  • Flying back then was CLASS!!!!! Unlike today... people dress like crap... miss those times

  • Flight in 1950's have amazing meals, not like today we're served by shitty food.... ~_~

  • and now the complete shit, people are treat worse than sardines.

  • travel isnt what it used to be

  • The overhead passenger controls, look different in this clip, then they looked in later 707s

  • The overhead passenger controls, look different in this clip, then they looked in later 707s

  • Funny they already had mood lighting back then. Many new commercial aircraft are promoting the 'new' mood lighting while it's actually frickin' old.

  • Luxury liners of the skies!

  • wow!!, was that lobster!!!!!, coke 5 bucks, peanuts 5 bucks, baggage fee 25 bucks, carry on 15 bucks, ticket from NY to LA around 500 bucks plis hidden fees, so you end up payin almost 1000 bucks for what in those years the fee was 500 with everytihn included, ohh and who can forget the 9-11 fee, hilarious...

  • brazil too had a great airline company like pan an , she was VARIG , is sad that varig is failed now

  • I loved the 707, planes have just gone downhill ever since except in first class.

  • CAPT do not set in the right seat

  • :o

Saw the number one JT3D engine puff a bit of smoke out the back at 2:42

    lol

    I love the 707 <3

  • @NikolaiMTA No Lie I was in the tower at Detroit Metro 40 some years ago and I heard a controler say to a lazy 707 "Are you going to show me some smoke or what" the pilot mumbled something shoved the gas in and that thing smoked for as far as the eye could see! Funny as heck everytime I see one and the smokes belching out the back.

  • I enjoyed this 1958 PAN AM video. Long before the days of politically correct nonsense when Stewardess, or Steward was the accepted term. To all those P.C. punks who want to rename everything, I say stick it in your ear!

  • No vibration, noise, or sensation of movement? Why do I doubt that? You don't even get that with modern airliners.

  • Everybody looks so happy but it's fake because they persuading to people to come on that plane 707 that's all.

  • If only air travel today bore any resemblance to this. Today's passengers are not nearly as well-bred as in years past. Neither are the airline staff, mostly.

  • @bg11215 excuse me! but i am a steward with over 26 years under my wings. i find it insulting that i am not well bred. first that is for used for animals. which behave better than most passengers. you get what you give. the flying public wants to be treated with respect, and as if they were posh. however, they want to pay wal-mart prices. i miss the old days of classy travelers!

  • Slater was right.

    It's all gone.

  • Damn. Back then, they knew how to fly with style. Compaired to now...

  • yes. look at those meals! it cost more to fly back then, that's why there were all the amenities. today people want nordstrom quality/service at wal-mart prices! as a flight attendant i wish it was the way it was. i enjoy having passengers who dress well, and have respect for me, as opposed to the flip-flop, cut-offs, wife beater, nail clipping, nose picking trash that flys today!

  • Back to civilized world with educated people , nicely dressed ,a touch of class , so far away than today ' s monkeys .

  • Lol, hardly any sound, in those days maybe, but those crates are noisy by todays standards. It was also practically impossible to hear the captain in the cabin.

  • THEY ARE ALL WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They all look so happy and well fed. I want that. It is so dreary back in coach on South-West Air, shackled to the floor, having to row to the beat of the stewardess's drum, fed meagre peanuts and beaten when I complain.

  • Look like old Soviet reclame of Aeroflot)))) LOL)

  • everybody is soo happy how fake.

  • @tony711978 You apparently never flew in First Class on Pan American on the 707, when flying was actually fun, and the food was great. That was a long time ago.

  • Well, not exactly microwave ovens... if you can't use a cell phone imagine what a microwave would do :-) They use convection ovens. Great clip - I vaguely recall when flying was pleasant :-)

  • It's funny how the early ads for jetliners implied that there was no turbulence at jet cruising altitudes. You see it over and over again in ads from the late fifties.

  • "where dishes can be cooked in 5min. ovens." aka microwaves, lol.

  • Pan Am was the greatest airline ever.

  • they use to give out little packs of cigarettes too, with about 5 in each...

  • Flying is not what it used to be. Miss Pan American!

  • REALLY GOOD OLD DAYS !!! . Pan Am was the best american airline then .

Best latin american : Aerolineas Argentinas ( had a awesome service , now is trash )

Best european : Swiss and Alitalia !

  • i flu from istanbul to nyc turkish airline back in 1997 w/last smoking section flyt..only 3 seat at back u can smoke..

  • and the overhead bins!!! nothing strapped in...

  • Wow! Look at those meal portions! Today we're lucky if we get a bag of pretzels at no charge.

  • @Jeteaime65 that's because people actually paid to fly back then. crude oil , which is what jet fuelcosts are based on, was about $10.00 a barrel. today it's about $85.00. you want nordstrom quality and service for a walmart price! back then people were civilized and had manners. not like today flying public of flipflop, wife beater, tubetop wearing, farting, nose picking, nail clipping, white trash who insists on bringing everything from their trailor park as carry-on!

  • @justjack78 Sadly, today air travel is nothing more than a 'Greyhound' with wings.

  • @Jeteaime65 Yes and only the wealthy had enough money to fly back then now it is so much cheaper to do the flights

  • @Jeteaime65 flying is not as enjoyable today. The airlines feel its their job just to get you from point A to point B

  • THAT is flying. Not only could you smoke, but the flight attendants would light up for you....with wooden matches!!

  • "No vibration".."hardly any sound"...hahahahahahahaha

Ha errm..But those were the days flying over the atlantic without flight entertainment etc what we have today.

But it was still sort of romantic flying in a 707

  • check out the smokers! and where is london airport?

  • London airport is known today as Heathrow

  • thanks alot...

  • I wasn't around to fly PAN AM, but why did PAN AM went in to bankruptcy? Please reply.

  • Lockerbie, plus the economic recession.

  • Oh my God!, this video was like reviving my youth years. I gew up in Pan Am's boeings 707, due to the fact that my father worked with a hotel company and we have to travel a lot. Pan Am 707 were an important part of my childhood years... Thank you for this video.

  • And how about the attire of everyone? No ripped jeans and flip flops here! Semi-formal wear for everyone, and decent food and spirits rather than a pint size bag of nuts and no drinks! Sigh....

  • With all of our electronic/technical advancements the quality of life has gone significantly down hill. And do I perceive a cabin filled with human beings, instead of grovelling insane maniacs?

  • Magnificent airplane, and it really was fun to fly back then, but...."no feeling of movement" is a bit of an exaggeration.

  • WOW!!!!!! I wish somebody invented a TIME MACHINE, I'd rather live all those golden years than "boring today"

    Cheers from Brazil!!!

  • I'm 50, so I caught the tail end of it. People had their problems in those days, but life was better.

  • IS that a first class lounge?? The planes of the early jet age days, smoking on a flight, a plane not cramed full of seats, and top the tanks full of fuel and take off with no regards to fuel economy!

  • relaxing with a cigarette on a flight...the good old days...lol

  • I like the atmosphere of an airliner cabin in those days. People were so civilized...

  • Nice to know people were so civilized... But what do you mean there was no sound? Obviously they would have been loud.

  • compared to the piston engined propeller planes the jets were very silent
