AFRTS didn't want ANY mention of sponsors or products in their kinescopes of "stateside" TV shows, 'AC', so they either snipped them out and/or "filtered" the soundtrack (as they did here). When repeats of these shows aired on public TV stations, the sponsor I.D.s and cigarette commercials- even though they might be presented for "historic purposes" only- HAD to be eliminated because of the ban on showing such commercials on TV since January 1971.

This episode originally aired live on January 26, 1958- but this kinescope [apparently an Armed Forces TV print] is missing the original Lucky Strike sponsor I.D.'s and commercials; even Jack's usual opening greeting, "...and welcome to 'The Lucky Strike Program'", has two crucial words silenced at :30. Interesting to hear Dennis Day's "contemporary" rendition of "The Twelfth Of Never"- he usually sang a current "hit" number during his "song spot" on the radio and TV shows, but this was 1958...

this was how it aired on PBS...minus all of the commercials...the censoring of Jack referencing his sponsor even though long-time fans will obviously read how his lips mouth "lucky strike" is a blatant example of censorship of the notorious kind. it's one thing to want to cut out the commercials, but for them to edit the reference to Lucky Strike from Jack's standard opening greeting was kind of extreme.
