cock-hater! I mean it lovingly :)

  • @utubeology Ha! I take it as a compliment. Even though I'm a guy :-P

  • Wish Meryl Streep had been one of my commencement speakers. I would have remembered every word. This is brilliant! Thank you, Meryl.

  • Meryl Stryfe from the bernardelli insurance society?

  • I love Meryl Streep. She is the best actress ever!!!

  • See it always goes back to parents.

Thank you Meryl for your Linda + Miranda analogy.

  • GOSH! I wish she spoke at my graduation. 2010!

  • Awesome. Thank you for the video.

  • I am in complete awe while listening to such a smooth and beautiful speech. Meryl Streep is my idol

  • Wow...just WOW. So she is not just a great actress.

  • wow, Meryl is aging really gracefully, She still looks very pretty.

  • Wow That's cool

  • lol@i feel gay

  • She's amazingly inspirering:)

  • Jk lol

  • I feel gay

  • Thank you for sharing this beautiful, moving and deeply honest speech; you know... I recently had to speak at my own commencement, I'm an actor too, and I'm what you call a "Streeper", so you could imagine how much I enjoy seing and hearing Meryl talking about what it means to be an actor and all the things she says about... Everything ;) Thanks a lot.

  • Brilliant

  • i was there!

  • Like it

  • bleh. shese beat

  • A beautiful women inside and out. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Meryl seemed to have covered it all. I feel these young people will remember her words after some years have past...and will either thank her for having spoken this night OR wish they had paid more attention to the words and meaning she spoke of.

  • @reptilepa I'm sorry, but if a person is in favor of abortion rights, then that person has a LOT of work to do to be beautiful on the inside.

  • @fruticetum I don't think so. I am in favour of abortion rights because I think every woman has the right to *decide*. To have the right is not to use it. To have the right is to have the faculty to use a law.

And remember that when you vote for a restriction law you vote against liberty and you might need that law one day.

  • @fruticetum Ouch... harsh judgement, stubborn opinion.

  • Wonderful speech. Lucky girls :)

  • I just adore this woman. And if you're reading, Ms. S, you are still cordially invited to come to my home and read me the phone book.

  • Meryl Streep You're an original Girl, and Cheers to your wonderful career!! Yes your acting is class by all to be held tight. Love Kristin.

  • I think men identified with the Prada woman, because she was mean, not because they liked her. They like to think that women are really mean. They think this way because women will no longer kiss their ass and this makes them mad at all women. They NEVER think of women as people, without thinking of them in reference to themselves. They don't RESPECT women. Sorry, Merryl

  • @smurfette2234 What a terribly disrespectful thing to say.

  • @Yes, the truth hurts, doesn't it ?steelvenom2003

  • @smurfette2234 It's not the truth, it's straight up sexism. What you are saying is degrading and a hell of a lot more disrespectful than anything most men would ever think or say about women. You say men don't think of women as people? Well it doesn't really look like you think of men as people. Just like racism, sexism goes both ways and it's always, always, ALWAYS wrong.

  • @steelvenom2003 I hope you are a guy, because the worst thing is these women who stand up for men. They are Uncle Toms. I have belabored the point with others and don't want to argue about. I speak from experience. My mother tried to tell me about men, but I wouldn't listen. My husband treated me like trash after 25 years and two children. I loved him, I thought he loved me. Men suck. So does love. It makes you weak and dependant. It hurts. No one ever means it.

  • @smurfette2234 I'm sorry you got hurt, but the things you're saying are blatantly sexist. You need to realize that there are a lot of horrible women out there and that there are also a lot of wonderful men. Many people have gone through the same thing. It's an awful thing that is too common in our society. But that doesn't mean it's the ONLY OPTION. And if you really think that, then I strongly encourage you to try therapy, because that kind of attitude is only going to make enemies for you.

  • @steelvenom2003 I don't need therapy to make me like men, I just want to stay away from them, except for my son, I love him and he loves me. That is all I need.My ex still hates me. I have forgiven him, but he will never stop trying to get back at me. He has turned my daughter against me, who now lives with him. So you see, it will probably go on until one of us dies.

  • @smurfette2234 So somehow your son is not going to turn out like "every other man in the world?" The only thing more horrifying than your disgusting sexism is that no one close to you seems to have noticed or tried to get you into therapy. You need to realize that the things you're saying are seriously, seriously messed up. Your experience with your ex-husband is one thing, but it is NOT representational in ANY WAY of all men or all of any group. GET HELP BEFORE YOU HURT SOMEONE.

  • @steelvenom2003 There is no one close to me. How can I hurt anyone if I have no contact with men or women? I have no friends. My parents are dead and I wasn't close to anyone else in my family. All I had was my husband and children and now thanks to him, it is torn apart. He has someone else and doesn't care. Don't write me again. I am not interested in your biased opinion. I won't answer.

  • @smurfette2234 On the contrary, my opinion is as unbiased as it gets. I don't know you, I've never seen you, and I have nothing to do with you.

