A VPN is a virtual private network. If you create a VPN and your friend joins it, it will be as if you are in the same LAN (or local area network). Therefore, you can play with friends over the network even if the game only supports LAN multiplayer. This isn't mandatory to play online, it is only if you cannot connect to regular servers so you use a LAN server.
one of my friends did a server what had my name and he said he can make servers he just changed servers name and made new ones :S he said he has one program with what he can do servers so i it was about 1 year ago and now i wanna make y own server. but then when i connected in to his server then i havent got any hamachi :S?? he just made server where i could join with non installions :S can my friend come in my server without hamachi ?? thats my question. :D

Im not sure what the problem in your case is, but I would recommend you to disable firewall and check if they are typing the correct name.

what "server" are u talking about?
Server for a game?
if so then what game?
If u r talking about Counter-Strike 1.6 then u should get the dedicated server for it.
Some other games have built in servers.

ok. he probably made a dedicated server with hlds.exe.
With hamachi we can just make a server with "new game" and ppl in your hamachi can join.

Actaully you can make a dedicated server with HLDS that lets people on different networks join.
Make sure you set it to Internet not LAN.

that means something wrong with ur server,
alternative is to use hamachi the way im showing.
they will have to install hamachi and join ur VPN.
