We wouldn't have lost that bridge if not for the log jam that was for fish habitat. If fish and wildlife could have placed the log jams up against the homes that lost all their land DOWN river from the bridge, it may have saved us taxpayers all this money to repair the bridge and rebuild it. It was the rush of water that took out the homes on the Tahuya River AFTER the log jam broke loose up stream and took out the bridge. I hope that the experts can build the bridge UP HIGHER then the it is now
Well, it's nice that they replaced the wood planking. Now I'm curious how much this will cost county taxpayers each time?
If they have the money to replace the planking every 6 months (assuming that's how long the temp bridge has been in use now), I'm wondering if maybe that money could have been put toward rebuilding the PERMANENT bridge, especially after doing a couple more replacements.
Yet, they decide it's more important to repave BELFAIR's intersection/streets several days ago.
E-mail went out today (June 30,2008) from the Mason county officials.

Road Operations Maintenance of Mason County that the temporary one lane Tahuya bridge will be closed July 9, 2008. I was told that if we get over the bridge BEFORE 8:00 A.M. we could cross it. Otherwise we will ALL have to use the North Shore road by going around via Maggie Lake way to Kay's Corner. They hope to have it open back up by 5:00 P.M. BUT NO GUARANTEES. Call Amy 275-4467 ext 450 for info.
I deffinately agree about the confrontations! That was one thing I forgot to add here. I would venture to guess that it won't be too long before we hear about a shooting. You get too big egos trying to occupy the same space and something's bound to happen. I figured that, at least with the lights, no one could dispute who had the right away. I believe they use a light on the Treasure Island bridge in Grapeview since it's a one-lane bridge.
Thank you for the input. I'm hoping that the county people who were e-mailed this site will figure it out. They did talk about a light, but if they are not stopping for the signs why would the light make a difference? Oh yeah, I know, they can figure out the light cause it tells them in colors. Red, yellow and green...lol
The people are getting dangerous with confrontations. I know one man said he didn't know the policy *same as 4 way* of the bridge and followed the guy in front.
part 2 ~ When he got to the other side, the car that should have gone, pulled out in front to block him. Then I guess the irate person who missed his turn, told this elderly, senior citizen a few things in his "red neck Jerry Springer language" Lots of swear words and insults.
I had hoped that the "victim" who didn't know the rules, would at least write here. I hope others will write their experiences as well. Wait till they close the road to repair the bridge... Oh Brother...help us all!
Ok, here's my thought on THIS intersection, as I live near here and use this TEMPORARY bridge everyday.
Because there are no cops monitoring this area, it has become a "free for all" when it comes to traffic. MOST people don't treat this like an "in town" intersection.
You get honked at if you DO follow the rules (letting ONE car cross at a time), and get honked at if you DON'T (more than one car across at a time).
Sometimes, some drivers in back will pull around you if you're letting the RIGHT OF WAY driver (on the other side) come across, because they only care about THEMSELVES!
To Public Works & Mason Cty Sheriff, they can decide how they want to handle the problem.
On 5/8/08 a call was placed to Mason County to make note about this problem. It is felt that cement barriers along the white stop line all across the Belfair/Tahuya road allowing 1 vehicle at a time may solve the problem. It will make them stop or slow down considerable so as NOT to hit and injury someone. It will also save the County Sheriff from coming out to just sit to write tickets.

Sign just went up at the one lane bridge stating it's 7:30 A.M. that it will be closed on July 9.

This happened to me last week, I was letting someone WHO HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY come across and some dirtbag behind me started honking at me to go.
Little did this jackass realize that on the other side of the bridge were TWO county cops who were next to cross.
Yeah, like I'm going to commit a driving infraction in front of THEM for this jack-off behind me.
Either way, the County needs to take down the signs and put up temporary STOP LIGHTS instead.
