is this vending machine like where you can tie a string around a dime and put it in the slot and take it out for a free soda. because in the 1950's you could do that. now a days when you put your quarter in it locks the slot so you cant get your quarter back.
Thanx for posting this. I was a wee boy when this ditty was around and had forgotten it and the singers. A better time my friend, a better time, and better also than the commercials and ditties which followed much later, though some are good. I am among the legion of coca cola collectors around the world for this quintisentially American icon.
@td84 LUCK and alot of searching!! And yes it does look GREAT, in my basement bar!! You really cant get anything any cooler looking to dispense beer and pop or what ever! Go for it and then get it restored!
I would love to have a coke machine like this in my basement. It's the perfect addition to any bar.
My neighbor has a later coke machine, and his house of full of coke memorabilia, from calendars to posters, toys, clocks, and a red circular floor rug.
Keep in mind our pocket change at one time contained silver. That same silver dime today is worth $1.36. About the cost of 12 oz of Coke today in a modern machine.
Also the large door V-81's like this one, were usually painted with the white top. The small door V-81's that were the first ones made, were all red. Coke wanted a "refreshing" look, and had the Vendo Co. change the paint scheme.
It's all a matter of taste. I like painted in all red like this one. Mine has the white top which is "correct". (except for a few)
I used to collect these machines, they are very high on the cool scale. I put the value of this one at around $4000-5k. Pretty good restoration.
I still have my V-81, semi-restored, (the serial plate indicates it was made in Oct of 1957 in Kansas City, Mo.)
a V-23, and the Vendo Coin changer from the 40's. I used to have perfectly restored V-39, V-56, V-110, a beautiful Jacobs-56, and a stunning Mills 45. These machines are truly beautiful works of art. I never get tired of looking at them.
I found one of these with 3 dents in the top on ebay. it was $3 starting bid and noone bid on it yet. It had like 20min left. But I was busy. i should have told someone 2 get it.
Great machine. I wonder how many here recall a Vendo coke machine with a nickel and penney slot for 6 cents? Yes, six cents a coke. One penney per ounce.
reminds me of when we traveled in the 60s nice beautful machine and music

So much better, in my opinion, than Pepsi-Cola. Coca-Cola was the first mass-produced cola, and it will be the last.

So garage sales, newspapers, craigslist to start with?
Also, are they a pain to repair? Are parts easy to find?
You're right, it would definately complement my pool table and arcade machine.
