When I first started working on this, one of the things that bothered me was, as much as Batman Begins rooted a lot in reality, it still wasn't real. I wanted to go for a very real, gritty urban superhero. So for me, Bruce Wayne being rich was a problem. The child of wealthy parents would sooner dive into drugs and women than fight crime. I felt it should be someone where crime is their world before the deaths of the parents and now they have to survive without that adult love and protection.
Part 2: And Growing up in the Bronx myself, it made more sense that way and it also makes his mission to fight back that much more dangerous. He doesn't have all the toys, all these resources. He has to rely on his wits, his strength and his anger to push him forward. My Batman walks away beaten and bloody, but he patches himself up and does again the next night. His skin color change just came as a byproduct of the multitude changes i made to the character. I feel that Batman is open to many
Part 3: types of interpretation and thats what this is, an interpretation, there are shades of my life experiences as well as my friends and family and in this interpretation, it made sense that he would be a black man. Bob Kane (also from the Bronx) created the character as more of an ideal way of how he (bob) wanted to live, and it reflects the times of his upbringing. I'm doing the same thing, its just that I live in a different generation.
@BronxSpider As someone who'd normally be pretty adamant against a character like Batman being black, I can't say I dislike the decision you made here.
Im From The Hunts Point Area. That city shot is actually from the 7 line in Queens. We were actually coming back into Manhattan when I shot the city and reverse played it in post. Beautiful Shot(pats self on the back).

I been on that line. I thought it looked familiar. My second guess would've been the 6 train. Some of my friends do film too, eventually I'll get started myself, maybe we'll come across each other eventually.
why is Bruce Wayne black? (not that it matters, but you should stay true to the comics)

Nah, you dont get shots like that from the 6. The 2/5 comes pretty close. That would be pretty cool.
