Johnny Cash the man and his music will live on. I was never able to see him in concert nonetheless I still to this day have LPs, 45 records I grew up playing in country music band at the age of 10. I've always been a JC fan. But I do not understand why we tend to deify this man and all his myths, simply because he was a drug addict who reformed & fell back several times; was faithful to June, then cheated on her; was a Christian but hatefully abused his friends and family.

I know at least a dozen people with exactly the same story and no one is writing books about them. They all repented & receded, like Johnny. I love his music, but let's face it; he was a weak SOB like the rest of us.

@BibleAuthority I've always been a JC fan, and I totally understand your comment. I've read the books by his son, his best friend Marshall Grant, and his own autobio, and am convinced he was indeed two people: JR Cash the selfless friend, and Johnny Cash, the total jerk (Marshall Grant's words).

His lifelong drug abuse, countless marital infidelities and treatment of others and their property did indeed make him a sinner.

But no worse than anyone else whose 'faith has made them whole'.

It is hard to put into words. So much I could say about how Cash has inspired my life. I suppose that most of all, his life, lived in front of us all, helps me to see that it is by God's grace alone. I, like him, am a work in progress and I screw up often. I thank him for his example to keep the faith, on to the end.
