  • Why dont you just put an old motor on there instead of the bike pedal

  • watch out, a train!

    whe...

  • This line actually may be reopening, it has been restored since then.

  • I wish I could be there and do that !

  • Home made velocipede?

  • do you know the history of these lines?

  • Bet he's not fat

  • Cool shoes dude.

  • Looks like fun! Id love to do that but here most of our railroads are all in use by class 1,s and a few shortlines. There are a few dormant lines but they are down in Central Indiana.

  • I would pay to do this. Looks like a lot of fun.

  • @ccraxfan Correct but his tread is all goofy, the flange isn't wide enough and the tread is stepped in a funny way. That's why it derails. Fairmont wheels FTW.

@LCRV1 yes, they were. He's on the NWP near Schellville, CA. Note the water damage and triple-track in his "derail" video.

  • You should've recorded your railroad bycycle at the end of video. I wanted to see how it looks like.

  • Thats kind of like beign an engineer on a th tracks you shuold make it look like a locomotive with the horn!

  • Superb. Looks like a heluva lot of fun!!!

  • germany mate not uk or america

  • Weren't these tracks repaired and returned to service???

  • Now that looks like a hell of alot of fun !!! You get that up to a pretty good speed for a pedal car. BRAVO !!! Can I buy a ride ?? LOL...5***** + Fav'd !!!

  • Would you mind telling me where these tracks are?

I have myself a similar device (dirtbike engine and built for two) and would love to see how fast she'll go on open track without having to worry about trains. I play with mine on the tracks in the Santa Cruz Mountains between Felton and Santa Cruz (Watch out for trains, stare one of those down on a bridge, and you're fucked)

But please, point me in the right direction.

  • ami tanbien me gustaria ir en uno de esos viclorail por las vias muertas que quedan aun .

  • AWE......Some!

  • Gotta get me one, that is all there is to it !

  • I got to get me one of these

  • Looks like a hell of a lot of fun...

    Got room for one more???

  • Not really biking (see his web site, it's powered by a small engine).

    I like the makeshift wheels.

You might want to increase the length of the flange a bit to stay on the really shakey rails.

  • @aegrotatio

The size of the flange is dictated by the track. If they made it any bigger, it would hit the bottom of the groove in crossings and frogs. Look at a rail car sometime and see for yourself: the flange is quite small.

  • Longer videos!! You're doing what I fantisized about doing 40 years ago. Go for it, and make it a good long trip. That is so cool. I envy every one of ya!

  • what are u riding, a mine cart r sumthin?

  • no dumbo, its a homemade pedal car that goes on railroad tracks

  • im not ON them, id get killed

  • So Cool!

  • Man, I wish I had a bike that I could use on abandoned branches and mains. Although, I don't think there are many abandoned lines in Greater Los Angeles.

  • @AODProds You can usually tell which lines are either abandoned or have little to no use by the condition. It's an easy machine to build; take the driveline from a bicycle, put the rear wheel sprocket onto a driveshaft, and connect that driveshaft to wheels set wide enough to sit on the rail gauge. To keep it on the track, use skateboard wheels; one set vertically inside the track, one over it horizontally for each wheel. Then all you have to worry about is other rail traffic

  • @AODProds ? Make one - it's extremely easy .. Just use an old pushbike & 4 split rim Go-cart wheels .. tossing away the outer rim .. leaves one with a single rail wheel (c/w flange) ... Or.. convert an old . Reel type lawnmover .. and simply drop a chain drive .. down to a fixed hub axle .. same split rimmed go-cart wheels .. without that outer rim.. (easy)

  • @QUIX4U I posted that comment over three years ago when I was 13, and since then A. I've found out that there are a variety of ways to build a full-size personal rail vehicle B. there are quite a few abandoned rail lines in the Los Angeles area. But, to be honest, my interests have shifted since then, and I'm no longer interested in pursuing full-size at this point. But thanks for the reply anyway. :)

  • More fun than an exercise bike for sure!

  • Awesome find on the abandoned tracks.

  • cool, i want one! that's pretty funny, man.

  • lol

  • Search for "railbike".

  • Where is that?

  • were is that, who owned that trackage?

  • Thats awesome dude.

  • But then you hit an abandoned bridge that has rotted. Those look like nice shoes!

  • I need one of these.

  • can you give me the derections on how to build that please that looks so fun
