THESE ARE NOT PAINFUL! If you have someone who knows what they are doing. For someone who is in a lot of pain, they are the only thing that really helps. There is mild discomfort and pressure, but not pain. I HIGHLY recommend them. I have lumbar joint inflammation at L4 and a torn disc.
Hippocratic oath= I swear by Apollo the healer & take witness to all other gods that I will NEVER EVER hurt anyone in practice of medicine.. Now- where's the baby in 4 healthy baby visit? Hush little baby, don't U cry, Doc's gona inject U with formaldehyde. If that poison don't keep U sick, Doc's gona do another trick.. (Also includes aborted fetal tissue & aluminum in witch's brew) English word "Pharmacy" comes from Greek "Pharmakeia means witchcraft, poison, sorcery. Things still remain same
Had this done yesterday on 6 separate facet joints & was also awake throughout! Had mild sedative through IV to help cope & local anaesthetic to needle stick sites which helps surface pain but not the deeper discomfort & pressure but i didn't make that much noise!! Feeling sore & bruised today but I'm hoping it'll be worth it. You'll try anything when your in constant daily pain although mine's from arthritis not lifting a car lol. Am hoping I'll stop feeling 78 instead of 38 years old now, tim
have you tried chiropractic? It works for my low back pain. I haven't had any back pain for 4 yrs. since starting chiropractic and I go once a month for an adjustment.
I had the facet injections today... L4-L5 S1 or C1,,so far so good, having slight leg cramps, was trying to rid that too,,going back to work tomorrow. I will see
This looks like standard facet injections and that is an outpatient procedure that is x-ray assisted. I have had it done twice and it has worked great. The procedure is done to temporarily relieve joint pain and to diagnose problems. The relief is supposed to help a person, in part, be able to get involved in physical therapy to strengthen the back so that these problems are not chronic. I had 3 injections done at each visit. It's horrible looking but with an excellent doctor, does not hurt.

I just had my transforaminal epidural steroid injections today for the first time. They were easier than I thought they would be. They gave me a little Versed and fentanyl which took the edge off but I surprisingly remember the whole thing. Versed has an amnesia affect but I don't think I got enough of it to do that to me. Tonight, my back pain is completely gone! I've had back pain and 2 bulging discs for 8 yrs. It's a miracle. I'll probably need more but for the time being, it's great.
Lol!!!! "How'd you hurt your back?" "I don't know, I think I tried to pick up the back of a car." haha he wasn't hesitant to admit his stupidity!! And tried to make it sound innocent "I think"
I had this procedure done today on the left and right sides. I'm glad I didn't see them doing it but in retrospect, I should have videoed it to watch later.
@thecatofwisdom I had injections on both sides of my lower back at the same session. One of the sides hurt but it wasn't too bad- grin and bear it type of pain. The other side caught me off-guard and it hurt quite a bit. more. I broke out in sweats and they brought me a cold cloth to put on my forehead. I concentrated on keeping my breathing slow and steady.
i have had 3 sets of epidurals and 2 sets of facets and the rizodomy procedure... none have worked... i need to have a spinal fusion and my insurance is giving me the runaround! i had to go back for one more facet to please the insurance company just last week and now my feet are numb, next thursday i am scheduled for a discogram, i heard these are extremely painful and that the recovery feels worse than a c-section! all to please them more to get the damn fusion approved! this sux
all of my injections from my pain management doctor, i am giving an i.v. then right before the injections i am giving some propofol to sedate me an almost put me to sleep. after that i feel or see nothing till afterward the procedure. it works great! i would never do it this way, it looks like some medevil torture procedure. by the way it makes you feel awesome when they give you that sedation through you i.v.!
I just got this procedure done this morning. Is it painless?...no it's not... but it's not any worse than getting a flu shot if your doctor is good with needle placement. The process started with a 22 Guage needle (little one) , the second needle was a 20 guage needle and I didn't feel it. The last needle is a 17 guage needle which is used to pump in the steroids. One time he hit a spot that wasn't numb and it hurt but he quickly numbed it and I didn't feel anything else the rest of the time.
I go for that 2-3 times a year but your right it don,t last long. they say your suppose to get better. but I have found being a little more active helps.
I had same procedure done twice but the nurse was assisting, not just sitting. You are given a injection that numbs the lower back so the only thing felt is when they move the needle around to get a exact local for the injections. This patient was making more sounds than I ever did. Maybe be for the video but it doesn't hurt to the point of aahhhing. It's more a slight pinching. Just be sure you get a good and credible anesthesiologist and it's really a piece of cake. I am a 46 yr. old female
marshey14....that's what i said, motherfucking doctor took away my pain pills and said its the shot or nothing at all. i told him to lick my balls. and every other doctor ive been to since has told me the same thing. that shot is fucking bullshit, its another form of temporary relief. but im sure they get a lot more money for doing the shot
i had a similar procedure a week ago. it was extremely uncomfortable - but i wll try anything for relief im still praying it helps with my back and hip pain. so far its worse. thank god they gave me iv valium for the procedure.
I was referring to the doctor pre-drawing the medication, say 5 minutes prior to scrubbing up. I'm aware of not leaving your sterile field due to lack of ability to ensure the syringe's sterility, but it's also a danger to the MA - that draw was like "Hey, let's stick this girl". And, not even considering that in the equation, he could have drawn it up, recapped it and maintained the needle's sterility without endangering the nurse.
@silentmason the syringe is to remain sterile and the vial is not... would you want the doc to touch an unsterile object before performing an invasive procedure on you??
@manicbutler Dag nabbit. I am tired of arguing this. Look, he should NOT have had her hold it towards him like that. There is the risk of him poking HER. He could have had her set it down and he draw it aseptically with her assistance. That's the first point... The second point is even if he did lose sterility of his hand, you touch the patient with ONLY a sterile needle and there is NO conceivable reason to touch that needle. Hmmmph!
@silentmason It's a somewhat debated issue, who should hold vial and who should not. A new bioengineering project recently came into play. The project consists of a device that holds something like 10 vials (of all sizes) upside down for the operator to draw up the medication. It's a good idea.
@silentmason The epidural is a sterile procedure. The vials are not sterile and cannot be placed in the sterile field or handled with sterile gloves. That's how it's always done, not just that particular physician.
Today I went to have two of those injections L4-L5 and L5-S1 and so far I still feel the same, maybe I have to wait few days to see what happen, didn't feel too much pain.
I have had about four Epidural Steriod injections at the S1 L5 area. I have been asleep for all of them. Cannot imagine being awake for them, would not be awake for them! Only one I was awake for and not sedate a bit was a discogram, it was horrid. But totally necessary before I had surgery.
I've had 4 of these injections done for a lower back problem (disc protrusions, 2 of them) and the procedure SUCKS ASS and it does feel just like it looks and I was awake through all 4. The 1st one I threw up cuz it hurt so much, the 2nd one my legs shook the whole time and the 3rd and 4th ones were ok, not quite as bad, but all in all the injections HURT like a bitch BUT.... they help!!!! No pain for 6 months! I'm due for my 5th one very soon, within the week.

Why the shit is the doctor not drawing up the drug himself? That's pure laziness and a danger to the woman holding the vial.
silentmason 3 years ago 16
Because the needle is sterile, the contents of the bottle are sterile, his hands have been scrubbed but the bottle itself will NOT be sterile.
If he handles the bottle, he will need to re-scrub.
