  • Do you know if it passed?

  • I LOVE your enthusiasm!!! I would like to let all of you know that there are alternatives out there on several products that do NOT contain toxins and chemicals that harm our bodies and are safe for our children! I would love to share a fabulous company with you. Send me an email if interested in learning more. shaleewhite@gmail.com

  • Totally right on about the wipes! I went through that with my daughter when she was a month or two old. Now we just use paper towels with warm water and a small amount of sensitive baby soap.

  • @taragirlable It's so sad that there are such harsh chemicals in baby wipes... things that touch our children's genetials 5 - 10 times a day... so sad !

  • this is definitely something i am going to look into!! thank you sooo much for sharing!!

  • @meggelz08 You are very welcome.

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!! I swear its like watching myself (only im not confident enough to do this and wish I were) on this! Everyone I preach it to thinks im crazy and say well it is what it is and that is just what it has always been. WRONG!!!! Anyways....love that I found you on here!

  • @bakerof5 Haha... And yeah some people really do think I am crazy but I don't care :)

  • Everything in this universe is a chemical. What are you taking about?

  • @MacHead31 I am talking about chemicals that are in products that our children use on a consistant basis... chemicals that are man made and not found in nature.

  • i lovehow passionate you are about these topics. i have a question tho, do you eat at fast food resraunts at all? example mcdonalds ad these types of chains? would you give your child these types of foods when he is old enough? are you fan of jamie oliver? i think you are just as passionate about these subjects as he is about food and stuff. just wondering :)

  • @emtabby We do at times. But we really try not too... I don't want to support those types of businesses... however when we travel, sometimes that is our only option.

  • Was just going to let you know that we have really sensitive skin issues here too, and we found products that are AWESOME to use!! Don't know if you've heard of it but its 'Jordan Essentials'... they are an ALL Natural products - VERY AWESOME!! You can go to their website and find them and see also what they put in their products.

  • @lshimmin73 Thank you so much for the tip. I will look into this !

  • Since Cding i have been more inclined to purchase all natural products :)) nice vid!

  • @aznfresh4 Me too !!! Thanks :)

  • Can you do a video of the products that you switched to, and what products you now use on your baby. Or maybe the wipes is the only thing you have changed ?

  • @danielle002599 If I get some time I totally can do that... we have made a few changes

  • check out the Costco Kirkland brand diaper wipes (i dont know if you have a costco near you or not) but these are really good too!

  • @CHR1ST1NEmichelle Thanky ou !

  • When you said the stuff in the video, i was like right on.

  • @MidwestBeautyxo Haha Thanks :)

  • Wonderful posting. I have been following you related to cloth diapering and was happy to see that you are helping to spread the word on this act - thanks. I read last year that the EPA - the very organisation that Americans rely on to keep them safe only has the resources to properly test about 2% of all the new chemicals and toxins that are out there. Doesn't make you feel all that safe any more. Of course this mess is somewhat uniquely American and it smells of big business - doesn't it?

  • @claireandramsey It makes me sad that our government doesn't use it's resources for the RIGHT things right? And yes it does smell of big business... I really wish our gorernment cared about it's citizens as much as it cares about the businesses here !

  • Just researched the sunscreen I bought and used on the kids for Makennah's birthday party on the EWG site. Holy crap, I feel like a total troll!! Been talking it over with the hubby. We are a fair skinned family that NEEDS good protection from the sun. We are going to have to buck up and do better with our sunscreen choices (at the very least)!!!

  • @hailiesue17 That is how I felt as well !

  • I'm so glad I finally found the time to get this watched!! I had no idea about all this sunscreen stuff! I'm ashamed to say that I go for the chemical packed products :( being healthy is SO expensive for both food and non-food products! It is WAY cheaper now days to go through the drive thru for some dollar menu burgers than to cook a healthy meal (we have made a BIG change in that area), but I cringe at the thought of spending $20 on a bottle of sun lotion that will be gone in a week :(

  • @hailiesue17 Being healthy is EXTREMELY expensive, which is ridiculous, it should totally be the other way around. I totally agree that it's hard !

  • Hey, I checked the sunblock my DH/step son use...guess what I found in the ingredient list?!?! Vitamin A! :O I told DH about what you found about Vit A in sunblocks. Thank you!

  • @NerdyCanadian You are so welcome... it's just appalling !

  • i'm really saddened by all these chejmicals inj baby products (and non baby products). it really sucks.

  • @LittleMrsMommy I totally agree !

