hey lets just remember this is phil laak, and even jesus(chris) uses 5% of his BR to BI a game, cept he leaves if it becomes 10% or more... just remember this is phil laak, a professional.
My standard is 40bi w/ 1 BI=100bb. I will take a shot at the next level if I have 30BI for that level. I will drop down to the next level if I lose 20BI. I agree for live play if you game select and are a good player you shouldn't really be losing more than 5 BI. If you are there is something wrong generally. But I do it because it helps me psychologically and I have no other money if I bust.
To be honest, 10BI's at Live poker is probably not that bad. I play $500NL and over about 700 hours sample, I've never lost more than 3 BIs on a downswing.
10% is a good rule for players that can exploit LIVE players well, and would have been even better 5 years ago. Chris Furgusons role strategy is better for most low-mid level players. At a 5/1 ST to MTT. Online spread your roll at 5% on cash or single SNG's, and thats spread amongst all your tables. Do not do this without poker tracker, stick to one like live if u dont track. In MTT's a 1% rule is the way to go regardless of level, unless of course u r brand new, then 1-3
You can do it on 10 BI if you work really hard at your game. I'm talking 60hrs a week minimum of playing and studying. I've been fine with the 10BI rule, although I admit its a little light, but if you bust your butt it doesnt seem that bad. Also this is for live and for starting/jumping games. IE...ok to lose your starting roll, just work to get another. Also ok to jump up to a higher game when you have 10BI for it saved but if you lose 50% of it jump back down and work it back up. Rinse repeat
I think u should adjust percentages... if u play small limits, u can play 100% of ur bankroll, cuz otherwise u don't learn the game, the stakes are too low for u to care ... like if u have 50$ for NL Hold'em, u play 100% of ur bankroll (if u bust, u rebuy)... U get to 500$, u play with 20%... at 1000$, u use 15%... at 2000$ u use max. 10%.... at 4000$ u stick to the 5%-rule, which is very solid. At 10.000$ u can use up to 4%... keep adjusting! I'm at 3.500$, started with 200$, using rules above.
I just had my worst day in poker, i lost 10 Buy In's in 1 session! And remenber this video thats why i came here to coment. Fortunly i use the 2% rule, not phil laak's 10%. I would be broke by now.
@jr543266 Let's make that clear...Y-O-U can lose 10 Bi's in a single session. People who know what they are doing would have walked away from the table a long time ago.
Did Phil Laak just tell me that if I have a bankroll of $100, that I should use 10% of that, which is 10$,...and then find a game where I have 10% of the bb, which would be the .50 - 1.00 table ?.....LOLOLOL
@myst93 No he's saying if you have a $100 bankroll you should sit down at a table with 10% of that ($10), and play a limit where the amount you sit down with is equal to 100X the big blind. So in your case you would want to play 5cent/10cent with $10 at the table. Also, these rules are for No limit games where pots can get very large relative to the money in front of you. For limit games you can play higher stakes with less money.
I don't think he's saying if you have 10,000 dollars to your name that you should play 1000 buy-in poker. Your bankroll (poker money) shouldn't be all the money you have in the world.

Sounds about right for live poker. There are no 10 cents tables live. A real man would play higher stakes with maybe 2 BI's total, then you really feel the action and excitement.
Those rules about having 50 BI's for online are only for people that keep losing and keep reloading. But it also minimizes your winnings. Most winning players play online and after playing all evening have won 5% of their total bankroll.
Live this would just be too boring, there you should take more risks.
@evexxxxx It's not 10 BIs, it's 10% BI. That means if you're losing, you *move down* limits. You don't keep buying in for the same fee. 10% is an aggressive strategy but it's not that aggressive.
