  • DAMN! He moves flawlessly and that too with so much kime. This just implies one thing. Practice makes perfect. Train people train.

  • @shotokankjs

Best comment on youtube if you ask me !

  • very good demo, solid karate

  • Use shoto uke to block the way used here. Does it work, really? Really implies is it safe to the hand, reliable in combat and trained under combative reality.

  • @IEKUKATAKA

Whats your point, are you saying the way Kagawa sensei does shuto uke is incorrect?

  • @chevytruckjoe I will go further than that, the whole Shotokan system the JKA perpetuated, Kagawa is JKA trained, is a bunch of deluded, uneducated crap. I trained with them in Japan, was certified to teach and am a life member. Saw too many contradictions and did a 20 year study of Okinawan karate. The JKA is a sport. Take the side of your hand, just as they do, and slam it into an arm, just as they do, and see what happens. Okinawans use the same technique differently and it works just fine.

  • @IEKUKATAKA How long did you train in a JKA derived system? Show or post a video of what you currently train in if you don't mind. so I can see what is superior. As far as Morio Higaonna goes he rocks! I respect his karate just as much as I respect many top shotokan masters. As far as a JKA derived system being a " bunch of deluded, uneducated crap" your words not mine, I would say I have had to use my "shotokan based" karate twice to defend my life in recent history and it worked superbly!

  • @chevytruckjoe My first teacher was a friend of Funakoshi and had a dojo under him for ten years prior to the JKA. I trained with him as a Marine and was under the JKA umbrella for about 25 years, Nishiyama being my last teacher of that system. Video? Not going to happen, no camera, no knowledge of video editing, no inclination. Morio Higaonna, take it to the bank, leave the JKA crap alone. Defending yourself with Shotokan, typical response, Mike Tyson could do the same, he knew no karate. see 2

  • @chevytruckjoe #2 Any street fighter can do likewise. The issue is, "is JKA Shotokan karate and is it a martial art?" It is not like what I trained with in Japan, it is not like what has been uncovered in Funakoshi's remaining, non-JKA students still living, it does not meet the original karate syllabus, in fact far short, and it does not come close to a comprehensive unarmed martial art, which Okinawan karate meets perfectly and exactly why I left the JKA. You are 30, I am 66... see 3

  • @chevytruckjoe 3 and still train, you think I say that for kicks? I put a huge effort in that nonsense only to, fortunately, learn better. Truth? Would you argue about the sun rising in the east? That fact is the same as my "opinion" of the JKA. It is an opinion and it is a fact, all you have to do is have the fortitude to face the truth and study history. Asai? He was an eccentric and missed a great chance to be a true karate-ka. Instead, he stayed with the Japanese corrupted version.

  • @IEKUKATAKA Tell me how you really feel! :) While I agree with you in some part, I also disagree in some point. I will definitely get back to you later,(work, teaching duties) interesting conversation!

  • @chevytruckjoe I do say what I feel and many can not stand it because I reveal a truth they either don't like or don't want others to know. A lot of people disagree with me, but,.......................... a lie believed by millions is still a lie. I had to swallow hard, face the truth that emerged and forged on. It did not set well initially and, in fact hurt. However, I could NOT be happier about the result. Ijo!

  • @chevytruckjoe I will leave you with one thing to ponder: I studied in Japan with a JKA founder, became certified to teach, trained with names most would drool to train with and, after some 25 years or so, turned away. Why would I do that if I were not convinced? My answer: I learned what karate really is, who developed it, why they did so, how it is taught and how it is executed. The JKA, a world name many revere, can not hold a candle to true karate. You believe what you like.

  • @IEKUKATAKA I occasionally cross train with some Goju-Ryu fellas and other then the hojo undo, I didn't notice a whole lot of difference then the way I train. But, I train a little more serious then most karate-ka I know on that note. It could also be the lack of competent Goju sensei up here in Alaska too. I also have a marine who used to train in Okinawa, who trains with me now and loves it. Honestly after a certain time training I kinda figured there is no style only Karate and karate-ka.

  • @chevytruckjoe "Honestly after a certain time training I kinda figured there is no style only Karate and karate-ka." This statement is the key and is true when karate is approached as a combat art. Once that focus is adopted, the essence of karate can be attained. Until that approach is adopted, useless techniques and tactics become a part of the syllabus and that is exactly where the JKA is.

  • @IEKUKATAKA What is your opinion of Asai senseis karate? Remember it's not the style but the individual my friend.

  • @chevytruckjoe No need in sending me any rebuttle, I spent far too long involved in the JKA, I know from first hand experience. Now, if you really want to know the truth about it, I can help you. If not, take care.

  • @IEKUKATAKA One mans experience is not everyones, and one mans "truth", (I would say "opinion" here) is not every mans "truth".