  • My second son would get rashes so bad from all wipes his poor bottom would bleed I used cloth wipes with him and disposable diapers but now with my youngest we use cloth diapers and cloth wipes. Also diaper rash cream would make Parker my second son get open sores curious what is all in diaper rash cream too. Now when Jaxson gets diaper rash I use breastmilk it is the best diaper rash "cream" out there clears it up in a day.

  • @TheThriftyMommy Yeah Porter had that bleeding rash as well... not fun ! Wish I still had some breastmilk to use... however since switching wipes, we haven't had ANY problems !!

  • @lillylady05 Aww thank you!! I don't care if I have haters... if I am telling the truth then they are just idiots if they can't accept the truth :)

  • Totally weird you posted this. I usually use cloth wipes on my baby but decided for outings it would be easier to use the Huggies. Yesterday I took my son into the doctor for his 2 month baby check and had to use the wipes because DS took a big poop right after he was weighed. Within minutes of me cleaning him up with the Huggies wipes his booty was bright red. Never again. I'll stick to my cloth and water. Love your vids Jen. Keep'em coming :)

  • @bekoff713 Wow... that is insane ! Yeah stick to water and cloth... or try a more natural disposalbe for when you are out :) And thank you :)

  • I have to say , i totally agree with you Jen. I've discussed this with my friends, and their argument for the opposite is that "wipes and things with chemicals in them have been used for decades now, and the majority of people have gotten no serious problems from this". Well, to think of it this way, are we not seeing more cases of cancer and such nowadays than say, 40 - 50 years ago ?

  • @cilia88 Yeah I hate when people say, well they have been used for so long... but it takes awhile for those chemicals to start accumulating in our bodies and when we have chemicals in our bodies as adults and then we have a baby and pass our chemicals on to them the second they are born, it is jsut a vicious cycle... it does matter !

  • my poor baby boy is having the exact same problem with his diaper rash, and this time that it came back, its horrible! its the worst its ever been :( his entire butt on both cheecks r just huge scabs! and i could go on 4ever, but its bad. we were pretty much doing the same thing ur doing with porter, and after watching this video, i went to c what brand our whipes were... sure enough their huggies! so ill try out thoes whipes u talked about. thanx 4 the idea though, i didnt even think of that!

  • @AlaskanMommy907 Oh poor thing ! Yeah try changing the wipes... it might totally be the problem. There are two chemicals in them that are known to cause allergic skin reactions in some kids... I didn't think of this either... but once we switched his rash was gone, within 2 days even !!!

  • This subject is something that totally freaks me out. Especially for my soon to be here newborn. I was looking at the package of Huggies Sensitive Wipes and there were sooooooo many that I couldn't even figure out what they were! Not as close to nature as I'd hope.

  • @NaturallyThriftyMom Yeah if you can avoid Huggies wipes, you totally should !! Not close to nature at all !

  • I buy organic as much as I can! I look up the ingredients on every single thing I buy. I'm so over people saying it doesn't matter. Thanks for making this vid.

  • @rachiibuu Yaeh I am really starting to look more into ingredients now... espeically with how sensitive POrter is... and you are right... this DOES matter !

  • Great video, Jen! This issue is close to my heart as well and I'm always ranting about it! I'm allergic to laundry detergent and fabric softener! Most of the time I just use a bit of Dawn dish soap to wash my clothes. Or All or Purex Free & Clear detergents (even then, my skin is not exactly happy, just not itchy and rashy!) I also know a guy who is allergic to BLUE. yep. Blue.

  • @ItsTabbyMarie Oh wow... you poor thing !!!

  • thats why im scared to go on birth control but i dont want another baby for a longg time. i feel stuck becuz us women have to pay the price more so then men with putting shit into our bodies.

  • @imayummygirl Yeah I REFUSE to go back on hormonal birth control. We use condoms and we will do that until after baby number 2 and then I am getting my tubes tied... and yes it's sad that men don't have to make those decisions

  • so should we start buying sunscreen from europe? becuz i might start!!

  • @imayummygirl There are two good brands here you could try, California Baby (you can find it at Target) and ThinkBaby (which you can find on Amazon)

  • Thanks for posting this. It should make everyone think...and question...what they put on and in their bodies. What pisses me off is, they KNOW they are putting these harmful things in baby products. Maybe if these big money white collar mooks could catch a painful rash caused by chemicals, maybe they'd think twice.

You have to watch out for so-called organic food as well. I've heard that in a lot of cases of organic farming, the fertilizer used is actually MORE poisonous than non-organic.

