It was just not acceptable. Rock music was not acceptable by whites for a while. Now you seldom see blacks playing Rock, but they still do.

If you have any doubts, do the research yourself. Rock and Blues music is intensely rhythmic structure and they are far from classical music. Try finding some Blues, speed it up and note what it sounds like. I do produce music, and I researched this topic years ago. Check it out for yourself.
