  • Chi Sao is used in trapping range. Its not a drill. People who say its a drill are using it as an excuse to cover up why others say Wing Chun suck. Here's a breakdown of most (not all) Wing Chun lineage or whats left of it. Kicking range - average, Punching range - below average, Trapping range - Excellent, Clinch/grappling range- below average. Wing Chun will work if you know how to close the gap and keep it within trapping range...which is your chi sao. With the lack of sparring...nope.

  • Sifu Grados shows Very Nice Control , Striking control , and Responsible Consideration for the student . This is the way it should be done . Good Show ,and Best Wishes !

  • See the thing about modern kung fu training. These moves are meant for a purpose, but people lose site of the purpose. That is why if you put an MMA fighter against these guys, they could lose. You need to develop the power of those strikes, when u tap someones neck its not going to stop anyone. Unless u train for power. and accuracy in real combat. That is where modern kung fu lacks, as opposed to the original kung fu.

  • @Guinea54 There are a couple of things wrong with your analysis. First, this isn't even kung fu. You also have to realize a Sifu isn't going to go full power on one of his students. This extends to both the practice of chi sao and demonstrations. These type of exercises are designed so that when the time comes, the power is there.

  • @stbarker86 these trapping techniques are meant to develop skills that are almost above human reflexes. Not everyone can use this in real situations, it takes a special kind of person who has developed above human reflexes. Most people no matter what gung fu training go into the typical brawl mode and dont even use the wing chun. and thats not because wing chun is bad, its just something that not too many people can really master with todays training
