@kitkatkaff You can start a younger dog on contact obstacles, but generally they don't do much with jumping until they're a year. Some people believe that it can mess up bone development. Besides first year is a good time to get a lot of obedience out of the way :)
It doesnt matter what age as long as they are under 3 is my preference, my border is 2 and we just started agility but he is quite amazing i am taking him into 4-h you just want to make sure that your border is VERY trusting of you as the jumps and tunnles and see saws are scary at first and it took me about 3 days to get him up on the see saw and keep hm on to touch the target but i think yours will be good now :)
my agility pup has a horrible attention span, so i have to keep him on a leash while training. he's only got the jumping, tunnels, and (kinda) weave poles.
my border collie boogie as a beginer was top of class! i never though it would amount to anything but after 4 classes they promoted her and it kept staedy like that until she broke her leg in pros. but as soon as se healed she went right back to it! and this week we are running in the champions! wish me and my 3 year old border collie luck! this will be my first championship with booie and i hope there to be many more! the judges will likely be surprised by my dogs and myselfs age. dog:3 me:12
i Have LUSH little 2yr old border collie and he LOVES jumping agility!! He is very good at it! I will post some vids on my account but just keep in mind he is quite green cos of his age..he is lovely though!! Pure welsh border collie, he is such a little babe bless him =)
BLUE MERLE!!just like my girl, were ganan start competing this year hopefully :D she goes like that, very fast and easy, cept the weaves, shes still a bit green on them, but , well get her sorted :D
I'm getting a border collie this summer!!!! I can't wait!!! I do agility with my Blue heeler but i can't compete her b/c she's not registered :( So i'm going to get a border collie so i can show it in agility!!!! I trained my blue heeler all by myself and i'm 14 and she's 11 months! She is soooo smart though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AGILITY DOGS RULE THIS WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it might be different where you are though?
xXeMokiDXxMCRXx 2 years ago
Yes, a dog shouldn't jump until they are at least a year old.