If all of that is true, then you need therapy even more than I thought because it's starting to sound like you're clinically depressed, and that cannot end well untreated. You're clearly going through incredibly hard stuff and I'm sorry if everyone isn't as sensitive as you'd like, but it's not acceptable to take it out on strangers on the Internet.

  • @smurfette2234 Men don't identify with the Prada women because most men, as well as most people, are good and decent.

  • I loved the speech!

  • I was there for my girl freind's graduation and when Meryl Streep spoke i wanted to push my thumbs into my eyes then bleed out in agony.

  • BREAKING NEWS: Afghanistan Christians Detained Amid Execution Threats

AFGHANISTAN --Over 20 Afghan Christians have been detained in Afghanistan after high-level leaders called for the arrest and execution of converts to Christianity in the Islamic nation, an advocacy group said Friday, June 25.

Britain-based Christian Solidarity Worldwide said the Christians were detained since last week and added that non-Christians with ties to Westerners have also been targeted for interrogation.

  • There are those who cannot see; there are those who WILL not see; there are those who see and understand. Meryl Streep always seems to me to be a human being who happens to be a movie star. I think she's the coolest.

  • @rainithesouth she's a special lady

  • This was absolutely beautiful!! I couldn't help but tear up at the end! I hope the commencement speaker at my graduation is as awesome as Meryl is. But, it being Liberty University, it probably won't happen. LOL. ;(

  • Hysterically funny, poignant, and homespun, totally relatable... even 40 years after MY graduation. I love this lady! Who listens to a speaker at a graduation? I almost passed this up, but how can you pass uip a chance to hear Meryl Streep's creativity. Glad I stayed a while, listened, laughed, puzzled and pondered, and laughed some more.

  • I enjoyed listening to to her speach more so loved thr flare of her delivery. she was superb

  • She is SO TRUE. I've had nightmares about the SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS! OMG

  • Life is the freedom to excel, pass or fail, the true measure of success rests within one's own personal view of that freedom...

  • She's such a classy woman

  • This is great motivational speech. For these who are interested in supporting women entrepreneurs, visit our site WomaNetwork (type in google womanetwork).

  • So much wisdom. What a wonderful graduation gift!

  • Thank you for sharing this video. Very thought provoking. A beautiful woman.

  • i couldnt hear anything over the vuvuzelas

  • She's such an excellent speaker. I read her words a little bit in advance on the subtitles and think of the most effective way to say whatever she's going to say, then she says it in a better way. Meryl Streep is great! :)

  • What a lovely composed woman.

  • wow columbia students were very privileged to have meryl speak for them. i'm in astonished and jealous

  • @alexisrickman1 She's a great lady and our best film actress ever. I thought the speech was wonderful and obviously it went over very well with the graduating class too.

  • I'd be honored to have had this speech at my graduation. Amazing!

  • XDD

  • Hillary Clinton: 7,000 views

    Merryl Streep: 107,000.

    Voting with views...

  • Marvelous Meryl speaks to proud Barnard grads

Work hard, thank you notes, remember names, sidestep disasters, shining success.

    Very honored

  • I like what she said woman is better than man on the act.cauz that s the way we survial, and pretend.

  • I like she said women better act than man, cauz that s the way we survial and pretend who we r.

  • @alexisrickman1 you're incorrect if you think im interested in being gracious in return

  • Any1 wanna chat???

  • WTH is there a racist argument going on in the comments below!!!!??? and under a video like this...

  • @LethalLemonLime There is a basis for an argument, but they're still idiots.

  • What an incredibly moving speech!

  • is this vid freezing on anyone else or is it just me?

  • Such a beautiful speech. She is very real.

  • @DramaPimp06

    I completely agree.

  • It's no surprise that most of the people with negative comments are males who either barely listened to enough of the speech to make any judgement, or listened with their bias and bigoted opinions already in their minds. It's 2010: Actors sometimes know more than scientists...while some politicians that speak at other schools know nothing at all. Stop basing the words on the person (though she projected them just fine) and try to be intelligent enough to understand the actual message.

  • it's up to all of us to take what we can from this... she gave the speech at one location but it is here for all of us to learn from... if this had taken place 10yrs ago not one of us would be able to see or hear the advice she offers but the fact that we live in the age.. yet that we are the first to live in an age where we are fortified the opportunity to witness this profound speach is a gift to all of us.. in short count your blessings, be grateful and have empathy..

  • Great speach, I find it truely amazing the amount of people who watch a 28 minute long video of a commencement speach so that they can complain! Change the name of this place to BitchTube "Bitch to yourself" This place would be far better off with the comments disabled, too few have anything respectful to say.

  • If any of you have been there and seen its women, you know it's more like BARNYARD College.

  • That was good !!

  • you went to Vassar!!!!!

  • love her!

  • ....

    .

  • how come these ultra liberal people only seem to speak at places that are inhabited by the rich and privileged? I thought they were for the "regular people"?
