I have Long #1 as well. Finished second in the Heisman to one of the 20th centuries greatest athletes in Bo Jackson. 10,000+ Career yards, 74 TDs, 35-13-1 career record. Played in five bowl games. Last QB to lead us to a number 1 ranking. Last QB we had that sw NFL playing time.
Banks brought a dimension we hadn't seen, the dual threat, but he had a LOT of talented receivers in Dallas Clark, Mo Brown, Ed Hinkel, and others.
Nobody gets off the canvas quicker than Stanzi though.
@mongoose704 #2 believe it or not is Matt Rogers. 18-5-1 in his last two years and was a master at engineering game winning drives. He had a terribly rough start to his career and was booed out of Kinnick a couple times in 1989. Matt had poise, could run an offense, and could scramble fairly effectively.
@mongoose704 Last QB we had that sw NFL playing time...Actually that's not true. Mark Vlasic bounced around the NFL for a few years. Neither really had what you would call real success in the NFL but Vlasic did last one year longer than Long.
Long was the most intelligent Iowa QB. He had big-time football smarts. If Stanzi can clean up the turnover problem he could go down as Iowa's most successfull QB ever. Could put him in the running as one of, if not, the best ever.
i met him and we played catch it was awesome and i have his autograph
