Well I've ditched the mondeo now and invested in a 2002 plate S60 T5, got a remap from RICA and it bent the needle at 160 MPH, was 250 BHP now 310 BHP. it's a joke in first and second, It will spin third too on a slight bend at 70 mph +. cars with more than 200 Bhp should always be rear or AWD. I'm saving for an S60R, 300 BHP AWD, 330 BHP with the rica remap. Watch this space!
170 bhp standard, 139 Mph from ford stats. I have a k&n plus it's chipped and I was using 97 ron. I've had 145 on the way back from holyhead Wales through the biggest downhill you've ever seen through the valleys, No film though, the engine limiter even came in and fucked me off from even more, I think that means it was properly maxed regardless of speedo innacuracy, I think well more than the 139 ford test.
i raced an ST24 a couple of years ago on the M58, it was no contest my leon cupra left him from the start. once i hit 150 i never saw him again. my car is not modified. the ST24 is not as fast as i thought it would be.
leon cupra, very new car, very fast and no match, don't forget the v6 ford engine is the same from the Mk1 v6 mondeo, 1991 onwards, apart from the st200 (wreg-on) which had a better head & inlet valves, injectors etc. but the same 2.5 block. at it's time the ST24 was a good car. Look at the Audi 2.0 TDI, super quick but very new. look at Audi in 1991,What did they have to compare engine wise?
Mondeos are fukan lethal in the wet if you attack a corner and let off the power to quick, it'll always bury the weight into the front wheels and send the arse round, quite funny when you're not expecting it on an oily road. I've even done it in the dry In the car posted on this vid, gud job no-one was on the roundabout at the same time as me! I needed both lanes to recover. The exit after the fuck up looked very pro though, lol!
To be honest (and not trying to be nasty or anything) I think that's more a reflection of your driving than the mondeo's handling. Of course you're gonna go sideways if you let off the throttle mid-corner. The mondeo handling is fairly benign if driven properly - mayby a little too much understeer, but it's a family car. The fact that you can get it sideways if you want to and that it's fairly easy to get straight again is a good thing.
look up lift-off oversteer. when you let off the throttle, the car slows, so the weight is transferred to the front wheels, giving them more grip. The rear wheels now have less weight acting on them, so they have less grip, and if you were anywhere near the limit of lateral grip when you let off, you'll go sideways.
no fairclought7, ST24's aren't that fast , i own one myself, its a its a mid range family car/motorway cruiser,
they were never intended to be fast, merely a ghia x with sportier seats and a bodykit, basically 'tesing the water' to see if there was still a market prior to the newer RS range stuff.
you want fast, get an evo or something, you want a good affordable comfortable car with a few toys, mondeo all the way

My previous car was a sierra, and I have to agree, RWD is the best by far, none of that front end slide out under power!, If you get it right with RWD and have the balls It will corner faster, ( usually sideways but controlled and one eye on the exit of the corner)lol! The Sierra DOHC must have been beards old, youngest 1989?
It depnds which ST24 it is. The hatback version u can get up 2 about 135-140 the estate version 135+ & the saloon version which is the lightest out of all of them will do about 140+
hey in the US you cant get a 2.5 v6 mercury mystique (same car) to go up to 150. ive got a 2.5 v6 mystique looks just like that and the spedometers total speed is 130! so that means im getting jipped out of 20 mph! WTF?!?!

I've had 145 on the way to Bangor in the huge drop that has mistkenly been designed for ppl like me. When the engine limiter says no at 145 I beleive Computer says no. it defo backed off, ot was off film which did me tits in.Ask the wife, she witnessed this great moment
i've had 145 in the valleys to Bangor Nth Wales Which is predominatly downhill the engine rev limiter came in and denied me from further progressing this feat, on paper this car has 170 Bhp, and 139 MPH. I have k&n and a resistor over the air temp sensor hopfully creating 187bhp, it sounds amazing, I have a nick name of v6 boy around the Crosby area of Liverpool. LOL
If your ever going to look at your cars tip speed, Join the M58 and just before the Pimbo turn off get yer boot down big style. even if your car on paper cannot perform these figures, the down hill and 187 BHP may one day get you to 145 unrecorded, it's a strange feeling when you engine backs off before the red line. if you can read the above and disquinguish between my attempt and the real keep i touch. autobahns are the best lol wink wink. m58 north down hill

i myself have both bikes and cars and the bike is definatly faster of the lights. but for long journeys and on the motorway i prefer the car you can have the heater on put the cd player on and relax in a nice comfey chair.

you give me 6k and I'll get a 300zx twin turbo with mods and I'll show you what fast is!! I paid £800 for this car and spent £470 on an improved fuel regulator, remap, k&n plus I drilled the cats (both pre cats & the main one) before bluefin remap. Maybe you are loaded but don't disrespect the ability of ford coz of their competetive pricing in a highly competetive market! ST220 has 225 with no turbo and the normal ford engine warrantee.
If you take a proper look you will notice the odometer on 134619 then at the end of the film 134622. It did 2 & half miles in just over a minute. @ 120 mph you do 2 miles every minute! 140 = more per minute! BTW the mondeo has a uk speedo clock (Mph in white on the outside) and the odometer measures in miles not KM. TIT!

The standard 2.5 V6 24v duratec engine in that particular model with hurl it to 139 Mph. Mine is chipped & has a k&n filter running at approx 189 Bhp Compared to 170 Bhp as standard. Mondeo speedos are electronic & very accurate. Try switching it off whilst driving, you will notice no speed shown. I have had 145 Mph outta it on another occasion The rev limiter jumped in and backed me off to 140.
Don't like bikes, to likley to die onnem! U jus make sure you sign up for organ donation pretty soon! grids, oil on roundabouts, ice, rain, cold, getting squashed by vans etc not my cuppa T!
If I showed the road I'd be without a licence & with a few months in jail. Did you see the lad recently in the red MR2 filming himself on the hard should etc around 135 Mph? He's in jail now.
ive had one of these cars in past and they sit quite easy and relaxed at 140mph

Let's not mention that most speedometers are inaccurate and often over read. My dad's mondeo over reads by about 10%, my Focus about 5%.
