  • I found it, sorry

  • For those wondering the text is attributed to Kurt Vonnegut in a commencement address to MIT. But the actual source is a 1 June 1997 column in the Chicago Tribune by Mary Schmich as per snopes. Don't know who the narration is by, sorry.

  • This is so amazing, I don't think I can get over it. Everyone needs to see this at least once..

  • Wow, you all must be pretty young. This was a pop hit when I was in high school, like 20 years ago.

  • my friend sent this to me... it was really something I could listen to in the morning like I did today. Great Advice. remember the sun screen lol

  • can we go back to before the millennium. I wish i could have lived in the 70s, people seemed to have so much more fun. Everyone is too consumed by technology its sad. The intelligence of mankind has increased...for some people...but there is no more creativity and FUN

  • I'm twelve and watched this over and over and this is honestly the best advice I have ever heard and I will listen to each part of it and follow it. If I end up with the life I expected I will share it with my kids. If not then I can share my mistakes with the world

  • @RandomAwesomePplTv the best advice i could give you, is just worry about being a kid man because you're gonna wish you were a kid again when you get older. and as long as you have two supportive parents while you're a kid, life won't get any easier than that.

  • @RandomAwesomePplTv good fa you

  • If only we get this advice faster!! Oh waittt I think you can on Opinionaided.

  • wow. i have an epiphany because of this. there should be more views for this video. it really opened my mind. it's just, WOW.

  • This makes me nostalgic. Getting older is scary. That stuff about not realizing the power of your youth is so true.

  • Kurt Vonnegut was a genius, indeed. RIP

  • @Jackytfforgothispass - Although I agree, Mr. Vonnegut was a genius, this is actually an essay titled "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young" written by Mary Schmich.

  • this was amazing and so true, think a little for every word said in this vid and ull be brighter by large margins, good job

  • i wish i can go back in time now

  • this video has really inspired me. :)

  • Wow this is simply powerful. Love it

  • Rest in peace, Kurt Vonnegut

  • Fitter, happier

  • Pretty cool

  • Simply wow.

  • Thank you....I will take this advice

  • Very nice, sunscreen!

  • is there a transcript to this?

  • @MrNishnasty Google "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the youth" it's the first link.

  • skaaaaag

  • Amazing.

  • i almost cried watching this. i never want to get old and will most definitely live by these morals. i do not want to die with regret. the part that gets me the most is to do something that scares you everyday. i always try and do something out of the ordinary, to make experiences and make memories. awesome video

  • thumbs up if you found this stumbling! this is awe worthy

  • @emmaaaha This was originally an essay titled "Adive, like youth, probably just wasted on the youth" and was written by Mary Schmich for her column in the Chicago Tribune. It was published in 1997. Baz Lurhman adapted it into this single in 1998.

  • sooo good.

  • For the people wondering, this is called "The Sunscreen Song" and is by a guy called Baz Lurhman. Truely is amazing and holds many pointers we could all do with listening to.

  • yeah man this vid made me want to tear up badly.. more vids like this please

  • Amazing. Three questions - firstly, who gave this speech? who created the video? and finally, what's the song?

  • Which song is this?

  • Amazing :) this needs to be spread. . . .such an inspiring video

  • I think we should take this advice...

  • Chills. :)

  • How could anyone "dislike" this?

  • I really liked this!!! :-)

  • Truly a work of art!

  • "Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it - advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal - wiping it off - painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than its worth."

  • Amazing

  • My AP English teacher dedicated this to the senior class of 2010!

    Awhh, I love this! :D

  • Best Advice video ive seen.

  • I haven't seen this attributed to Paul Krassner yet, so I'm going to run it up the flagpole and see who salutes.

  • This sums up life better than anything else I've ever seen, no matter the age.

  • Actually, scientists have since discovered that some sunscreen is bad for you. So, like everything else, be careful.

  • waw

  • I wish I would of saw this back in 2006. hehe

  • i forget just how much i love this video. i am following one advice fromt hsi video i do dance often :D

  • awesome video!!

  • Common Sense while out in the sun is what is needed, but if you want strong bones, a healthy immune system and you want to be happy, get out in the sun whenever you can.

  • Plants benefit from the sun because theyre cells are completely different from ours. The sun sends out UV radiation which can cause cancer and kill you. You can get 100% of your daily vitamin D from vitamins.

  • This is simply brilliant!

  • Wear Sunscreen or the Sunscreen Speech are the common names of an essay titled "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young" written by Mary Schmich and published in the Chicago Tribune as a column in 1997.

The most popular and well-known form of the essay is the successful music single released in 1999, credited to Baz Luhrmann.

  • So I'm pretty sure this is a speech by Charles Bukowski that he gave to a college... right?

  • nope..bukowski died in '94 and this was given in '99.

  • This is fantastic, and useful

  • baz luhrmann sunscreen

  • That was absolutely fabulous.

  • Anybody here have any clips they would like to recommend other than this one? This video is amazing on so many levels.

I've seen only a few that changed my perspective on the world but I would like to see more. As a matter of fact, it makes me want to go travel study abroad even more during college.

I would be forever grateful if I had a few more meaningful videos to watch like this or maybe not exactly like this but the same message about life overall.

    Thanks for your time,

    Cooper

  • @coopasan9

Maybe this won't work for you, but try listening to instrumental music...I make my own meaning for it, and it in turn puts meaning in my life.
