This movie is hugely under-rated. It's biggest mistake was opening in the same year as Dark Knight and Iron Man, with fans thinking that's the only way a super-hero movie could be made. If this movie got released 5 years earlier? Much different reception.

The Spirit is a short, fun movie with awesome style and visuals. While it has very little in common with the comic, it stands on it's own.

Considering that the Spirit was created in the '40s and his origin was basically the same in the movie (minus the Octopus injecting him with magic shit) I don't think it could be at all considered a rip off of "The Crow". Although I will say that I understand where you can find similarities.

This isn't Eisner's Spirit. It's Millers. This shoud be animated.

It is Eisner's Spirit with a subtle mix of Frank Miller. The Octopus in Eisner's Spirit had no face, and only it's white gloves were shown, couldn't do that in the film, they'd compare it to Blofeld from the 007 films. 300 and Sin City wasn't animated. Eisner would've chosen Miller, his student to do the film, because Miller understands the Spirit. R.I.P. Eisner