  • @lilblondehooker Thank you ! I KNOW !!! It's so unethical what these companies are doing !! How do these people sleep at night? Yeah you are totally right... the government totally needs to make sure that if something says organic, that it acutally is right?

  • @InformationMommy Exactly.

  • My son was the same with Huggies wipes and theyre what the hospital he was boen in uses!!! We switched to Curash and they are fine for him.

My son also had THE WORST (im talking blisters- broken, seeping and even bleeding skin) from the jarred Heinz food from supermarkets!!! The second we started cooking him fresh food from scratch, it went away. I will NEVER use store bought baby food again.

  • @AussieMummySince07 Oh wow... that is just horrible !!! And yeah I am so so glad that I made all of Porter's baby food as well !

  • I love your videos because I rant about this stuff all the time and my mom(who has a 2 year old) really doesnt get as upset as I do. What wipes do you use? I like desposible on the go. And I hope you do some reserch on sun screen because I dont have time but I want to get some sun screen for the summer. :) thanks for your awsome videos!

  • @AdelMyBell Yeah my mom doesn't seem to get it either... she is under the mindset, well I did things this way for so many years and things are fine... when they aren't really fine at all... some people just like to be blind to reality I think. Basically if you want a good suncreen try California Baby (you can find it at Target) or ThinkBaby Sunscreen... both are great

  • I am just SOOOOO conflicted about it all b/c all the natural organic products are usually so expensive : (

  • @08jaydensmommy08 They are expensive and taht is really a problem... that is why our government clearly needs to step in here !

  • Jayden could never use regular Huggie or Pamper wipes either!! I think he could use the Huggies Sensitive ones and that was about it. And I might as well just forget all about the "cheapo brands". It's terrible!!

  • @08jaydensmommy08 It's really sad... and super appalling... and we wonder why more and more men are becoming infertile !

  • I'm seriously so thankful for you, Jen. I would have never known about this...simply because I have ZERO time to research anything....you're awesome and I have so much respect for you:)

  • @carlmil528 Awww thank you !!! I really just inform you all because I find these things important... and one person CAN make a difference. I feel that by information all of you that I am doing as mucha s I can to help fix the problem.

  • Great video! It's crazy how many things can be in the products we use on our baby. If you can, check out my Ecoland Review, I mention some of the stuff that is in conventional cotton. It can even cause cancer, as well as miscarriages! I had no idea, but I am so glad more people are becoming informed.

  • @cookiepartyy Thank you so much and I will try to check that out !!

  • also I have to applaud you for being open to learning new things...love that about you!

  • @frowniebrown86 Aww thanks Stephanie... I think as I have become a mom, I really have opened my mind to things I would have NEVER considered before. And honestly, I really think it has to do with the fact that I LOVE to learn. And I LOVE to educate. So if I can learn something that will benefit me and my family, I then just LOVE to share it with other people so hopefully it can help them too :)

  • i signed it!! great video!

  • @ljewkes YEAH !! Thank you !

  • so now I have to ask you...does this change your view on formula? (not making a judgement here, just wondering what you feel on that end of things!)

  • @frowniebrown86 and I should probably specify, that I mean in regards to your own children...not a blanket recommendation for what you think everybody should do, and not getting into the whole "I'm better because I breastfeed" debate crap. Just wondering how you feel about the ingredients in some of the things most commonly fed to babies. PS I just came back to comment again, and you're video started...Jack TOTALLY just mimicked you and said "hey youtube" I wIsh I had it on video!!!

  • @frowniebrown86 Well not really at all... because I was just watching a documentary (the one I posted on facebook) and they are talking about all of the chemicals that are in our bodies that we are then passing on to our babies through breastfeeding... so honestly, I bet you it totally doesn't make any difference because either we share our body's chemicals with our babies or they get them in formula... sucks either way... And too cute with Jack !!! I love it !!!

  • @InformationMommy oh really? I'll have to watch that! I can't imagine the concentration/kinds of chemicals would be the same in formula versus breastmilk, I mean because not only are you getting the chemicals from what the cow ingested, but also chemicals from the processing, but that's a totally valid point, that what mom puts in her body sure does matter! I can't argue too much anyway bc my research on formula ingredients isn't all that extensive. Theres also a documentary coming on that too!

  • I love this video! More people need to be aware of all crap we are putting into our bodies.

  • @1mitchypoo I totally agree !

