  • As ALWAYS....BEAUTIFUL....SIMPLY..BEAUTIFUL

  • not R.Wright but it's Jon Carin is singing high harmony

  • @frekadly

    Correct :)

  • As much as I love this song, this version is just terrible... They must have been really tired while they were singing it. And the keys instead of opening guitar just does no justice to the beauty of the original!

  • @kirtanakrishna The guitar IS in there, it's just really, REALLY low in the mix at first. If you listen very carefully before the drums come in you'll hear it.

  • who can not like this? thats two idiots right there!!!

  • It's like watching a live performance in a dream...

  • the 80's

  • @kurdtkobaene

    definitely

  • Wow the version on Gilmour's live dvd, Remember That Night, is 20x better than this

  • pink floyd PERU!!!!!!! FOREVER!!

  • true stoners music I fukin <3 em' man

  • yeah dave is singing the high tone and rick the lower thats new and great stuff thanks for posting

  • the usual again .poor version whit david guilmour yak

  • Comment removed

  • @superpinkfloyd100 go suck roger waters dick then u moron

  • @wchao82 roasted

  • how did u get this

  • not gonna lie...but when I first heard echoes, my view on life, love, everything changed

  • i believe that gilmour is singing the higher range ..but thats bjust me haha

  • I saw the 2nd leg of this tour...they weren't playing Echoes anymore by the time we saw it. Thanks for this.

  • Zero dislikes.

    THATS FUCKEN RIGHT

  • This is from 1989 rehersals in an empty airplane hanger in Toronto Canada if i remember correctly, there is no audience. had it on a poor VHS copy long ago, that i transferred to cassette in mono... so i could listen to it on my walkman ! cool video as they were running thru several songs and testing out all the light effects also, your sound here is 100 % better. Thank You !

  • Yeah, I know it sounds that way, but it just isn't the case. Gilmour talked about this in an interview circa 2006 or so. Wright hadn't played much or sung in nearly a decade and quite simply could not hit the high notes, so they switched parts. It's one of the reasons they ditched Echoes on the tour. I should add that I saw them perform Echoes twice on the AMLOR tour, and both times Gilmour sand the higher register.

  • I really wish they performed this more in the later years. It's a hard song to capture the atmosphere of which is maybe why they were insecure about using it but I think it sounds nice here...maybe not as solid as the Pompeii version though ;-)

  • @jwild611 I completely agree as it's my favorite Pïnk Floyd track. The problem is David Gilmour was tired of playing it which is why they dropped it as the 1987 tour went on.

  • From Nick Shaffner's excellent Pink Floyd bio "A Saucerful Of Secrets", which was published around 1990, I believe. I think they had them set to rehearse but never played full versions as they weren't working.

  • Good camera work!

  • Right, guys: The reason this didn't make the majority of setlists for the tour in '87 is that they knew it didn't sound too great- this was a warm up with no crowd. They also tried "Dogs" and "Sheep" out, but decided against using them...

  • @DarkeningSkies1

wait... Sheep and Dogs? I've heard a lot, but I never heard they tried these, where did you get that from?

  • the harmony is interchanged :)

  • 1987... shit i was born too late :(

  • @snk07 Don't feel bad I was born in 1991 and I was just three the last time The Floyd toured.

  • Gilmour's renditions from '06 were fantastic. The two that have been released are prime examples of this (Royal Albert Hall and Gdańsk Shipyard). Had they rehearsed this more for this tour it would have stayed in the set. It instead bombed as can be heard in the Philadelphia soundboard. The best Floyd version is probably Hamilton 1974.

  • That's just them jammin before the gig!!!as u must see(well not see)there's is no audiance or crowd noise

  • poor, boring and without any suspense. You better listen to the 70ths versions except 1974 and above.

  • To jest próba.....

  • i love this song....but this version is nothing compare to Pompei

  • REHEARSAL? Maybe. Still GREAT!! And QUEENFAN88, your wrong about the harmonies.

  • @progpunker He's right.

  • si riconosce dal sound che non sono i pink floyd e anche dagli scarsi effetti scenografici, dai pochi strumenti e dalla bruttezza del pezzo da loro riproposto.

  • the 87 tour was good,,,i think the 94 was just blazin amazin!!

  • ceee

  • ....masters of masters!

  • I think this is just a rehersal in a hanger in Toronto but i could be wrong???

  • none performance is poor from Pink Floyd. :( i hate you

  • @ritesh10012001 I have to disagree. Alot of their later '80s work was pretty bad, but thats because there was a bad vibe in the group; Roger Waters. As soon as he left, everything went back to gold.

Roger Waters is the Yoko Ono to Pink Floyd.

  • @DonKael Roger waters was the john lennon of the band. i don't think there was a yoko ono of the band

  • @DonKael

roger waters is the john lennon to pink floyd

  • @k0stil john lennon is the roger waters of the beatles you mean

  • @krollaostmedburger

so that means that if roger waters is yoko of the beatles, john lennon is the roger waters of the beatles, then john lennon is yoko ono of the beatles???0_0

  • @k0stil huh? ok,now i'm confused.

  • @ritesh10012001

Then you certainly do not know there older work with syd barret, most of that was utterly crap. Meddle set a new era if you ask me because of echoes, tracks as san tropez and seamus are nearly fillers that were anything BUT good.

Darkside of the moon says it all..totally different band then before. The made lots of so so work too do not forget that. And this is the worst version of echoes i have heard so far.

