Are you guys crazy? Peterman was great! He too once fell under the spell of opium. It was 1979. He was traveling the Yangtzee in search of a Mongolian horsehair vest. He had got to the market after sundown. All of the clothing traders had gone, but a different sort of trader still lurked about. "Just a taste" he said. That was all it took.
I loved Newman so much. I love the way ppl have yell at him to stop him from going "postal." Also, I love the way Jerry Stiller yells at ppl. I would not have thought yelling would be so funny. It makes me feel validated seeing someone else having a fit that if I had, I'd be escorted away with white coats.
@elKavernikola Yeah Newman was awesome, possibly the funniest character alongside George C. The fact he didn't feature much ensured us that every time we would see him, we would be left in absolute laughter, which is true.
Also, I thought Mr. Peterman was hilarious anyway. If I had one gripe about the show it would be that Mr. Kruger was not featured as much as I would have liked... now he was way funnier than Peterman IMO.
@jdprice455 They never explained it. but they see it's that Newman is jealous of Jerry, Jerry's wealthier, better looking...that type of thing...but who knows.... i just love the way Newman disses jerry, and from time to time gets the better of him.. like ratting on him making out during Schindler's list.
the character was so popular Wayne became the unofficial fifth cast member. at the end of each episode the credits would say "with Wayne knight as Newman" instead of "guest starring Wayne Knight as Newman".
i can't remember which episode it was, but once when newman appeared at jerry's door, the audience gave him a roaring ovation, and when jerry said the classic "helloooo newman" a female audience member yelled as if he was a rock star lol.
@mightycowhero hahahaha thats sound halarious im on the last series i look out for it i love whenever newman is in the episode or they mention him i always get excited lol
He also got a lot more air time and featured more in some plots towards the end. Great actor and absolutely nailed the Newman character. You could sense the riff between Jerry and Newman, great stuff.
Yes, really, 48 if you count the syndicated version of "The Revenge". In the original version of the episode, Larry David voiced the previously unseen Newman and Wayne Knight, after taking the role, redubbed his lines for the syndicated version.
these guys made seinfeld funny :D

The Newman character was great. He was just what the show needed, someone who could be Jerry's nemesis and occasionally get the better of him.