  • My husband was telling me the other day that baby wash and shampoo is the same as car wash the only difference is how much it is diluted. That made me start thinking about what we were using

  • @25BecBec Yeah that sure does make you think !

  • Great video Jen, these ones are my favorites of yours! The public needs to be informed! :-)

  • @sheenashine17 Aww thanks... And yeah the public does need to know.

  • i couldn't agree more! I think the chemicals that are in products, food and other things may have to do with a lot of illness we as a society have including infertility!

  • @TheCandycoatedcenter Oh for sure they are affecting fertility... did you know that men living in rural areas that are exposed to pesticides have lower quality sperm that men that live in cities?

  • What kind of disposable wipes would you suggest? I use Huggies wipes! :/

  • @TheBrittbrat2341 We are currently using something called Elementals Naturals ( you can get them on diapers . com in bulk) otherwise Earth's Best are good and so are Seventh Generation. You can get Earth's Best at Babies R Us I know

  • Great video!

  • @mina247 Thanks

  • also there was a study doe on non stick cookware too... they are hoping to get rid of that by 2015 because it releases crazy toxins into the air that build up in our bodies ... it has killed many birds that people have that they keep in their kitchens

  • @JrdnLeigh yeah I have heard of that... I think there is actually legislation in place about that.

  • A while back was trying to keep the chemicals out of my son's food , and ran across this whole chemicals in everything stuff too... so we switched everything he used to more organic and chemical free products glad to see you doing a video .. you always do lots of research and come out with tons of great info .. i shouldn't be but i am always worried about people shooting me mean comments it makes me second guess my info and i always worry that i am misinforming people..

  • @JrdnLeigh Aww thank you !!! Don't second guess yourself... you aren't misinforming anyone. We are trying to change our lifestyle to be more healthy and to rid our bodies of all of these chemicals... and I am so glad other people are doing the same

  • I went for a second opinion because I started to not really agree with her former pediatrician's views, and in the process I switched which brand of disposable wipes I was using on her. I switched from WalMart's Parent's Choice unscented/sensitive wipes to Target's Up & Up unscented/sensitive brand, and the rash cleared up within a day. It really is sad and very disturbing that our babies and children are being exposed to these chemicals. Also, sorry for this taking up two comments...

  • In Canada, alot of sunscreens that are available in the US are not allowed here, they are much more strict here.

  • @nakmk Yeah most other countries have far better sunscreen than we have here

  • My daughter suffered from a really bad diaper rash for about 4 months non stop during her first year of life. Her former pediatrician and I at first thought it was a yeast infection, so I tried all different kinds of diaper rash creams and ointments prescribed to her to try to treat the rash. After a few months, it still hadn't gone away, and her former pediatrician tried to say to me that it was some kind of a viral infection that would have to be frozen off!

  • @bellyxbooger I am so glad you got a second opinion... that doctor must have been crazy !!! And yeah it is sad and no worries about taking up multiple comments, I do it all the time :)

  • just curious.. do u use perfumed wipes on ur personal area? Dont use anything else than WATER on ur childs personal areas, Water is the most natural and just as good for cleaning,Smelly things arent gona make u CLEANER than water, which is hydrante for example. WATER is even BETTER than all the crap out there, No one said to trust the market of baby things. In Europe we are told to make food from organic, even when pregnant, and we r told to think the natural way. :)

  • @chabella123 No I don't. And you are right, water is the most safe for sure. And yeah things in Europe are so different than in the US... and if my entire family didn't live in the US, I would probably highly consider moving to Europe beacuseI really think that in many countries I agree with their way of life far more than I agree witht he "American" way of life.

  • This is totally an issue we deal with here. I wonder how much it would help if we only used 100% organic and natural products from clothes to toys to sunscreen, etc. It's just so expensive! I was going to try switching to some of those things that we haven't already, but the formula we will have to put Samuel on costs $400-500 a month! It's ridiculous. So, the chemical free stuff is too expensive, and so is the treatment for the problems they cause! ARGG!

  • @laurettabear Oh I am sure you guys are dealing with this constantly with Samuel ! You guys are really in a bind and it's so incredibly sad that you guys are even in this sitaution in the first place...

  • I share your anger and frustration. companies have no ethics about what they put in their products. And the ironic thing is they claim to care about our children but they clearly only care about their profits.

  • @elisam34 No ethics at all... and that is sad !

