There's no recipe for songwriting. John just takes his time, and writes from his heart, that's the only recipe.

Having such a thing as a songwriting college doesn't make sense to me either.

I agree on a certain level; the thing is is that most people aren't aware that john mayer and all the other great songwriters utilize both ends--the completely pure just making shit up and slapping it together side as well as the ideas of popular song STRUCTURE. That's kind of why there are songwriting classes, to demystify what makes a good song good. I know it helped me a lot, knowing the structure of a song, it made writing everything so much less complicated and free flowing