  • This is a great song, but as described below on this live version it just doesn't fall in place like the early versions and the Gdansk/RAH performances. Great individual performances though and an interesting document if you're studying Floyd music.

  • it was a pity they did this only for a few concerts during that tour...

  • Really good post man! nice audio and video quality! 5*

  • I don't think this is any of the better preformances Pink floyd made of echoes. The 70's is mutch better all of them. It's no bite in this one...

  • 100% agree with you, Fender. It doesn't have the spirit/depth of the Pompeii performance (for example) at all. It's like something's (someONE's?) missing.

  • Well Roger isn't there, obviously.

  • They felt the same, which is why they stopped performing Echoes that tour. The extended Floyd band [the backing musicians] just didn't have have the background in improvisation with each other like the original members had with each other, so it didn't sound right.

  • Anche i grandi sbagliano....

  • This song is better suited played on David's black strat.

  • Is that a telecaster? Correct me if I'm wrong

  • white stratocaster...

  • it's one of his Cream '57 reissue, bought when he got his Candy Apple Red ones.

  • this is awsome!!! had no idea they played this in 87. any echoes is always a GREAT echoes. long live the floyd!

  • notice how Wright is singing the lower harmony, and gilmour is singing the higher harmonie,

  • @Queenfan778 Well spotted

  • @Queenfan778

    that sounds weird.

it would be better if they sang like in original. - wright higher harmony ,gilmour lower harmony.

also i liked that they made first verse 2 times longer

  • @k0stil They switched vocal harmonies? That is strange? Why would they do that and where did this guy get this info from...?

  • @FatmanCaufield

    hmmm.

i think he got this info from.... his ears.

  • @Queenfan778 No, its the other way around...Wright is the higher voice

  • @thegrudge usually, but not here. Gilmour is singing the higher register. I was glad they dropped Echoes from this tour because they sis a lousy job with it.

  • @grelch No man, i can distinctly hear Gilmour's voice, its the slightly lower one...the more dominant of the two. Wright is having a hard time hitting that higher tone here, so maybe it sounds like the lower one to you or vice versa

  • @thegrudge

Sorry dude but you really are hearing this wrong. It's definitely Gilmour on the higher harmony and Wright on the lower. I'm not sure how you can be hearing Rick's voice as lower as his voice is very distinctive and it sure aint him! Also the fact that they swapped vocal parts in '87 has been well documented.

  • @mikec32001 nah sorry man...no way gilmour is the higher tone. u are trippin. just watch live at pompei. they sing it the same way

  • @thegrudge Haha!! You serious? Please go and research this man, whatever you THINK you're hearing, you're wrong. But you're obviously not going back down so good luck mate.

  • @mikec32001 Lol. I'm good on my research, but thanks anyways. Seriously though u got it backwards! Haha, its cool, i know your not gunna back down either. Oh well.

  • @Queenfan778 Yeah and its opposite in original version

  • @Queenfan778 he is annoying me a lot, but its good anyway.. xD

  • @Queenfan778 In the original version Wright sings the higher harmonie and Gilmour the lower............maybe Wright is no more able to sing as well as when he was younger

  • Not long ago i heard an interview with Gilmour and he himself said he was not at all happy with the 87 attempt at it....but felf they got it right in 07....P.S. pink floyd in any way shape or form is AWESOME!!!

  • I have to say as well, the '07 performances are far superior....

  • I Love to watch Nick as he plays, he was the fuckin pimp of the group! All the long fur coats in the old days.... He just is always chillaxin back on the drums, with his lil shoulder roll! You Da Man Nick! Thanx for postin this, its great! Rehearsal, Perfect or not..... Perfect for me!

  • The vocals on this version are no good...

  • One thing I notice on the 1987 versions of Echoes is David and Rick swapped harmonies here. David was now singing Rick's original high parts and Rick was now singing David's lower parts on this version. The 1974/75 performances had female singers and saxophone which took away from the feel the 1971, 1972 and 1973 live versions had. I liked the 1987 versions of Echoes. The JFK performance was phenomenal, this wasn't bad as well. On DG's last tour, thank God he did this classic

  • I can see why Gilmour recently said he didn't like this version of Echoes, the feel just isn't there

  • LOL, this is a rehearsal. They are walking through the song and no doubt the entire show.

However, if you manage to catch the JFK show from this tour, you'd be floored by the feel.

I didn't catch Glimour saying anything recently about Echoes from this tour. Where did you see that?

Thanks for posting this I think it's great.

    o's & x's

  • Gilmour in his recent interview with Guitar World said he disliked how they did Echoes on this tour. Your right though, its only a rehearsal

  • Right on. I wondered why they switched to Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I have a tape somewhere of the JFK Show. I'll see if I can dig that up and post it. As I recall. The feel of the song as an opener, was to highlight just the four band members before breakout the rest of the band.

Between the two tours, I thought this tour was better. And I'm very happy that Gilmour covered Echoes on his last tour. Great Song.

  • I totally agree about this tour being better than the 94 tour. There was just something about it in 1987 that felt better. I guess partially because they were trying to prove themselves after all the troubles with Roger, etc.

  • @MoultonDrums

    right here on You Tube

  • I heard they felt it didnt work because all the younger members were asking what times they were supposed to be coming back in etc. and they said you just have to feel when to come back in but they just couldnt get it wrong so they scrapped it after about 5 shows