  • My son came out in BURNS yes Burns round the tops of his thighs when he was a baby, it wouldn't go, and we thought it was nappy rash..I bought every nappy cream and do you know what caused it? HUGGIES ORGANIC NAPPIES! Organic? :/ Tell me what the wipes are please? I am using pampers atm! But now I am aware of the chemicals in the wipes! I would rather cut them out if they are full of chemicals. :(

  • @Pinketter I know the Organic means NOTHING !! We use Elementals Naturals (you can get them on diapers . com) but Earth's Best and Seventh Generation are also great.

  • Hey Jen, ever heard of Basic H? Its as green as you can get with 1000 different uses!!

  • @LoveNothinBetter Thank you for telling me about it... we may have to order some

  • OMG I freaking Love U for making this vid. iv been pissed about these same types of things for a couple years now. I think I may just have to make a video response to you tomorrow! Im so excited! :D

  • @DanielleBabyBliss Totally make one... I would love to see it.

  • Sooo agree!!

It's hard (and expensive) to do anything "right"

    "like" (-:

  • @CandidMommy I totally agree... it is hard !!! I am just trying to make the best deicsions I can make as often as I can make them...

  • Great video

  • @cassieconnell Thank you !

  • i HATE how much "stuff" is in our childrens and even our own products :( everywhere we can we buy safe items, sunscreen, milk, diapers, wipes, etc i wish we could afford to buy ONLY safe stuff....sucks that we have to choose!

  • @rmmartin92405 I know... it's soooo expensive and I think that it's applaing in American that we haven't have to make that choice... everything should be safe.

  • Yup, I agree with you and Jen!! It has been an issue of mine forever. I am not perfect at doing all these thing but I am trying!! Yup Huggies wipes not good!! Plus, the ingredient list is misleading... And, they do not have to say the process of how they make them... which is often worse than the ingredients. Earth's Best Wipes or Seventh Generation is good.

  • @alandamandamama Yeah it's hard to be "green" and safe all the time and expensive too... and of course we are not perfect... what is sad is that we have to consciously make these safe choices for our family... I think the government should just regulate things better so paren'ts wouldn't even have to worry about this. Thanks for the wipes tip

  • On the subject of safe level, I'm sure it's safe if that was the only chemical you were being exposed too. We are being bombarded by so many chemicals that they can react and this isn't taking into account. Thanks for the info on the sunscreen I wonder if Canada is as bad.

  • @shantrues That is a really good point ! I am sure that is not something people even think about !!! Good call !

  • Also, my family has had great success with just using cloth wipes and water on our children. It is also less expensive.

  • @meadowlarkphoto Thank you for the tip

  • I entirely agree that these chemicals need to stop!! My husband is a merchandiser at a Co-op and one of his dept. is health and beauty aids. I have learned so much about ingredients through his job. They try to bring in very natural products to the store which is awesome! It is amazing how many people don't think about what they are putting in their body or on their skin. And yes, many times it does take some sort of allergic reaction etc. to draw attention to this problem. Good video!

  • @meadowlarkphoto Thank you so much... and yeah this stuff does need to stop and our government needs to do something about it.

  • Thanks Jen, I truly appreciate your apology. I am very upset with what they put in these products we use on our precious little babies! I did end up taking that video down because so many people said they were "offended" but I am pretty sure they were just "offended" because they were using those products. Wish more people would realize what horrible chemicals are in these products. Thanks again for the apology.

  • @JenNTim509 Well I had to do it... Like I said, I wouldn't probably care nearly as much if Porter wasn't having such a problem with them... Huggies wipes !!!! Seriously !!! I still maintain that you can buy some of your products natural and some that aren't... but every single natural choice you make totally makes a difference. I don't really care if people are "offended" by my video because I am only stating fact :) And if you still have your video, I think you should put it back up !

  • @InformationMommy This is a fabulous video. Thank you. I had no idea about the sunscreen. So glad you shared this. I agree; I hope JenNTim509 puts her video back up. I would like to see it. This is very informative. Thank you!

  • @HeartMyKPop Youa re so welcome :)

  • I was told by my midwife not to use wipes on my baby, purely because they irritate their delicate skin, and can almost burn them! As a newborn, we were told to use large cotton wool balls and warm water. (I am in England). It is disgusting how many chemicals our children are exposed to x

  • @TheSparkleskiss It's so crazy how the things in England are so much different (better) than they are int he US... I wish our system would friggen get with the times and reserach !!

  • Great video. I did end up looking up what is in huggies wipes. You're right. I'm going to look into switching it up. :) Thanks for putting it out there.

  • @gisperelda Yeah I just couldn't believe it... shampoo is one thing, but wipes !!! Grrrr
