@Golan7 Here in America, Jackie Chan version is still called, "Karate Kid". When they released the movie in Asian countries, they renamed it "Kung Fu Kid" to be more politically correct. My family just calls Jackie's version "Karate Kid" for the sake of time and it has basically the same story as Macchio's.
I think,we all know the Western copies of the Jackie version are called "Karate Kid". But, like Golan was saying it shouldn't be called that. "Kung-Fu Kid" isn't more politically correct, it's factually correct. Karate isn't from China. So, why would Jackie teach it? If they wanted it to be "Karate Kid" they should have set it in Japan. If they were so determined to have it set in China they should have changed the name to match the country's martial arts!
As a side note, the movie isn't called "Karate Kid" or "Kung-Fu Kid" in Japan; they call it "Best Kid" (but they also refer to the original trilogy as "Best Kid" too). I guess the Japanese felt the movies weren't worthy of representing one of their martial arts.
Because of this movie, my teachers made a lot of Daniel-son jokes at me. One teacher even told me to wax on or wax off (talk or shut up, cause I would answer all the questions in class), and also to be strong with something.
How the hell did Daniel turn into such a pussy in part 3 and forget almost everything when it comes to Karate just months after he whooped Chosen's ass in part 2? Chosen was Sato's best student and even taught American Military personale.
Anyone notice Johnny had a black eye in the dojo the next day after Mr. Miagi whooped them the night before when they were in the skeleton uniforms? Yet he was never punched in the eye. Just a kick to the balls and a chop to the gut.

What I never got is how Daniel wasn't able to beat the generic badguy from the third movie from the start. He was recently home from a trip to the birthplace of karate where he fought and defeated a top student from a top master. It always bothered me that he was so defenseless against "Karate's badboy"...
Yeah, me too! I think they tried to make the Mike Barnes character like a sort of Ivan Drago. He appeared to be much stronger than Daniel and he was only defeated when Daniel used a tricky technique

People were mad because Daniel wasn't in it, but many people have said it themselves, when Karate Kid part 3 came out, it was like they ran out of ideas. In Karate Kid 3 Daniel was fighting... well just because. Not to mention they turned Daniel into an annoying arrogant prick in the third one
The third film should have come in the middle. Also I thought the new Karate Kid with Jaden Smith was actually pretty good

4 The Karate Kid remake 2010

Mr Miyagi is way better then Jackie Chan in my opinion and Daniel was more of a wuss in the third Karate Kid

Mike Barns kinda reminds me of the main villan in Rocky four, can't think of his name, he is the big white dude. The fact that Mike Barns was Daniels toughest oponent and the dude in Rocky 4 was Rocky's toughest oponent. Anyway, the Karate Kid trilogy will live on in our hearts... :D

@koltinsrocks while you do have the rights to you're own opinion, (and i'm not trying to start a stupid Youtube fight) I think The Next Karate kid was actually pretty good. People were mad because Daniel wasn't in it, but many people have said it themselves, when Karate Kid part 3 came out, it was like they ran out of ideas. I think the makers of the karate kid movies thought fans would like to see Miyagi train a new student. :)

hey james. did you know that they originally planned on toshiro mifune (a favorite of kurosawa's movies, though i'm sure you know that!) to be mr miyagi in this movie, but they turned on the idea because he would have made it too dark? fuck, a part of me wishes they used him </3

Daniel's nickname throughout the series should have been "timex"... cuz he takes a licking & keeps on ticking! XD To be fair, tho, he WAS kind of a mouthy lil' punk in the first movie.

Anyone notice Johnny had a black eye at the Cobra Kai Dojo the next day after Miyagi whooped them the night before when they were wearing the skeleton costumes? Miyagi never even hit him in the face. Another Rocky / Karate Kid link is Bill Conti who does the music for both movies like Fight Night in Karate kid and just about all the Rocky music. I also remember when KK3 came out, people were claiming Terry Silver was Steven Siegal, lol.

As far as AVGN's line of 'The Karate Kid' basically being a re-telling of 'Rocky' with the same director, there's another thing I think he left out:

@tthomaselli2 Yes because in my opinion it was better. First off the stakes were higher in the fights, second I really could see that Daniel and Myagi was becoming more like father and son, and the characters had more character development

i hated the karate kid. he won by default. he gets his ass kicked for most of the tourney and gets in ONE lucky shot.
in the remake, the billy zbaka wannabe was even more vicious and jaden win. hell no.
